    What is truly fascinating about Rajasthan is how they're devoted to bring through a regular pipeline of young Indian uncapped players and PROPERLY backing them all season despite all the yapping that goes on around how a particular team is going to win the IPL that season. That's all people care about. How pathetic. Yes it is a tournament that teems with more money each year, but they're probably the ONLY franchise to retain the integrity to be faithful to what the IPL really signifies. Young, raw Indian talent integrating with the pros. In that order of priority. Well done Manoj. Cheers Jarrod.

      Same with KKR also...right after U-19 2018 world cup they bought Gill, Nagarkoti and Mavi. Persisted with them even after repeated underwhelming performances and injuries. MI gets the recognition because the youngsters they back produce match winning batting/bowling spells on more regular basis.

    This is probably the best interview when it comes to the business behind franchise cricket. I love how they are trying to be innovative ( basically playing catch-up).
    Would always wonder why aren't there Software Engineer/Data Scientist positions open for Cricket teams because the problem is soooo complex - it almost brings a smile thinking about various ways to solve it.

    Listened to this episode on the pod a couple of days back, and loved it. Pretty interesting and now I know a little bit about how franchises function.

    Great podcast Jarrod.
    And thank you Mr.Manoj for dropping so many hints to us cricket fans about what's going to happen in the game. He talked about how more teams will be added and a new format might be introduced. This all will result in more games. Also, he was talking about bug changes in IPL and I think he meant to say that apart from the addition of teams, things like slot for foreign players might change also.
    He also talked about a league which could give competition to IPL, I don't think he was referring Major League Cricket in US or about any new league , he was probably talking about BCCI allowing Indian players to play in foreign legue like BBL and TheHundred, now India has at least 30-40 players who could play int'l matches thanks to IPL and our 'A' team program run by Rahul Dravid, this means that Indian players could be allowed to play in foreign leagues without India losing much quality in it's Playing XI.
    Well, this is quality content and that's what we expect from Jarrod👍👍.

    Why is "owning a franchise as a business decision", not a cricket one or results or love of the game, framed as a good thing?

    • @JarrodKimberYT
      @JarrodKimberYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh, where do I start. People who own cricket teams as fans don't take the the team seriously. They treat their decisions like you would at a local club, they play with people's careers, they pick [players based on who they want to have a photo with on instagram or how famous the player is. Instead of finding the best coaches they pick an ex player and hope it works. They don't grow the franchise to new markets, or innovate.

    • @saoirsedeltufo7436
      @saoirsedeltufo7436 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JarrodKimberYT There are some fair points there, but picking players based off fame is more often a corporate decision because they want to sell shirts or pictures or get fans in. I think you misinterpreted my point, I don't mean just someone with money who's a big fan, I mean people who love cricket and care about results, as opposed to people who just want the team as a money making exercise
      As for 'innovate' I'd say that's pretty entertaining a claim for corporate management who often regress the game as long as they can profit, and in fact stifle innovation. 'Innovation' without love of the game gives us stuff like the Hundred...
      And finally, corporate culture in cricket is what has suppressed the women's game for so long - it reminds me of what you said in your podcast about women's Tests. Women's cricket has been pushed back by corporate interests, and only progressed by people who love the game and the class cricket on display

    Baffled that he doesn't appear to be aware that his team plays in the "Pink City" - which is a lot stronger rationale for associating RR with pink :) :) :)
