The unmistakable sound of a tent zipper opening, one of the great sounds of camping. I've been in the mountains for sixty years (and still am) here in NZ. It was very wise of you to collect dry firewood before you got to you camp site. If I can give you a tip (which you may already know) , make the fire a little bigger and before you light it stand your damp timber around the inside of the stones in a semicircle and this will dry as the fire burns then feed it into the fire. I teach all my students that, that way you can keep the fire going. Never use stones straight out of the river, they can explode and take your head off. Enjoyed your video .Cheers
One of those cold wet windy treks but you guys made it look so easy. A hearty meal sure does wash away those cold sensations. Great scenery and capably covered by you including good drone footage. Thanks for taking us along on this adventure Matt. Bushyboy Oz.
Thanks Ewen mate, can't beat a bit of bad weather to test the skills haha. But yeah nothing better than a good meal and a warm fire after a long day of hiking 👌🏻 cheers buddy, ATB, Matt
Amazing guys 👍🏆. Even when you feel the cold a bit & loose a little sleep with the wind it’s all worth it when you can see the beautiful countryside like you do. Hope Poppie is all good. 👍
Thanks Senna 🙌🏻 Yeah don't mind being out in all weathers 😁 especially when you get camp sorted get a fire going and cook up some good food 👌🏻 cheers, Matt
Nice matt! That was some frost on the 1st night buddy, shame you didn’t catch but looked and epic little adventure. Hope you’re well buddy, have a good weekend Ash
Thanks Ash mate 🙌🏻 haha yeah was just a tad chilly lol. Made for a nice morning tho 👌🏻 Had a great time and was nice to have a bit of human company for a change 😁 Im good thanks, hope you are too buddy 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Really enjoyed this video. It reminds me very much of Canada. Looking forward to cycling, hiking and camping in England, Scotland and Wales, very soon.
Looks like you both had a great trip! You really got some great shots of some beautiful scenery. Great idea using the fishing rod on the shelter aswell. All the best Paul
Nice one Matt - top adventure that in a lovely part of the UK. Some great memories made there, great to see your mate featuring too who seems like a top bloke - ATB pal, Chris
First time I've seen your video, no idea how I've missed you. great stuff though, fantastic, and much appreciated you bringing the outdoors onto the screen. I love getting out however, not done a winter camp as yet... Regards
@@georgetaylor5767 thanks George, glad you enjoyed the video mate 🙌🏻 it's a bit harder when the weather starts to get below freezing isn't it haha, I'm hoping to do a bit more winter camps this year hopefully 😁 hope you manage to get out on a few yourself, can't beat getting out can you 👌🏻 thanks mate, ATB, Matt 👍🏻
What a great 3 day wild camp you Guys had. Beautiful views with great company! 😎 I swear I could feel the wind chill through the monitor, looked (and felt) bloody cold! ❄️🥶 Don't know if I'd be able to convince myself to get up in the mornings... I'd be hidden deep in my sleeping bag!! 😂🤣 Great stuff Matt & Eze!
A perfect video, imho. Makes you want to go out and about right away. I‘d be interested in a full list of what you pack for your trips (not just the main items of gear). Any chance you‘ll find the time to post that sometime?
Great adventure there Matt. That's some pretty nice country (although that wind looked icy). Genius move to get that last cup of coffee, enjoyed that very much. Cheers mate, Erik.
Two blocks in the same tent is a personal thing. I went deer hunting five years in a row with three guys and we all share the same fire every night. Any deer hunter will tell you the best part of the trip is sharing the fire and the stories you tell around the fire. This goes back thousands of years.
Looks like you guys had a great time, beautiful locations too! I've always wanted to do a camp n catch, shame I can't fish 😂 Love your improvised stove at the end 👍 ATB 👩&🐕
Yeah was awesome thank you! Haha neither can I 😂😂 some pretty good TH-cam tutorials out there, especially on TA fishing 👌🏻 Yeah it worked quite well. I've done it before when it was lashing down and could get out of the tent to get a fire going so just made a improvised fire started stove to boil some water for a much needed coffee 😂 - atvb, Matt
Cracking video again matt...some challenging conditions but nailed it mate, what a fantastic place nobody picks better places cheers all the best mate 👍 🏕🐕
Thanks Garry mate 😁 Yeah is good to be tested every now and again haha. The camp spots class. Been to Blackbeck tarn a few times now and never disappoints 👌🏻 cheers mara 👍🏻
Great video mate! Lovely scenery, shame no fish but there’s always next time 👍 when you fill your water bottle in a stream like that do you ever drink it as is? Or is that always boiled ie for coffee water?
Thank you mate 🙌🏻 Yeah I was hoping we would get a few fish from there as I've caught a few trout from there before. But conditions were pretty bad for it tbf lol 😂 So generally I always use my Sawyer mini water filter, but as we were so far up the valley I just drank it straight from the stream this time. But yeah best thing to do normally is either filter or boil it just to be on the safe side mate. Cheers for watching 😁 atvb, Matt 👍🏻
Superb video. I love your bushcraft content and real presentation. I thought the water crossing looked like Ennerdale. I was recently car camping and walking in that area. Can anyone ID the tarn please.
Lovely to see you with a mate, I would have liked seeing a gear review comparison between your MSR & his CloudUp, which was best do you think? Clever use of tarp 👍
Cheers Dave 😁 a bit early for me to do a decent review on the tent, and same for my mate as we've only used them a hand full of times. But they were very similar in terms of design (single pole and inner pitch first) Eze's packed smaller than mine too. But time will tell I guess. Maybe on our next trip we will swap for a night and see what we think. Cheers Dave, atvb, Matt 👍🏻
I’m going camping with a few of my friends in a few months, that spot on the second night was beautiful, what’s the name of it? Wouldn’t mind stopping there
Fantastic filming Matt! Love the improvised 'coffee a la frying pan'. Awesome location! I'm definitely feeling Inspired 😄👍 (I've just seen Eze's version as well)
Good video. Was wondering do you follow any other utube Channels and who do you like to watch. There some I watch over in Canada . You are just as skilled as these guys are. Thanks for the video will stay watching.
Thanks Michael, yeah most of what I watch is from Canadian channels, such as, canoe the north, lost lakes, Justin Barbour, Jim and Ted Baird, Joe Robinet, Northern Scavenger 👌🏻👌🏻😃👍🏻
Guys if you are in the Lake District National Park fire is not permitted. Sucks I know, it's a shame we don’t have the huge areas of land that can be accessed without restrictions like USA and Canada.
I know this is an old video but was wondering if you had the rough locations for where you camped on each night ? Would love to do the 3 day trip during the summer
good video but I have a couple queries.... 1, why don't you wear any headgear as 40% of your body heat is lost through your head. 2, it's not logical to me that there are even fish in those tarns; have you ever caught any up there? Thank you for sharing - take care and be safe out there....

it really is a great sound starting to learn that more and more
I’ve never managed to catch trout in those mountain tarns, but I have caught quite a few in those little streams, especially in Wales. Thanks for vid.

Great video mate, made me feel cold to the bone seeing that frost in the morning though if I'm honest 😆 thanks for sharing
Amazing adventure

What make stove do you use? And where did you get it from and gas canisters aswell

Hi mate, so yeah I do wear a hat when I feel it's cold enough, mainly when I'm in bed though. Also yes there is wild trout in these tarns 👍🏻
It's best to take water from a place where it's flowing the fastest
