Congrats on the GenMax. Got mine almost a year ago. Change over to floating neutral will take about 30 mins. When I did my break-in, I connected two air fryers and just let them cycle to change the load between 0%, 25% (with one on) and 50% (when both cycled on) and did it all on propane. But the best thing I did was install the MicroAir Easy Start on my AC unit. On my post break-in test run, was able to run the AC, most everything in the house, two fridges, microwave, and coffee pot without exceeding load limit on propane. My plan will include running on regular pump gas, followed by a 'clean out' on ethanol free gas that I make myself, followed by a short time on propane. And you are right, this this is QUIET! Enjoy.
That's a good idea with things with thermostats to change the load. I ran some saws during the break in and changed the oil. Still have to convert it to floating soon. Thanks for watching!
I would have to change to a floating neutral in order to hook into the transfer switch on the house? What happens if you don't switch to a floating neutral? Will it not power the house, once plugged into the transfer switch?
Thanks you for your review of the GM9000iED. It confirms why I bought one last year. Royal Purple recommends using the break-in oil for autos during the 1st 500-1000 miles (8-16 hrs @ 60 mph) and then switch to synthetic oil; so I am switching after 8 hours. Break it in using gasoline. For those of us confined to urban areas on the Gulf Coast; our choice it natural gas not propane. This is an extremely easy generator to convert to natural gas; no expensive conversion kit required. My generator started on natural gas just as easy as your propane test. I was able to have the house circuits powered; then started a 4-ton AC (ran this way for 30 minutes); and finally started the 2nd 4-ton AC while the 1st was still running. I have 2 Hyper Engineering soft starts installed on the compressors (soft starts are required in order to start a compressor). After 5-10 minutes of both AC's running; the generator overloaded and tripped out. The load meter was showing around 6500 watts. I never plan to actually try to use both AC's except for this test. I am happy. I posted a detailed procedure for the conversion at Power Equipment Forum under the Generator forum. A special demand regulator and large hoses are all that is needed for the conversion.
I actually just purchased the GENMAX 7250iEDC for my 50amp 5th wheel. The GENMAX sold me on the fact that it comes with a 50amp receptacle. I will be able to run both AC's, fridge, water heater, space heater and coffee pot no problem.
Exactly what happened during my research. Fully on getting the predator...then noticed the little things. The GENMAX and Pulsar also a forced cooled where they push the air along with the exhaust. Your findings validated my findings really appreciate this video.
Yup. I should have mentioned that too as pluses for these units. Subsequent to filming, there was a very LARGE sale on pulsar gens and it turns out they're not so great. I'm extremely happy with this unit.
What did you find about the Pulsar 9500 that is not so great? If the Genmax 9000 and Pulsar 9500 are close to identical generators. I'm trying to get a generator narrowed down and it's a crap shoot: Thx for the review. @@JohnWCH
I decided to go with a Westinghouse 15000/12000 generator based on reviews. I needed more power than 9000 watts to run my central AC, this model has a true oil filter & oil cooler. It uses a V-twin OHV engine and produces less than 5% harmonic distortion for high end electronic equipment. I bought the gasoline model since I plan on only using this fuel but they do make a 12000Dfc model which runs on both gasoline & propane.
Great no nonsense review. Way better than many i have watched. Thanks for outlining your research and why you went with the Genmax. The minor mods portion was super helpful too.
O thought 🤔 this generator used 1.17 quarts. If so that 0.17 quarts may be needed later after it has ran for a while. 😊Maybe it just hasn't made it through the engine yet. Could be. I just ordered one. We have a 13 year old Sportsman generator which runs off propane. It will be nice to upgrade. We just got blasted with hurricane Milton here in Central Florida. We still are without power. Great video! God bless 🙏
I agree with you about the containers - super frustrating. This one time me and my friend Zeus were in central park and we had to weigh 4 gallons of water but all we had was a 3 gallon jug and a 5 gallon jug to work with. Anyway, Simon was a real jerk, but i threw his brother off a building so it's kind of ok. nord des lignes.
