Thanks for the useful information. What about the expiration date of newly issued ECFMG certificates? Could that be a problem to fulfill the criteria of state licensure processes?
Thanks a lot man for the great info, just a quick question, when I do fellowship do i get paid or not? And how much approximately?

Dr Asad , thanks for this informative session, would you mention which are non competitive fellowships and how to be able to fit for that when you have residency and clinical experience in another speciality as IMG
Great information
Very nice information dear
Superb video…
Amazing video
Great video, is there an advantage for those who did the residency in an ACGME accredited program like Hamad hospital ??
Yes
Hey man excellent video! May I ask if there’s an advantage for those who did Canadian residency over residency in another country such as home country or UK for eg? Thank you 🙏
Canadian residency is probably better as it is closer to the US system
Non-ACGME accredited fellowships have the same effect or strength compared to an ACGME program??
Thank you for this great informative video. I have a question though. What if you start your residency somewhere else and then decide to continue your medical career in the US without finishing that residency? Would your one or two years of residency help you match to your desired program? of course along with all other requirements. For example if you already started ENT residency outside the US but then two years later moved to the US and finished USMLE and did some US clinical experience, would your two years of residency in ENT help you match into an ENT residency in the US?

Thank you so much for putting all this information together! Question: doing fellowship prior to residency- would it sum up to the same level? I.e. Repr endo + then Ob&Gyn residency =IVF speciality?
Yes if it's a gme certified fellowship which you can only obtain if you had already done residency in your home country..

I have a question; there's some sources that suggest or claim that you can match into research fellowship as IMG specialist, without being ECFMG certified. Is that true?

Can you forward any link or source that has the details on the number of years of fellowship required by the each US state?

Very informative Do the fellowships need to be acgme accredited?
Some states require that for the license while others don't
@@MalkeAsaad Fellowship is not a requirment for license, 1-2 years of "acccredited traing " is. Each state has its own reqiurments.
You could get details of the requirments from the web sites of the Secretary of State of the respective states. Once you have a license in one state, you could get it in another state by receprocity (need to apply, payfee etc.) provided you meet that state's requirments. Some states requie aditional training as well (medical-legal, narcotics etc to my knoledge)
Fellowships and residencies are two different animals..
@@Betelgeuse732 thank you for this addition Rad. May I ask you if one can get into private practice with the licence only? I mean fellowship without residency and board certification. Thank you in advance
@@allaboutlife3709 Short answe is YES (office based practice) if you have an unrestricted licence.
You wont be able to get admitting previlleges in a hospital without TRUE board eligibility (First five yrs after residency) or board certification/ MOC as required.
Most insurances won't include you in their panel, and you will have trouble getting mal-practice coverage.
Even if you get coverage, God forbid that if you get sued; the pliintif's attornry will bave a field day and don't expect the jury will be sympathetic to you at all.
You will end up in some remote places with Medicare (federal) and medicaid (State) patients (very poor reimbursement for medicaid, medicare is a little better) , un-insured patients or in an Indian Reservation!
If your licence is provisional/ institutional (ie. restricted) you are limitedwithin the scope of those restrictions, (specefic institution , under supervision etc) and won't be allowed private practice.
The Secretary of State in each state will have details for licence requirments, restrictions etc on their web sites.

Can one apply for fellowship if one has complete his or her residency in not home country, but some other country?
yes
Either way it comes down to having a fellowship. Which means I’ll spend just as much time as an American, doing residency first, just not in the US. which means …… this advice is meant mainly for elder physicians.
Also for competitive specialties like Neurosurgery. Matching into NSGY might take 3-4 years which is the time to finish 3-4 fellowships and get a job for someone who completed residency outside the U.S.

What if you gewt your MD overseas but then do residency in the U.S. Is that an option? Would the government issue an F-1 for that?
Yes. That’s what most people do. They issue F-1 or work visa for it.
Can we do residency in US for fresh graduates from Australian medical school? Thanks.
Would like to know that as well
No state in the US will let you get the license to practice in its state without having residency. 2nd no employer will offer you a job also. If I'm the hiring hospital- why would I hire a person with a foreign degree without residency when I'm getting thousands of applications with MD + residency?
There are many already in USA without residency. I know a few personally. I know these people moved to USA in 2013. So i completely disagree with you
Yeah hope the Graet USA tightens regulations and closes any loopholes
@@travelcamz Of cource, they will be working as Uber drivers(need a driver lisence), at Mc Donalds or may be as hospital attendents. Very few lucky ones may even be working as sugical tech, coding reviewers, or in Dr's office as NON-CLINICAL employee. I also know a few who are working at a "community Hospital" as "chart reviewers" for insurance coding (creative coding to up code) and one poor soul who is an Operating room tech : they can't even work as "physian assistants. PAs will need to pass their exam and be liscensed. Otherwise, long prison times, fines and deportation for you and heavy fines and prison time for those who employ you wil be the result (if you get caught).

A US surgical subspecialist.
@@Betelgeuse732 are u joking?
@@travelcamz No, it is the reality. Without a US lisence , you can't examine a patient .For writing a Rx, you need NPI number and/or DEA number which you can't get without lisence. If you use someoneflse's numbers, it is fraud and will be in trouble with law enforcement.
If you are lucky, you may get to work as a research asst, or office asst who can't get involved in patient care.
Once, we had an Indian Dr with out a lisence (or USMLE/ECFMG), he worked as receptionist (front office), couldn't take a history let alone change a dressing.
Another issue will be malpractise insurance for you and the "employer"
If you are here on an institutional arrangement ( University to University for specialised training), then the host university will get you a limited liscence to work under them with insurance coverage as long as you are employed with them. With that, you can't work enywhere else.
The "chart reviewer" and "surrgical tech" storry are TRUE , the surgical tech work under the operating room nurse to hand instuments .
SO, buyers beware

Thanks for the info but i reality it is a blind end, unless you have EFMGC and did a residency , no fellowship program will accept your application. Both of the residency and the Fellowship program use the application through the ERAS. and it is also very competitive and offers one or two spot per year. Even with doing a strong research it does not guarantee to get in the program because still you do not fulfil the requirement to get into the program. Very few fellowship does not use the ERAS but still very to almost impossible to get in. In fact to work in medicine in USA you need to be a licensed board certified, unfortunately this is the only way.
I personally know many who did fellowship without residency in the US and got amazing jobs.

I am a Non US IMG and I will doing right now the residency in my home country. I have already passed Step 1 and in may i will be sitting for the Step 2CK. My intention is to finish residency and look for a felloship in the US.
My question is: by 2023 I will have done Step 1, Step2ck and OET.
I could do a pathway to get ECFMG certified but, If i want my certificate to last till i finish my residency, ( ecfgm certificated to be permanent) i must do a 1 year of ACGME trainee program?.
Is there no other way by completing all this steps (Steps 1, 2ck OET), once i finish my residency just do any of the pathways and then be ECFMG certified and be able to apply for a fellowship?
