I am confused. I thought the new and rehabbed cars are made of a special metal that resists spray paint. For over 25 years the MTA trains were clean and free of grafiti? What is going on?
I do not believe that vandalism of spray painting subway cars should be a felony, not even a first-degree misdemeanor. Breaking windows should still constitute an arrest. It would be more detrimental than fare evasion. If first-degree vandalism by defacement of transit property constitutes a $250.00 fine for the first offense, then fare evasion should constitute a higher fine. However, defacing transit property can lead to an unwanted fare increase.
How ugly and degrading. A shame that the MTA has to waste money cleaning this bullcrap off. If you want to "express" yourselves, go spray paint your own private property, not public property. You're lucky you live in a country where "expressing yourselves" on public property won't lead to your fingers being broken or your hand being chopped off...
@Bjaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarn and london, search youtube for kings and toyd, a uk documentary, also check out tox graffiti documentary, londons most notorious bomber and for londons legendary crew, search dds graffiti
The #4? Ok, so that's a few miles northwest of Hunts Point but still in the Bronx. We're both Bronx guys that can disagree, but apparently we both like the subways.
Maybe so, maybe no. A whole mural spray-painted on one subway car takes lots of time to clean off than that on painted cars (like the redbirds). Even some of the Montreal Metro stations have a touch of graffiti.
Freedom of speech to disrespect and trash private property that cost millions of taxpayer dollars to acquire? Taggers have artistic talent, but are very selfish in that only a small percentage of the population enjoys graffitti while the rest of us that don't like it are forced to look at it when we ride these trains that our tax dollars paid for. The MTA is about to get even tougher on taggers and repeat offenders over 18 will be facing jail time to send a strong message.
I am not so anxious to look at scribbled-up subway cars. Let alone the tunnel walls. Graffiti artists need places where they can show their artwork as alternative to defacing public and private property. Defacing subway cars can lead to a fare increase.
@keybladekid0 seems that way but here is why it will never happen. they have a 0 tolerance meaning as soon as an employee sees it they call it in and the train is shut down and brought to clean that same day. regardless of the budget. kinda sux. also the new cars are simple to clean inside and out. only way it would come back is if a shit load of kids started bombing.....
NYC writers wake up grow some balls! if we can visit and paint their system than NYC writers should be able to!! its all about having the heart and balls!!
It will happen. Only a matter of time with all the issues going on around the world, people will have to cut costs down on certain things. Someday, the beautiful graffiti colored hip hop subway cars shall make a grand comeback. SOMEDAY.
That was not surfing or hitching on the outside of subway trains. That story is about defacing the trains with spray enamel paint, also known as scribbling graffiti.
dunno what happened to your last reply but i dont mean to insult, my fault. i disagree with you but should leave it at that. i had family off the 4 at 170th from '80-'89.
im a sewage worker. I care.Ass hat.. Why dont they stop washing the damn paint off...If it costs as much as it does If the MTA was smart, they would have stopped trying to fight graffiti.Because they will NEVER WIN.If you think about it the best way to fight graffiti is with graffiti. When a legal wall is painted, they try and make it look as fresh as possible so knowone would want to takeout the styles. If they left the trains still painted from all the legends in the game, nobody would touch em ;)
yea i think soo too but nyc writers thinks its a waste only run for a day if it leaves the yard

Its not like paint doesn't SHOW on the new cars.. Its just that its much easier to clean them..
