I don't think cric journalist might grasp the impact of Dhoni, because they probably seen greats before Dhoni and greats after Dhoni....but the impact he has had on the general public is insane... Before Dhoni, when the first couple of wickets of India fell, people would turn off their TV. when Sachin got out the match was over for most people. But after the arrival of Dhoni, it doesn't matter how much of a shitty situation the team might be in but people believed as long as Dhoni is there it will be alright. People believed in him not because of his last over heroics or his finishes but because there were many matches were India would lose 4 or 5 wickets for 30 or 40 runs, Dhoni would walk in and just put up a brilliant partnership with bowlers and tailenders to take the team to a respectable score, those are the matches that made people believe in him because when everything goes wrong there will be Dhoni to save your face... I have a story that might explain the impact Dhoni had on people. I have a cousin who hates Dhoni, he absolutely despises Dhoni and he never says anything nice about him. There was a csk match and the team had lost most of the batsmen and Dhoni was at the crease and the required run rate was somewhere around 13 or so...I was watching the game all tensed up, now my cousin comes in and asked what's the match situation and I said " required run rate is too high and csk has lost a lot of wickets and it looks like they may not win " and my cousin asked "who is batting" and I replied "Dhoni" and my cousin without skipping a beat said "well as long as Dhoni is there, your team will win" and he walked out. That is day I realised the kind of impact Dhoni had on people, even his haters believed in him...
First of all, great work! You starting this have given us something to look forward to in this not so good times. Reading and now listening to you is a treat for cricket lovers plus the added excitement of Monga's insights on MS makes this thoroughly enjoyable. Now on MS. Remarkable that out of all the cricket journalists only Monga,(and one Marc Nicholas maybe) has ever got access to MS' mind in a private setting. And as a result we only have few anecdotes of him that keeps on getting repeated. I think that speaks about how MS the person is, as Monga said, not comfortable with all the attention. But the wonder is that he consistently performed without letting pressure get to him at all. This is what makes up the legend of MSD. Pragmatism is indeed the anchor of his personality and knowing few people like him myself, I can understand why his convictions seldom changed despite whatever transpired as the end result, and maybe due to this he even came as a defeatist at times, especially during foreign test match tours. But the same pragmatism helped him to break down and simplify all his decisions leading to innumerable successful outcomes amid high pressure situations (where many of the sane have perished) that led many in India referring to him as a 'lucky captain'. With the recent global tournament results not getting India's way, someone needs to take a leaf out of MS' book I think. Also, please elaborate the circumstances around the Sam Collins reference. Would love to know the details. PS- For the gossip gang, when Monga doesn't takes names he talks about Zaheer and Yuvi when they went to France maybe hiring a trainer. Zak played one test series in NZ or South Africa after that. Will be waiting for more from you. Also #BringMongaonTwitter !!
I would really want to hear a further deepdown of MSDs techniques as a keeper, he was unorthodox but also his captaincy was very different from all we saw before. Gangully was an aggressive captain so is Virat now after him, Dhoni was just very pleasant sat back relaxed perhaps a good change but maybe his strenght to captain spin just didnt allow him to captain pace equally well. not sure if m making much sense here but just got lots of things on the curious case of MSD.
He is very reserved person from childhood He is like - If u know me , why I need to clarify u... If u don't know me and u r talking shit about me, then I don't need to talk to you
25:12 I can't remember the last time I was worried about Indian batting choking. But as a RCB fan, I do get that feeling every time RCB is in a good position during a chase.
Lmao at calling the ethnic groups in the state "indigenous" , tribal or specific ethnic name would be better, thousands of years and complex populations flows (many of the Munda speaking tribal groups assumed to be the first in the subcontinent have recently been found to have arrived later) means you can't apply simple colonial country terms..
Dhoni was somewhat negative and dismissive of others, that could be because of early negativity in struggling days but anyway it may have actually helped him.
Guy doesn't give enough credit to ms. The questions about new gen journalists and new gen cricket happened after dhoni came to the team, the petty politics getting stopped, was he instrumental in people change the way they look at the team, with "the team did" was pretty evident.
I think he gives plenty to MS. But generational change doesn't come from one person, that's the saviour complex. Dhoni came from that new generation as much as anyone, there was going to be a change, he just became part of it, and the face.
A refreshingly honest take on MS Dhoni without treating him like a demagogue!

Cool Fun Fact:
Dhoni was ICC's no1 ranked batsmen for 706 days compared to Tendulkar's 384 days
A sad fact:
Tabraiz shamsi is the no 1 ranked T20 bowler. 😀
Shamsi lasts for 1 month
@@Hellhagen he actually is a good bowler

AIT is entrenched into the Indian mind. Will take atleast 3 generations of good education to erase it off.
20:16 This is so true.
23:00 “CSK was born to embarrass the IPL”, and then they went on to win two trophies in three seasons .😂
Dhoni was somewhat negative and dismissive of others, that could be because of early negativity in struggling days but anyway it may have actually helped him.

Treasure trove!
😊
2006 dhoni was not famous ? Which world we are in ?
It's all about process, which process? I won't tell you.
Welcome to every sports press conference
Question for Mr. Monga: so the rest of us Indians in India are what, NON indigenous?
why are there such horrible and stupid comments under a well-made podcast?
because this is youtube
Oh my god, this is disgrace to cricket , Dhoni and CSK.
What stupid comments about Dhoni's batting in test , T20 . That too from ppl worked for ci , my god , can't belive these comments.
We've only studied him ball by ball over the last ten years, I'm sure you're a far bigger expert tho.
