REMAP TO STAGE 2! | MSD MULTI-MAPS | MSD400 | FOCUS RS

  • The time has come for more POWER!
    This is the latest performance mod that I have installed onto my Ford Focus RS MK3 and it is the culmination of the build up to stage 2 that I have been gradually working towards with performance hardware upgrades ever since I went stage 1 with the Mountune FMP375!
    I have not went for Mountune though, as many of you may have guessed that I would - I have went for a different tuner this time in the form of Motorsport Developments aka MSD!
    This is quite a significant step and mod for a number of reasons; firstly it is adding horsepower; secondly it is a new tuner; thirdly it offers features and benefits custom to me and also features and benefits not available through Mountune!
    I have been running stage 1 from Mountune / Ford Performance for over a year now, the FPM375 map which of course was warranty friendly which was my main reason for choosing it.
    Now, however, my warranty has ran out so it is no longer a consideration so you could say that my options suddenly opened right up!
    I have been adding several performance part mods to my MK3 Focus RS steadily, most (but not all) have been from Mountune so you may have thought the logical map to get would be from Mountune, either M400R or M400X. These of course were a consideration when coming to a final decision on what map to go for for stage 2.
    There were a number of factors that led me down a different path, generally speaking the potential for more custom features and indeed more power was what did it and I will talk more about my reasons and thoughts on the matter in a future video but for now all that needs to be said is that I love the Mountune hardware, I feel it is very high quality, and also that after much research I have went for the MSD multi-maps from Motorsport Developments / Evolution Chips!
    MSD has a number of calibrations available - MSD380 which requires very little in the way of hardware mods, MSD400 which requires at least an intake and intercooler and then MSD420 which requires a full bolt on setup including down-pipe and cat-back exhaust system.
    My mods to date fully encompass the requirements (and a bit more!) for MSD400 as I recently installed the Mountune V2 intercooler made by Pro Alloy but I do have plans for adding the remaining required hardware for MSD420 so right now I could get the 400hp solution and then get the 420hp map down the line or I could just wait. Motorsport development have a multi-maps option, however, that makes this process super easy for me to have MSD400 now and have MSD420 ready to roll at the press of a button when I am ready!
    This is a calibration that is loaded through the Cobb Accessport - the same device that Mountune uses - but the provided Cobb Accessport from MSD is not restricted in any way like the Mountune MTune version is.
    The Cobb Accessport allows me to take a copy of my existing map - Mountune FPM375 - and then in the future if I want to I can un-marry the Accessport from the RS and load FPM375 back on and then sell the Cobb Accessport - something that is not easily done with the Mountune version!
    Also the map customisation features and Accessport gauges are left fully fledged which is really cool!
    Motorsport Developments have their web form set up to allow for some customisation of the map as well as offering remote custom tuning through the process of taking data logs using the Accessport, sending them to MSD and then having MSD sending back a revised custom map to load onto the Accessport and then onto the RS which is super awesome and handy for people like myself who live quite far away from their physical location!
    I show the process of purchasing, updating the Accessport and installing the new MSD multi-maps onto my Focus RS MK3 and give a quick blip showing my ENHANCED POPS AND BANGS!
    The process is very easy and user friendly, I really love the Cobb Access platform!
    There are many features to talk about so keep an eye out for a future video on that!

    • @AdamRainey

      Hi Mark, unfortunately the Mountune version of the accessport doesn't let you add other tuner's maps as far as I know but you can still download the accessport manager software from Cobb and do updates in the same way. Cheers :)

    Are the pops and bangs on the Cobb map safe for a standard cat? What helped the decision to go with Cobb and not the next level up with Mountune? I love how they integrated the cruise control buttons to switch between maps, pretty neat. Looking forward to next weeks video mate 👍.

    • @AdamRainey
      @AdamRainey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are indeed safe. Not that much more than the standard pops and bangs, just more random and natural sounding. The next vid explains things more as well giving some detail and examples of the pops and bangs. Tomorrow.... cheers :)

    I got my COBB access port from mountune is stated they are unlocked. I head alot about them being locked so IDK if they changed that. I am running stage one due to only having the intake and exhaust. My catless down pipe will be installed soon im just waiting to get the right connection, im still using the v-band clamp.

    • @AdamRainey
      @AdamRainey  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the USA Mountune is different the Mountune in the UK. USA Mountune acts as a Cobb Pro Tuner offering OTS maps and custom maps via a vanilla Cobb Accessport, much like I have done with MSD, but Mountune in the UK modify the Accessports to only be compatible with their OTS maps as well not offering any custom mapping options

    • @AdamRainey

      'this guy' knows exactly what the drive modes do which clearly you don't. You have the exact same amount of traction but less traction control, which would only be doing anything in a slip situation (most of the time not happening). That plus I turn it back on by pressing the little button anyway
