This was absolutely infuriating when I was in. Was a team leader as a SPC for years, never got lat-promoted to CPL because "it's just not something this unit does." I was 11B, you'd think that if there was ever an MOS that would need Corporals it'd be the Infantry.
My hat is off to those of you in the military that actually understand what he's talking about!...Not having served, I can only get a small part of this!...My thanks AND respect, to ALL of you!.....Just sayin'!
Spc sucked because everytime i tried to act like an nco i was told by leadership to get back in my lane right up to the point i got in trouble then they told me i needed to start acting like the junior nco i was.
Corporal should be auto once a Spec4 hits P status, maybe like a company (or even platoon) level internal mini board for it or something. Pick up hard stripes, start getting NCOERs, and have a CPL-SGT development plan for each CPL to ready them for SGT. If we're punting PME for E5, then spending time as a CPL and having a development plan should replace it.
One of the biggest downsides to becoming a CPL was that it was usually a unit-level promotion. I met a handful of CPLs on Department of the Army orders, but for a period it seemed that some senior NCOs reveled in reducing newly arrived CPLs to SPC. Even if a CPL transferred from another company, the 1SG would find a way to take the stripes. Maybe it was the units I served in, as we never really used the rank. The common mentality was that if an E-4 needed stripes to serve in a leadership position, they weren't ready for that position. Hence, I was never a CPL, pinning SPC in November 2003 and SGT in March 2005. The Army is much larger than the Marines, and we tend to fill positions one rank higher. You can make the argument that Marines do more with less (which they do often have less), but as a retired Army NCO, I kind of like the Army's system. Our junior NCOs filling leadership roles tend to be more experienced and are paid accordingly. For example, while it's not uncommon to see a SPC/CPL filling the role of Team Leader, as their Marine counterparts do, it's expected that a SGT will fill that role. When I got bamboozled into two years of brigade staff time after three years as a Recruiter, with the promise of getting a platoon afterward, of course the promise was broken. I ended up with another squad as a SSG with over 12 years of service and seven years in grade. Sucked for me as it meant I hadn't gotten promoted, but I had far more experience and made a good bit more than an E-5 with a few years of service. SPC is a transitory rank in today's Army. You'll see some who get forced out at eight years, and others who you know will be SGTs within a year or two of pinning on the shields.
i heard the Army was going to get rid of Specialist. I just didn't know how they was going to do it there was some rumors they was go back to WW2 technician ranks i'm glad they didn't do that. But this is good all Specialist will be officially Corporals with honors. The Army is ready to expand if WW3 starts.
And navy E4 is a petty officer which is an nco, I think that’s more of the standard. Being a veteran of both the marines and army and e4 in both. I think it would be better for the force give responsibility younger goes pretty far

you're a dumbass and it's actually cute, Brits in ww1 were doing drag shows in the trenches FIGHTING in full drag yet it's such an issue to wear even just a skirt? remind me which side won? if it's so indicative of whether someone would win or lose, surely they were on the losing side of that war? not saying it's like super normal or fitting attire for the task at hand, but it is obscene to say it's indicative that we'd immediately be fucked.

As a marine, I never understood the Specialist rank.
Because you’re a marine, there’s probably a lot you don’t understand 😂

Corporals are the same as the home depot immigrant someone puts in charge of the roofing crew.
😂😂
Cpl's never left. Just seemed like they were limited to combat arms MOS's

My issue with it is it is more responsibility of an NCO. but no additional pay. I mean...I get it, but there should be some additional pay.
For marines e4 is the first nco rank vs Spc or Cpl.

That’s the military 🤷♂️
Always has always will be
CPL Mafia still E-4 Mafia
I can agree with that
No more Sham Shield?...say it isn't so!...ha ha!
No more SP4 mafia? 😮
Still will be, they are just pushing Cpl more.

Be realistic, there’s no bearded men wearing skirts in the army

Are skirts even a part of the Army's uniform? Beards can be if you get a medical waiver, but the vast majority don't.
