With the Federation weakened the space colonies would be able to push for more independence and freedom but also would give time for Axis to return and rebuild Zeon.
At least the basis of mobile suits isn't too far fetched at least, humanoid shape is unnecessary; but the whole idea of needing very strong and fast ship-killer unit for close quarters space combat is a pretty good idea. Especially when you factor in all the electronic warfare bs that makes precise long range targeting all but impossible
Realistically most of the fleet would be intact as nuke in space is not that disastrous and each ship is far apart... But EMP field with 1000+km radius would knock them out and they would die slow agonizing deaths as their life support system failed.
While you are right about this not being how nukes work in space due to needing an atmosphere, they are still right next to a giant asteroid base. They would probably be fine, just sit tight and wait for rescue

Finally someone mentioned this, it make zero sense and is stupid. Also in space since there is no air fiction, GP02 can actually launch the nuke from very great distance...any intercept probably didn't work because if they can't intercept a MS they probably can't intercept a small warhead (m particle interference)

今更ながら今から20年近く前の話だが…中国人はエギーユ.デラーズと読まずデラーズ・フリートがデラーズの名前だと発表してた様な😂😂😂
I've lost alot of respect for gundam over the last few years as it has become increasingly watered down and convoluted but the UC timeline still has reverence specifically because of scenes like this.
They're not that convoluted tbh. Hell I would argue UC is the one with convoluted problem.
I have become death
Akio Ohtsuka is a better fit for Gato than Kirk. All I hear with Kirk is saito, or that loser from code geass. Whereas Akio sounds like a genuinely serious person who do whatever it takes to achieve what his goal no matter what.

Imagine a nuke in space though, no air resistance, the blast will just keep going and going, same with wreckage and irradiated debris
The English dub at the end RUINED it imo. The CHANGES in the voice and tone is just OFF PUTTING. The LEAST they could have done is to TRY to sound like Anavel Gato's Japanese VA's STERN voice...
これ再録版か…
声にも違和感あるし、何よりSEがゴミすぎてすぐ分かるな
