    Only thing that’s bothering me is the strict thing I learned about using quads and triangles. Tris at the knifes hole. Not so important in games but else or when then?

    Hi, do you mind going over the curve/cable creation at 2:40? Have tried this on nurbs curves but don't seem to get the same nodes as you? I know there's probably a cable script that can do it but would be interested to know anyway. Thanks

      select a nurbs circle and then the curve, go to surfaces - extrude ; in the options make sure to set to extrude on tube and change to polygons.

    How did you keep the hard edges in Zbrush? Did you bevel in Maya before bringing into Zbrush or crease or bevel in Z?

      either way is fine, I personally bevel in Maya before bringing into Zbrush.

    Did you make the rope by wrapping a curve around the handle? Also what did you use to control the mesh of the rope?

      yes, extruded a nurbs circle on curve to control it.

    Love your work and I enjoy watching the process!! This might be a nooby question but how did you manage to not break your UV’s when you were sculpting in Zbrush with dynamesh?

      the Zbrush model was just for the high poly version, I used the original low poly version from Maya for the bake. You could also use transfer uvs back in Maya if you create a new low poly from Zbrush, it doesn't always work though.

      Turntable is from Marmoset Toolbag, it's not using a special shader or outline. The render is sharpen a little bit, but that was it.

      Oh yeah I used a circle and extruded to the curve using the extrude option from surfaces menu.

    Handle looks out of scale with the blade, the handle is quite small, looks like it would snap off

      I believe it is just to add some details because a used knife would look damaged so I think this is why he was sculpting all around the edges of the knife

      by importing an .fbx type file, the option is under zplugin -fbx import

    Does anyone else has the problem of not being able to import the file as fbx into zbrush?? I'm using Maya 2018 and zbrush 2019 and after exporting it from Maya and trying to import it into zbrush it is not able to read the file.Any piece of advice?

      are you importing from the zplugin-fbx import menu? What version of Zbrush are you using? if it's an old version you may need to change the fbx format year from the Maya exporting options to an older year format.

      @@3dextrude yes i do and the weird thing is that zbrush 2019 allows me fbx from 2016 and nothing more . I've tried to convert it into an older version but it still had the same result . I was thinking of downloading motionbuilder just for its better capabilities of converting fbx but i dont know if it is going to work.

      You need to make an object a 'live object' the toggle for that is at the top next to the snap toggles. Once you do that you can draw a curve on top of that object

      They can depending on where they are placed or if the geometry needs to deform. In this case there were no issue that I remember.

      I don't think I used any paid brushes for this one. The ones used are the Orb brush pack which you can get for free.

    My professor said you shouldnt have tris
    Only quads

      For low poly game models, tris are ok. Making the high poly in quads is usually better since it will give a smoother surface, but you can also clean it up in Zbrush if you used tris for it. For film models, always use quads. Most professors teach modeling for film which is quads only and it's a good thing since it will get you to model cleanly which is a good fundamental of modeling. So, if you are just starting to learn modeling, stick to quads.

    Well well well, your videos and concept models are too Cool to watch. But I always Wonder why you upload those videos as Speed sculpt/speed modelling videos looks like a Demo reel to us. If this is a Tutorial, we have so much to learn from it. Specially, if you upload Tutorial videos with this modeling pipeline then believe me, 100 out of 10 people will become "Pro Prop Artist".

And there are those who want to learn how to properly export and prepare the model... this lesson will not give them anything either - the author skips these points and does not focus on this process. in general, who is this lesson for? for the author himself-just to show off.

      For me, modeling in Maya is destructive, but every function is very clear. I am more comfortable modeling in maya rather than in Blender.
