People like to generate controversy for different reasons to fit in with a group, to be recognized and feel important, to make people convert to there beliefs, or for monetization. But at the end of the day it’s just fake outrage you can tell because people forget about what they where so upset about a few weeks later and move on to the next thing.

This anime truly gave me something I was missing for years. It gives me hope that I will be able to move even when the times are tough.
It gave me strength to address those issues that were pushing me back and sometimes they keep pushing me back. It will always remain inside my heart until the day I no longer exist. It is the best anime/LN to ever exist for me. It is a life saviour for many.

Mushoku Tensei has really impacted me with its messages. One of the reasons I love the series is because of the deep heart felt stories. From the misunderstandings between Paul and Rudy, to rudys heartbreak with Eris and Sara, and to the vulnerability to Rudy just having to accept himself and move forward. This anime is a favorite because it can really resonate with its viewer.

Mushoku Tensei is one of the series that heavily impacted my life. One of it is it's family theme. I once have a very loose bond with my family, to the brink of almost losing my connections with them. After reading this series, I took a lot more effort in keeping my family bond by keeping in contact and getting close to them, despite my anti social personality. Now, I will put my family over all things and I would do anything for them since I know they would be there for me when I need them as well.

Otaku Trucker here I whole heartedly support your stands on this show I am rudius he is relatable and kind wial not at all being a perfect person. He has flaws and struggles, this story isn't ment to be all good all the time right and wrong. It's a story of how life is hard how many shades of grey exist. Nothing is ever black and white this is a story about how life really is and not about how we wish it to be. I commend you my friend for highlighting this, the same online hate and outrage this show has received over the past few weeks is exactly what rudius has been trying to overcome and struggles with. This is a perfect story because it isn't perfect, because it has flaws in the world and characters. It is life and life isn't sugar happy fairy tales. Life is gretty life is struggle and life is beautiful all the same in spite of the negatives. I love this show and I won't let trolls ruin it for me it is a masterpiece. Thank you again Andrew and Chris keep up the amazing work you do every day 😊

There are so many points in this story that changed my perspective - especially on family and growth. When it ended and I realized that it was over, I felt so depressed and empty. I'm sure light novel readers know what the heck I was feeling at that moment. But it made me want to try at life for once too. Try, fall, pick myself back up to keep trying again. I wanted to have mature Rudy's mindset of always improving, over and over.
Now I do well in my university, have great personal connections in my own uni arc, and even got into lifting and stock investing. Its message to just try your hand at life to avoid regrets was very impactful-especially when you see it every step of the way, from Rudy's birth to the end. Lessons worth an entire lifespan. Even before this anime, I loved this story. Now, I love it even more.
This is my first and probably only chance at life, and I don't want it to end with plenty of regrets. I will keep trying, just like all these characters, no matter how harsh the turning points in my life can be.

The main underlying message of Mushoku Tensei is about the importance of friends and family.
Rudeus looks back on how he treated his friends and family from his past life and regrets it deeply. That's why he cherishes those close to him now.
For characters like Eris and Sylphy, the haters and tourists only see Rudeus as a horn dog towards them.
While he *is* a pervert towards them, that isn't the only way he sees them.
Back in Buena village after meeting Sylphy, he practically lived to protect and teach her.
And that goes the same for Eris during their Demon Continent travels.

Great video! I like that you talked about Roxy, normally, almost nobody mention it, but she's in fact a handicapped girl to her tribe, she's in fact, deaf to them and her parents. And what do the fathers of deaf children do? Learn a new language to be able of communicate with them. I wish more people see that in the story and become less petty when talk about MT.

Now with Mushoku Tensei airing I find myself always looking forward to your videos every single week to talk about each episode. I really enjoy listening to all the things you talk about as you dissect every episode and talk about all its details and the things from the light novel or other media that weren't in the episode. I also love these discussion videos that get me to think about these animes with different kinds of perspectives.

