  • The New Balance SC Elite v4 and Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 are two of the top marathon racing options on the market for recreational runners. On paper, they're extremely similar-both use 100% PEBA midsoles, have a carbon fiber plate and come in around the same weight. In this video, I break down the differences, share my experience with the shoes and let you know which one will be best for you.

    Just wanted to say that I appreciate you talking about how these shoes will perform for us big boys. I weigh over 190+ lbs, and foams/shoes 100% perform very differently for me because of that. I wish more reviewers would keep that in mind. So thank you!

    I already have the Endorphin Pro 4, and it's a great shoe, I'm pretty much an exclusive New Balance guy and only got the Saucony because they didn't have the SC Elite v4 in my size, the salesperson at my local shoe store recommended I try the Saucony instead, so I did, and I don't regret that decision at all!
    And FYI, I'm 180cm(5'11) tall, weigh 100kg(220 pounds) and have quite a wide foot, so I'd consider myself a bigger runner, and the Saucony still works well for me

    I bought a pair of Adidas Boston 12 over the Endorphin Speed 4 because of your review. My first pair of adidas runners and I love them. Your reviews really gravitate to my style of running. I can’t wait for your review on the Metaspeed Sky Paris as I’m looking for a new race day marathon shoe to rip a new PR. Going for sub 3 this year. I’m definitely a low cadence runner (153-155). The Tyr also looks promising as you compared it to my previous Endorphin Pro 3s

    Good breakdown, I tried both on and ended up going Endorphin pro 4. I liked the NB SC Elite v4s, but the Ep4s just felt faster to me. Initially tried going with the Metaspeed Sky Paris, but had to return them since my feet are too wide in the midfoot to feel comfortable to wear for a marathon. I would have absolutely stuck with them otherwise.

  • @muchcacao
    @muchcacao 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great review! 2 comments. First, the NB is a heavier shoe (despite what the NB claimed weight is). I'm not sure why the scales at NB are not functioning right, but my scale at home says that the NB is significantly heavier than it's supposed to be on paper. Running warehouse also lists it as heavier. The Saucony Pro is and feels lighter. Second, one thing to consider is the flex of the two carbon plates. The Saucony plate seems to have a firmer flex to me. The NB elite is not a firm flexing plate, which is good, because with the low drop, you actually flex the plate more than in the Saucony (and I think would therefore feel a rigid plate more).

    I had the same feeling in the EP3, with the heel. It was just a tad narrow for me, and when running the BMW half marathon in Dallas last December, you can just kinda feel how it's not quite right. I love the shoe otherwise, I still run in it often.

    Thanks Yowana. I like your conclusion on the ride of the Saucony. Sad part for me is the toebox narrowness. Though I haven’t tried it, Understand it’s the same as version 3’s width. I wasn’t successful with the Pro 3, pinky toe rubbing and potential blister/skin peeling off.

    • @supwell
      @supwell  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I had similar rubbing issues in speed 3 and pro 3 - put 800+ miles across a few pairs of those in total and my left foot is still paying for it 😂

    • @librarywifi
      @librarywifi 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Runrepeat actually measures the toebox width of all the shoes they test and the pro 4 has one of the widest they’ve tested (>10cm) at the widest point. I’m a 2E runner and pro 4 fits me very comfortably (better than most other racing shoes). Obviously fit can be personal so don’t mean to discount Yowana’s experience but given the shoe’s measured specs I would recommend wide footers at least try it on.

    If the SC Elite 4 rides similar to the Rebel v4, it’s a winner for me. Past experience new balance their fit,width and foams(especially fuelcell) worked wonderful for me. Coming from another 6’2 runner at 192-194lbs that is mid-forefoot striker that supinates more than pronates

    • @supwell
      @supwell  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It feels a lot different than the rebel v4 - I think I like the rebel more in its category than this. The foam in Pro 4 has a more similar feel to the rebel - softer and a little more compression / ground feel. Even though they are different foam formulations it's crazy how different the fuelcell feels in the rebel and sc elite

I really want the Alphafly 3 but not sure if I like the yellow and blue all that much for that kind of money?... I ran my first half in the Sc elite v4 2 weeks ago. I agree on the good and bad points. Im not that fast and they were overkill for someone like me. They did the job but I will probably try something else next race shoe.
    I normally land mid foot but supinate, they kinda force me to land on my heel in the later miles. I appreciate the amount of foam but something in the geometry didnt get along.

    fantastic comparison. So much detail.
    I currently do have a saucony endorphin pro 4 and ran half a marathon and an 18km. It was awesome as you started picking up speed, the carbon plate responsiveness and auto rolling experience. and that grounding. But I always wondered about NB S.C elite.. it is sort of my next wanna-buy. (the only barrier is the price). It has such a big heel. so much cushion. I love how it has a wider forefoot area compared to endorphine pro. But I wonder how that little 4mm drop would feel... maybe doesn't feel like rolling but flat midfoot stepping? (but maybe that bouncy feel covers the flatness of the shoes?) Anyhow, S.C looks cool and sure feels more comfortable to run (for stepping, i am totally satisfied with the fit on endorphin 4 as most others all are also very much aware of)

    I’m so SCv4 curious. Tried them on at the NYC Half and wasn’t ready to buy. I’ve been racing in Endorphin Elites and would love to save them until the 18+ runs for marathons. For NYC last fall I went to them for anything 16+. I used the Pro 2 for speedwork but they couldn’t take me much past 8. I have the Pro 3 now and they seem a step up from the Pro 2. The fact that you ran marathon distance in the 4 is interesting. How does the 4 compare to the Elite? I’m wondering if they could bridge the gap for my 8-10+ runs during my upcoming marathon training block, so I can have long run training in a plate. All shorter easy runs I’m using Novablast3 as a no-plate option. Sorry so long! Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

    I have both. For me, 6'2 195lbs, the pro 4 is way firmer than the v4. The v4 is like running on a bouncy cloud. The pro 4 is soft, but on the firmer side and no where near the v4. The pro 4 reminds me more of the boston 12 under foot. Pro 4 is slightly more stable for me. The super soft elite v4 and slightly more narrow forefoot and heel (confirmed by run repeat) make it feel a little less stable. The v4 definitely feels taller and i think that makes them feel slightly less stable to me, but not unstable.

      @@supwell right now my rotation consists of the Endorphin speed 3, Superblast (not totally loving it), Hoka Clifton 9, and Adios Pro 3. I like the adios pro 3 but the upper just sucks and I can’t see myself wearing it for a full or even half marathon. It’s a fun workout shoe though haha

      @@mbrackmann8 i felt the same way about the adios pro 3 - didn't feel the same level as the other racers. i'd go with the pro 4 if i were you. keeps all the awesome things i loved about the speed 3 but makes it faster and more comfortable

      @@supwell yeah the adios pro 3 is a fun shoe but just not amazing. I got it for $100 so I took a chance on it. Will probably try out the Endorphin pro 4! I know you mentioned it’s less stable in the heel than the SC Elite v4. I don’t necessarily need stability shoes, but since I’m a heavier guy I think I tend to notice super unstable super shoes more than others. Would you say the Endorphin pro 4 is inherently unstable? For example, I hate the Vaporfly because ZoomX is SO soft that I just feel myself overpronating so much. I know it’s due to my weight and size because I don’t have pronation issues in other shoes at all. I’m a midfoot striker but I think the combination of the narrow midfoot and super soft ZoomX just didn’t work for me

      @@mbrackmann8it's definitely not as bad as the Vaporfly. If you got along with the speed 3 you should be good in the pro 4 - it's a tad less stable than that but as a midfoot striker you'll be golden!
