My name is Rajeev Iyer. I completed my MBBS from Bangalore Medical College, India, and my Anesthesia from PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. I have worked as a Consultant in India. I went to the University of Toronto in Canada, and I completed fellowships there. I finished the first part of the Medical Council of Canada Examination and became a Permanent Resident in Canada. Then I moved to the USA on an H1B Visa. I got a Green Card via EB-1 and now am a US Citizen. I am Anesthesiology & Pediatric Anesthesiology certified in the USA.

Thanks. You need ECFMG Certification to apply as a clinical fellow. This is step 1+ step 2.
I suggest you are better off also completing USMLE step 3 soon since this will help you get a H1B visa & this is also required to work as a consultant/attending physician.

I am looking to apply for a fellowship in the USA. I just want to confirm on something that you mentioned, you said that as an IMG one can not apply through the match process is that correct?
Well as an IMG you dont have to apply through match for anesthesiology (for some may be) which means this will work in your favor.

Research fellowship does not require ECFMG but clinical fellowship does

ObGyn is extremely competitive. There is nothing to stop you from applying if you are eligible. The question is can you get the fellowship? It is extremely important to come up with a strong application to position yourself in a good spot.

What is your goal after fellowship? Do you have USMLE? If you are so experienced, you are better off exploring if you could get directly a limited consultant position in any of the hospitals.
