    I like the rank of CPL more so than SPC because it is recognized in all military units across the globe unlike SPC. What I think should be implemented is for the grade of E-4 to work the same as how E-8 and E-9 function with the 2-3 ranks within that grade.
    MSG and 1SG or SGM and CSM are same grade but different rank and responsibilities. One is for staff and admin the other is for command responsibilities. It should work the same for SPC and CPL.
    SPC should be for admin/staff MOS's such as 68W, 42A, 91B etc. While CPLs should be for combat or combat support 11B, 31B, 19D, 11C, 13B, etc. CPLs should be for team leader positions but SPCs only for staff. Give the respect to a CPL as you would an NCO. Also no more automatic promotions to SPC/CPL/E-4. Like the Marines do it, make them earn E-4 than maybe we will have more competent E-4s and E-5s. Not all E-4s are the same and know their shit, its usually the senior E-4s who do.

      Why did you call a 68W admin?

      Woaaaaaaah medics are admin now? Tell that to the next line medic you see saving your buddy in combat.

    I’ve said this for years. No more hiding behind non-promotable SPCs when it comes to taking charge of tasks at their level.

    Sounds like a way for the U.S. army to save money. When I was in Korea, the number of Corporals that I saw could be counted on one hand. Going from Specialist to Sergeant was the norm.

    This is going to cause CPL heavy PLT’s rather than SPC heavy PLT’s whenever points get high for an MOS.

      It definitely will. But in my opinion a good thing. You’ll be able to tell the difference from someone who’s been in the army a minute, and not someone who just started. I’ve known so many specialists who started at E4 (college, other techincal skills)

    Just become corporal last week before the break I’m just thinking how I’m gonna stack these points for sergeant and all these new responsibilities 😅

    In theory if a specialist has the points from civilian education, PT and others, then they should make E-5 just by completing the board and the BLC, depending on the MOS. I suspect that 11B which has cutoffs in the 300's, that if they have a passing PT and riange score, and they do well for the board, then regardless of the other factors, they'd have the points for E-5.
    If a soldier is going before the boards and doing the courses, it's clear they're going for E-5. So I think this is a good change. Whereas if someone's happy to stay at E-4, they can stay at specialist until they time out at 8 years.

    When I was a Spec-4 in the 90s you needed points and the "Soldier of the Month Board". Then you went to PLDC and got your E-5. Things sure have changed. I was at Camp Casey R.O.K. from 96-97. Manchu!!!

    Bleh they have to pass BLC course anyway so why make it difficult? The pay is low anyway.

    I can understand why the Army is doing this cause most E-4 Specialist goofed around including me iback n the 90's. So maybe this action will determine if a soldier is serious about making rank.

    Specialists were and are just an overpaid PFC. With this new requirement for promotion, there are going to be a lot of troops retiring as E-4 over 20. The Army always had a number of troops who are dufus goof offs. This just made it easy to spot them.

    Was in Humphreys from July 2017-2018. I miss being there and would gladly go back.
    To be honest, I agree with this system. Just like you said: giving a specialist the rank of corporal without their promotion status and leadership experience can be detrimental if they lack the latter knowledge. I've known SPC's straight outta basic make CPL because x, y, and z.
    I wish they would implement NCOER's for the rank (funnily enough, when you select your rank on the form, CPL is in the list) and at least provide a pay increase.

    My husband was told he was going to be one and he's sooo mad he's like No I don't want it. 🤔🤦🏾‍♀️ I'm telling him to just take it. What should we talk about now because he does need to be one before he can rank up now.

    did blc replace pldc?

    • @HalfRightFaceProductions
      @HalfRightFaceProductions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes and no, ill explain. 1st it was PLDC than WLC (Warrior Leaders Course) and now we have BLC (Basic Leaders Course).

    • @DetroitDis
      @DetroitDis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HalfRightFaceProductions I got it. I left in 1997 I was a Specialist who passed the board had enough points but did not go to pldc due to at the time a weight issue due to physical issue. I probably could had went. I was in tactical unit where we had a few corporals but only because we were in a tactical unit. Making people corporals when your waiting for points. I have to say as being promotable I still was treated like a team leader as an e-4. All I see doing is making the promotables a different rank then their e-4 peers which was already there anyhow just now it's more defined.
