I finally and officially got into the nco corp after 2 years of SPC and learned a lot long the way. How e5s function with lower enlisted and higher from a spc in e5 position standpoint. I pcs'd to a new duty station with a mindset of starting fresh and shining amoug lower enlisted in just MOS knowledge and judgement. Now im a cpl and about to make e5 within days.

SFC French, way back when all the way in 2006 when my Leadership promoted me to Corporal, I think that promotion means more to me than my promotion to Sergeant. My Leadership entrusted me to be a part of the body that led the unit. My next promotion up was based on my personal merit and drive to earn enough promotion points. The trust that was given to me from the Battalion level all the way down to the squad level across the board was immeasurable. Even before the promotion, I was writing counseling statements and risk assessments. I made things happen.

I wasn't trying to get promoted. I was offered an ultimatum. Become a Corporal, or a PFC.
But I was mistaken. I really enjoy being a corporal. I get to train people, I have the largest squad, I can talk directly to my PSG, and all the shops more or less respect the promotion. If I get into it with a different company my company will have my back, and I don't have to do the admin shit that comes with E5 lol.

I have 3 years JROTC, I’m 25 (tried to enlist at 18, fell through) I’m enlisting in the army and my recruiter tells me I’m going to be an E-3 right out of basic. Should I be worried?

I would never recommend you being promoted in your unit or more importantly in your squad, my suggestion is once you get promoted to NCO status you should relocate to a different squad or platoon to start fresh

Yea they screwed me over. I wanted to jump to sgt but instead I’m stuck with CPL. Unlike my shitbag superiors who never should’ve made sgt and got cpl.

As long as you have a climate that embraces CPLs as NCOS your fine. It starts with you tho.
