    Took my checkride 2 weeks ago today. The oral was quick. About 90 minutes. The DPE put me at ease right away and it was like a conversation. Next thing I knew he said " lets go fly" I looked down at my watch and was 90 minutes later.

    Best advice I can give Is remember your test is by a specific examiner who does this for a job. They usually pic there favorite questions,emergency,etc. So before your exam ask as many instructors and recently licensed private pilots in your area they’ll tell you what that examiner usually focuses on. Also a great piece of advice is to not be so scared I was terrified and ended up getting 98 on written and my examiner said I had the intelligence of a commercial pilot. Never doubt yourself

I’ve always loved aviation having had a Dad and an ex-boyfriend, both of whom were proficient pilots of single engine small aircraft.❤️ I love listening to all the pilot channels, but find this one especially interesting! The most important book that should be referenced in all of these videos (every single one) and for every Practical Test is the FAA Airman Certification Standards, or ACS. In that book it informs you and your CFI what items and tasks that will be covered on the test. And it’s the same book a Designated Pilot Examiner MUST use when developing their Plan-of-Action for the test. It’s a shame that the ACS is not referenced or even mentioned once in this video.

    I took my private check ride in 1991 and my instrument check ride in 1992. For almost 6 months when I was not working or in bed, I had my nose in my FAR/AIM. My instructor for both was a CFII and about a week before my private check ride, he told me to cut back on my study and just relax. The examiner that did my private told me upfront he wanted me to feel comfortable, but he was not going to just pass me. We walked back to his office, he offered me some coffee as he went over all my paperwork, and just started asking me questions. About 35 minutes later we went flying. My instrument check ride was much different. I worked that day and the examiner allowed me to schedule the check ride for about 10PM. I was tired and made a lot of mental errors setting up the approaches. But, I did get my ticket.

      @@edb7742 I would say yes. My job isn’t to trick someone into failing. However, I have a fiduciary responsibility to test the areas of operation and associated tasks provided in the ACS so there are no secrets to the oral or flight. It’s in everyone’s best interest that I provide a comfortable testing environment and if they’ve studied they’ll do fine in my oral. If they didn’t study then the checkride goes south pretty quick and there’s not a whole lot I can do about it. I’m a dad and care about each applicant but we also don’t need aviators giving 40% of their ability, we need them considerably more engaged than that.

    Just to clarify on the recive only RCO like 121.1R. As a pilot you transmit to Flight Service on 121.1 but you need a functional VOR to dial into the VOR frequency then turn the volume up to hear the Morris code. Flight service will talk to you through the Morris code transmitter on the VOR frequency.

    Could you honestly say that you would have passed a student with this performance on the oral exam? She obviously would have studied more for the actual exam but I'm looking for a frame of reference on what is considered acceptable or not in order to pass the oral.

    I remember my first solo. My instructor had me pull up in front of the FBO engine running. he sign. My logbook said “Stay in the pattern. Full stops only. You got thisI’ ll talk to you if you need me to while you’re doing this. “ he had a handheld radio. I remember taxing back to the runway 24 ocean county, New Jersey I remember, announcing myself entering the runway . As a rolled down, the runway the plane lifted off into the air. I remember saying to myself. “Oh God, I hope I know what the hell I’m doing.” came around landed. Taxi back to go up again, and said “I got this.” don’t remember how many landings I did but my instructor told me I had to stop I said. “just one more” he said OK.

    To EASA students watching this video: some of the answers differ according to EASA standards.
    About the first question, wasn't just about taking passengers after more than 90 days without flying, which require 3 takeoffs and landings (not to a full stop, which would mean 3 separate flights, you can also perform stop&go and even touch&go) on that specific model... the examiner specifically asked what happens if you don't fly for 6 months right after getting the license. Under EASA it's unlikely you would already have a night rating from the start, so the answer was partially ok but should have added that the flight is too late and you can only do day flights accordingly to the ephemerides, unless you convinced the CFI to squeeze a night rating into your 45 hours.

      Ya I agree. I was hoping that this was a bit more scripted and a matter of fact with the back and forth. Maybe more sharpened for teaching. His questions were great but as a pilot I would have expected more from her. Great video overall.

    Check your discussion on STCs. She states it's required for every modification done but that is not true. A field approval could have been given for the modification.

    This makes us remember many things we forgot over the years. Like the Flight service question . I thought the R after the frequency meant we receive on it? Also the question about directly entering a right base for rwy 05. I have seen pilots do it on occasion at non towered fields and towered fields can instruct either side and any pattern. I know it is not the right way to enter but is it breaking a law?

    • @NipponSpeedWorks
      @NipponSpeedWorks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you would only really want to do a right traffic landing if it were and emergency like if engine out, or your just having a problem. usually it will instruct on whether the pattern is right but it is usually always left traffic.

    A trick for 31 days in which month: knuckles have 31days : make two fists and put them together normal. JAN 31 days left hand smallest finger. FEB is the hump between pinky and ring 28 days or 29, ring is MAR 31, so on. July and August are Pointer fingers and the gap between hands is not a hump, not a month. If you do it, it works. Knuckles have 31 days