Great Video! I had one question. When hooking up to your house propane, are you using the output of your house regulator (9-13 w.c.) and plumbing it directly to the generator or is there additional regulation needed? A quick calculation for w.c to psi is ~.5psi and the 20lb tank regulator reduces the pressure to 1psi. Just bought the 10500 version and I'm waiting for its delivery. Thanks-Gary
The purpose of the oil screen is to catch any large pieces that would damage the oil pump, that is what sold me on the Genmax as well as one of the Generac units. In my mind having pressurized lubrication is HUGE.
Thank you for the video - excellent summary. Do you have to have two of these hooked up in parallel to get the 50a output? I've seen some generators that have 50a plugs that only output 30a unless you are running two in parallel - or maybe I'm misunderstanding something about that.
Keep an eye on that magnetic dip stick. The magnet fell out of mine and ended up in the engine sump. I was able to fish it out with a stick magnet. It’s a bad design because the aluminum expands and the magnet falls out. The stick should be made out of steel so the magnet sticks to it even if it gets loose.
Hey Looks like a nice generator. What about Duramax ? Is this same brand ? These generators still lack oil pump lubrication with an oil filter. This is downside but you have a small screen type filter if you can really call it a filter. The magnetic one you installed is better but there’s more aluminum then steel in these units. Nice video
Theyre all made in the same factory it seems. Same brand? No. Same Mothership? Yes. The Duromax doesn't have any sort of filtration on it. Whether you care about a filter or not, changing your oil will do the trick.
I compared the same ones and came to the same conclusion for the same reasons. Also added the magnetic dipstick, and a magnetic drain plug. Ran mine for 1 hour at idle, changed the oil, then did it again, and again. First hour was black, 2nd better, 3rd considerably better. Love the drain hose in the carb bowl, too, which makes it super easy to store. Drilled a hole on the battery side and put in a grommet to pass thru a battery tender cable, too. Have had to use it a few times and it's been fine. Runs my whole house including 3 ton AC (with soft start) no problem at all. My hour meter resets itself to 0 every time, but otherwise it's been fine so far. Considering the only "name brand" alternative is the Honda at over 3x the price, I can replace this 3 times and it'll still be cheaper.
I believe Genmax is the actual manufacturer of all of these similar large inverter generators, who buy ans rebrand them. Obviously harbor freight sells a lot of their units as the Predator. Depending on which 50amp cord and plug you get, if you choose the 90 degree 50amp plug, you will need a plug extender. The front panel gets in the way of pushing a 90 degree plug all the way in. You may also want to get the battery charger for the 12v battery.
Great review. Will you be adding a transfer switch to the house ? If so do touch think this is enough power to run the ac and other things in your house ? I plan on getting a similar set up. I might have to add a soft start to my 5 ton ac first.
I liked your assessment on the differences of the generators. Live south of Boston, When the power goes out, it has lasted up to a week with temps below 30 degrees (winter). just grinned and bared it. Too old for that now. I purchased a duramax xp9000ih, duel fuel a year ago, installed a 30 amp inlet box on the house with a lockout on the breaker box. Had to change the bonded neutral to floating which wasn't that hard and there is NOT a 50amp plug on the unit. Went on Amazon and found a magnetic dip stick that is compatible to purchase but not sure of which drainzit that would fit my drain plug. How do i find that out? is it a thread count or pipe npt? not sure what will fit. Any help would be appreciative. PS.... my power has gone out every year for the past 20 years. Since I invested lots of money in the generator last year the power has not gone out since. Maybe I should pull the trigger on a new snow blower and maybe it wont snow.
