Wow. The exteneded solo passage in the first movement was full of great nuance, more than most pianists deliver, within highly technical music. Very solid playing.
The Orchestra is a lit bit too Loud and Somewhat too mechanical..almost regimental ! Shishkin seems to be obliged to wave from interpretation to technical ...following the Direction
I’m sorry, I look like I’m criticizing, I can’t play this concerto but I wouldn’t like to play it like him. I must be too used with listening to the most legendary pianists in the world... There is no soul, no conviction, no love. Technically, he plays very well, but I got super bored, especially in the 1st movement 😐 Where are the great pianists of the 20th century ? It’s sad because all pianists from today are cast in a mold. Pffff.... Years ago, I met a Russian taxi driver at a friend’s house. There was a shity upright Yamaha and this dude played the 1st movement of Tchaikovsky even thoughhe was drunk. To say the truth, he was fucked up... but the music ! I was like wowwww are you a professional pianist and he answered “No, I’m a taxi driver, everybody learns how to play in Russia” I was like WTF bro ?! Your concerto is awesome. And here, I’m listening a competitor at the Queen Elisabeth and I so f*cking bored.... That’s not fair... Don’t get me wrong, he’s an awesome pianist, but like thousands and thousands..
Unfortunately there are a lot of well educated people in Russia who drive a taxi. Queen Elisabeth’s competition on piano is not that place you’ll hear something interesting. Come to the Tchaikovsky competition (maybe at 2023) and get impressed.
The first I heard of shiskin was playing the Op 10 no 2 Chopin in some competition. I had the same impression, even though the speed was something like 184. I don't hate any complaints about this performance. But who wants to listen to another warhorse being taken for a trot? I just skim to hear his octaves tbh. His technique is amazingly efficient.
@@marksmith3947 There are many soloists today that have technical brilliance but leave me cold in the end. This may be one of them together with, dare I say, as does Hilary Hahn in many of her recordings.
