I have to make a new comment as I feel this is pretty awesome and I don't want it to get buried.. I asked H2o Mechanic a question on an 8 month old post at about 5:20 am central time . ( I don't sleep much) . He answered my question in 20 minutes. TWENTY MINUTES! For free! That kind of service is unheard of in this day and age. Thank you very much for all you do to help us learn a bit about your trade. With service like this, I know you will go far.

So happy I found this! My well pump just went out and I just don't have the funds for a $2500 pump replacement. The Vevor pump in the 1 1/2hp size is only $144 with that controller, and something I can afford to buy IF I can put it in myself and save myself the labor cost which is astronomical out here in California. Putting it in myself is the thing. I can manage connecting the new pump and routing the wiring, but being on the near side of 70 years old with a fairly frail body, pulling the pump is going to be a thing. Another, is finding out if my current (2 year old) control box will work just fine with this pump instead of using the one it comes with. If so, and if I can find a creative way of pulling the pump myself, old would seem easier than installing the new one. Anyway, thanks for posting this video. I'm sure I'm going to be watching it as I do the job.

I installed this 1.5hp Vevor with correct large copper wires at 127 foot head. It immediatly drew 15-16 amps (too high), but still pumped water up to shut off pressure (65psi). It lasted 3 months and then started using 20+ amps, then quit entirely the next morning. Unless you're a fan of doing the job much more often I would advise a different pump. Mine was purchased off Amazon for about 150usd with the control box. Note I'm shipping for another pump, and the tools to pull this one out. Good luck, my fellow DIYers ;)

I noticed you hooked up a control box to this pump most of your other videos you don’t are they not needed is there pros and cons ? What’s your thoughts on that vevor pump in comparison to the hallmark thank you bet straight forward videos sir

    • @h2omechanic

The Vevor pump was a 3 wire pump. Those require that box. Other 2 wire pumps do not.
The Hallmark pump id rate 2 out of 10.
The Vevor pump performed Above & beyond what I was expecting to see. That being said, both are around $150 and very budget friendly, my concern is How long will they last.
Great for Temporary use or irrigation. As a professional Installer, I wouldn't sell on to my customer, but its a great choice for anyone that wants to DIY a pump system and trying to do so on a Budget.
Frankin pumps I sell along with Grundfos are near $800-1100 dollars. So you can see the appeal in the Vevor pump at $150. But my $1000 pumps I typically install will build close to 200psi. Vevor did 120psi, Hallmark did 65psi. Those numbers equate to max operating depths. If you double the number (psi) above, that's the maximum depth Those pumps can handle.

@@h2omechanic Are these VEVOR pumps with a control box Capacitor Start Capacitor Run? or is there some kind of switch at the pump motor for the capacitor... it does not seem that there are enough wires? What sort of control box would be compatible as a replacement for the 115V 1.5hp model when it looks like most control boxes on the market are limited to 0.5hp for the 115V rated control boxes?

I just installed a 3hp 2 wire vevor pump in my well. It sits 330 feet down. That pump will pump 15-20 GPM on the outside hydrant and builds 70 psi without hesitation. I'm only concerned for longevity just due to the price point.

bought two of these.. they were placed at a 120ft.. 12guage wire... first control box capacitor dies in the first week, second control box made it about 3 months before the cap went and the contacts and wiring melted in the box... Pumps worked great overall but control box was the weak link in the chain. Replaced with a Franklin motor and pump.... 220 volt... going to build new control boxes for pumps and who knows where they will end up....

Hi, let me ask you a question here. I got a 1.5 hp ve or that comes with a 4 wire cord. Red, white, black and green. I also got a control box like the one you have but the area where I want to use this pump there’s no power lines close. So I want to or have to do it with a generator. I’m planning to connect the control box to the generator by just plugging it in. So my only doubt is to connect the pump cord with those 4 wires to the box. How does that go?
Im no using a pressure switch or anything else besides the pump and control box just to power it on and off.
I hope im clear with my explanation and thank you for an answer.

I'd hope you found a solution for your problem but if you haven't I suggest you do a search online for a very similar setup to make sure you do not damage or hurt yourself. You're not the only person that's used a generator to power a well. Personally I'd suggest you buy a pressure tank and switch and make it all portable somehow. Never be afraid to ask for help. Good luck.😊

Thanks for the help last week. I now have to decide either to stay at the 100' wire depth that comes with the 3 hp pump or to splice with another 200' of wire to reach a 300' ft depth. The well is 525' deep and is holding water at around 30'. It's producing 20 - 25 gpm so according to calculations 100' should suffice. But would it be better to go to 300' now? Your help is greatly appreciated.

3 wire pumps have external capacitors in the control box.

When you hooked up two hot wires?

Black is hot, goes to the breaker.
White goes to the neutral bar in the breaker box.
The pressure switch hooks up the same as it would for the 240v would. The switch doesn't care.

Why can't you use 100 psi drop pipe?. Just curious.

100ft deep =44psi head pressure. Plus 60psi operating pressure. That's already 104psi at only 100ft Deep with 100psi pipe. It's OK to use on a jet pump or say a 60ft deep pump set. But why risk it.

@@h2omechanic Oh I see, thanks soo much for the quick response, and the enlightenment!. I appreciate it!. :). We live off-grid in BC Canada and are going to try make our own shallow well here on the homestead using a trash pump. We are on disability, and super poor, living in a tiny cabin, and absolutely cannot afford to pay to have a well drilled, so we figured we'd try our hand at doing the trash pump method as we already have one that we use to get water from the lake. We plan to get one of these Vevor 115v pumps. So I guess we'll get some 200 psi 1 inch poly pipe, and 4 inch PVC for the casing and give it a go. I am curious though as I use the pump to go down, how will I know when I've hit the water table?. I honestly wish we could afford to hire a pro, but just affording food here in Canada every month is near impossible, then add to that being on disability now and having to go to the food bank every month it's totally out of the cards to get it done professionally. But yeah, thanks for the input, I have been researching this off and on over the last 4 years and I'm pretty sure I got a good plan in place now. We are going to use 1 inch poly with a 2 inch to 1 inch adapter to the pump and then bury a 10 foot piece of 4 inch pvc as deep as we can then run the one inch down the hole with the pump using a couple IBC tanks full of water to pressure drill it out and see how far down we can get adding 10 foot lengths of the 4 inch PVC, and fingers crossed we find water!. Anywho. Keep up the great work on your channel, I subscribed last night, very helpful stuff my friend!. Sending good vibes from Canada!. - Adam

in you video of March 25, 2019. you only use "Rubber Duck take Duck Brand 393154 Rubber Splicing Tape, 3/4-Inch by 22 Feet, Single Roll, Black" and provide al link to exact product--for 15 years. but in this video it seems you use just regular old electrical tape. why?

    • @h2omechanic
      @h2omechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Rubber Tape is to protect the wire splice itself. Black electric tape is only used to secure the wire to the pipe.
Note:there was no wire splice in this video as it was only for testing purposes

I want to convert my jet pump 2 line system to submersible and im understanding everything but as far as the length of the new pipe goes do I just match it up with the old pipe I pull out and add the extra difference for the cap extension?