What I will say about warranty is you must buy the extended at Harbor Freight and it can’t be beat period, Amazon is a roll of the dice . No duel fuel is a deal killer for me too propane is a must. It’s also been reported by repair shops can’t get parts for Genmax
Fyi I'm sure you know try getting propane delivered or filled on power outages for weeks it's the same they will not deliver and it is almost out before you get to a home deponor gas station. The only benefit is that you have a second alternative for just a few more days of propane

are you saying out where you live you do not have a storage system for 100 gallons of gasoline, 100 gallons of diesel!, then a 500 gallon propane tank + a number of full portable tanks? as well as 8 cords of seasoned firewood. as that couple of inches of snow will make you home bound till the plow comes through.
Where I live, I have 60 gallons of gas, 55 gallons of diesel, 435 gallons of propane, with 5 portable tanks, and way more than 8 full cords of wood. I think I've think I've shown all of that on the channel. And a few INCHES of snow won't cripple us, but a foot or two would keep us homebound for a few days.
Got one of these Genmax 9000 iedc and the battery died within 10 months and only 10 hours on the clock. The battery is hooked into a battery minder but it still failed. I called Genmax US service and after is very hard to get to talk to someone. So I emailed Genmax China and they said call Genmax USA. After several hours of trying to call Genmax I finally was told I have to bring it to a 3rd party shop to have the carb replaced at my cost. In any case do you unhook the battery to the generator when it is in a maintainer. I ask this because I have another 7000 watt honda and I just connect to the battery maintainer and it has been ok for several years now.
I start the unit once a month for about 10 mins. I havent had any issues starting, although its just starting to get cold now. If theres an issue, its gonna pop up soon.
You can just use SAE30 to break in an engine. Its non detergent oil so it allows for wear with out additives. this way everything can seat properly during break-in. Non-detergent oil its what i used to breaking and seat the rings on many forced induction setups...
I have the duromax. They have an issue. Front panel keeps going out. I am on my third one. I wish Predator has duel fuel. I use these in a Billboard LED Truck.
?, you referred to not being able to get gas if there’s no power, but you’re still going to have the same. Problem with using propane aren’t you unless it’s delivered and the have full delivery trucks, do you have natural gas in your area? Just a thought.
There's at least a months worth of propane in tanks on the property. Plus the gasoline here I have about 2 months of liquid power around. By that point, I'd have things figured out.
Do your knob for the gas and lp turn all the way around? Does it go past the gas option etc as does it point all the way down?? I’m trying to figure out if my carburetor is bad or the turn knob Thank you
It has zero issues running the house and has been perfect. The only issue, if you want to call it that, is I knocked it off the float charger at some point and it didn't electric start cuz the battery was dead. I pull started it and it was fine. It's a GREAT unit and I'm super happy with it.
While there may be a technical reason why that may be true, my tankless boiler says otherwise. It wouldnt work while i had this in the factory configuration.
Oh I see it now. Thanks! Your video is awesome. I ordered all the things you recommended. Thanks for posting this. Any other new discoveries since having it that would be helpful?
I run mine once a month or so to keep it tip top. If you weren't gonna do that, I'd get a battery tender. God knows I don't wanna pull it over, by hand, in a snow storm because the battery is dead.
Ok gotcha. I live in Florida but either way that makes sense. Do you have a video on where to hook up a tender or how to get to the battery. I am not very mechanically inclined but I can follow directions… 😂
I can't get past the 90 day warranty on the Predators. If they don't have confidence in their products, why should I? And the extended warranty they sell for the 9500 is $600. You'd be foolish to not get it so add that to the cost comparison.
Indeed. It's more watts than I need, I'll never have nat gas, and it was too expensive. The 9000 is what I needed. However, the 10.5 is a nice machine too!
Very disappointing purchase. Bought one off amazon lasted a couple months now know one wants to warranty this unit. Have calls into customer service but no reply
just a quick correction, that generator can produce 75 amps plus so why couldn't you use 50 amp plug to power your house? Also if you use that to power your central AC you should get a soft start kit installed because some units can draw almost it's full out put when starting.
That's not correct. The MAX this unit can put out is 37.5 starting amps with gasoline. You would need 2 to get 75 amps and that's only on startups. Max running is only 31.7 on gas. And I show my soft start setup on the follow up video to this.
@@JohnWCH 9000w @ 240v = 37.5 surge amps so then it's really about 7,600 watt running on gas & of course lower on Propane. I was thinking with the 120 volt only it would be 9000w @ 120v = 75 amps but would that plug even get power? I understand. Also do you hook that up to your house with a transfer switch, if so make sure the Neutral & ground aren't bonded for safety. Thanks for the reply.
Battery minder/tender for battery ?
amzn.to/3Ld9SnC is the one I use. cheap and easy.

Same here battery died with 10 hours on the clock as well
Can I ask what link for that Genmax drain hose for generator you replaced it with please.
Like by hose as well

Thank You
I see it's been over a year, you still recommend Genmax 9000. Thanks John
Yeah Ive heard that.
Looks like a nice generator if it was me I replace the cheap spark plug with a NGK the stock Chinese Brand plugs are not dependable.
Not a bad idea!
If there is 60 mph winds outside, and electric goes out, can you just push remote start, or do you have to go outside and turn on power switch first?
If you pre hook it up (obviously), the remote start definitely works from the inside. It's pretty sweet.
this unit gets either good or bad reviews on amazon. have you had any issues with it?
0 issues. and I work it pretty good.
Do your knob for the gas and lp turn all the way around? Does it go past the gas option etc as does it point all the way down??
I’m trying to figure out if my carburetor is bad or the turn knob
Thank you
It has stops at 3 and 9 o'clock so it does not spin all the way around.
Any updates on this unit and how has it done running your whole house off propane
It has zero issues running the house and has been perfect. The only issue, if you want to call it that, is I knocked it off the float charger at some point and it didn't electric start cuz the battery was dead. I pull started it and it was fine. It's a GREAT unit and I'm super happy with it.
@@JohnWCH awesome thanks so much for fast reply
Which size oil drain hose does this unit need?
Looks like I ordered 12mm. Not available on Amazon at the moment, but it is available on the Home Depot website.
Honda is the best and easy to get parts.
Honda doesn't make an inverter generator over 7000 watts.
If running it to a 50 or 30 amp inlet box the neutral doesn't need to be changed.
While there may be a technical reason why that may be true, my tankless boiler says otherwise. It wouldnt work while i had this in the factory configuration.
What is the size oil Drainzit did you order? I have ordered two from Amazon now and they have been the wrong size
12mm. Ive fixed the link in the description, its now back in stock.
Where is the link?
Is there a replacement oil filter screen available??
I called them about this, and they said if/when you need one, to email them. So I'd say so.
@JohnWCH ok cool thanks for that information
Quiet enough for a home in the suburbs?
Def. It's the quietest gen I have.
Where can i find a replacement battery ?

PARTS AND SERVICES AND WHO?
They're all made by Dinking. Parts shouldn't be an issue.
I can't get past the 90 day warranty on the Predators. If they don't have confidence in their products, why should I? And the extended warranty they sell for the 9500 is $600. You'd be foolish to not get it so add that to the cost comparison.
Mmy thoughts exactly, same as their welders, by the time you pay for the extended warranty you may as well buy a better made machine!!
Now there’s a 10,500 watt tri fuel model.
What is the issue with the unit?
They are all made at the same Chinese plant use the same engines etc
yeah definitely the extra hour meter you placed inside the engine bay is probably gonna die first.
KEEPING IT POSITIVE!
Sounds loud to me!
It's not.
Duel fuel i can see hope its what you use propane or nat gas . That unit will eat some fuel.😂
Ps I hope that wasn't purple oil that oil junk . Caught fire on hot engine on me. Viscosity horrible
Too bad it isn't trifuel.
amzn.to/3VbG9Rz is the trifuel
I bought a pulsar and it great!!! Best generator I've owned.
Good choice!
just a quick correction, that generator can produce 75 amps plus so why couldn't you use 50 amp plug to power your house?