I absolutely love mushoku tensei, and the story only gets better as it goes along. More and more people just like this get introduced. Pax, zanobas brother, is an interesting character study in volume 19, and Claire, zenith's mother is also a great character study in volume 21. Even smaller ones like Shera and Vera from Paul's search party are extremely well written. I love this series because you can always find that one person you relate to most. For me, someone who has suffered with Depression and Inadiquacy most of my life, can see that through every character in this series how its never to late to make a change for the better, but to also expect that that change will not happen overnight. Please, for anyone else in a similar position, read the web or light novel. Although it's fiction, it's easy to visualize real people in similar situations in our world who go through the same painful and grueling process of changing yourself for the better.

I don't really get the controversies (and at this point I don't care) that people try to make it out of Mushoku Tensei, 98% of them are made by hypocrites and/or people who just don't use their brains to understand the basics of a story that doesn't give them extreme clear answers in general. I never saw a character like Rudeus (or for that matter almost any characters in this show) be so misunderstood. Some people really be acting like this is their first piece of media of any kind they ever consumed and are shocked by it.
But, anyway I love the show, characters and everything about it, since 2016-17 when I read in a site about this light novel synopses, I was already interested, and then it came the first trailer, and I was like "this show, I have a felling it will become one of my favorites" and finally the show came out, and I got not just what I was expecting, but, much more. I am so happy to be able to witness this show, truly a top 3 story for me (not just in anime, but in general). Rudeus itself is inspiring and has many moments of impact and positiveness that you could take to your own life to motivate you to get out/take a step to resolve your problems, some people just don't want to acknowledge the Characters in this show.

Some people claim that Mushoku Tensei is a redemption story; I don't think so. I think the core of Mushoku Tensei is forgiveness.
The following quote from an interview with the author is very relevant:
“You know I was a neet for some period too. Had the same frail state of mind including some unsightly parts in my life, and parts I couldn’t fix by myself. I thought that such people would be attacked and denounced by everyone around them, yet you know my mother she let it be and forgave me “Nothing can be done for now, rest and regain store up your strength slowly and steadily” Is what she told me. To forgive what should normally never be forgiven, to acknowledge and permit that weakness of others and be there for them at the same time, I felt that saves people it emancipates them. I felt like packing these thoughts and feelings into my work”
You can't write a story about forgiveness if your characters never do anything wrong.
There has to be something to forgive.

    • @Piromysl359
      @Piromysl359 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Redemption would require someone being victimized and redemption being possible. He cannot make amends for his actions, since he is in different world and he victimized himself, so it is a self improvement story.

Reading that quote I get the feeling this story is something the author holds very dear. It also explains why it feels so raw, yet real. And why most of the characters are complicated human beeings rather then npc's in an Isekai story.
At the end of the day, people who have lived through things and who experienced life write the best stories. And it shows.

I'm glad you made this video to hopefully nudge people to give this anime a chance.
I own/moderate a Discord server (ew, I know). It angers me sometimes when my mods ban community members too early, without clear evidence or enough of it to prove someone is unredeemable. I guess in a way, I also get infuriated at people who don't give Rudeus (or this anime) a chance. I've had people that I've unbanned, who have "grown up" and are now fun members of the community. And this was only possible by giving them another chance. I wish people of the internet (and in general) would give more chances for people or other mediums of entertainment.

I wouldn't consider them fans if they make it such a big deal. The real fans are the ones that know that everyone is flawed. Everyone can be evil and good at the same time. This story is one of the greatest every told. The anime is lacking a bit but this story is gold. Not only because of how the story is told and how story should be told but because itnis entertaining along with deep. Paul was my favorite character. And wish more of the other characters had more spotlight but it makes sense because this is a Rudy story. And we as individuals tend to only think of ourselves when we tell our story.

It’s a story with realistic aspects that isn’t afraid to make you uncomfortable, because you should be. The topics are very real, and the development is very real. He’s not a cookie cutter MC. Mushoku is amazing, and one of the best, because of how far it’s willing to go. I do think some of these opinions do come from an anime only standpoint, though. The WN does the character development more justice, esp the end of season 1. If I hadn’t read the WN, my respect for Eris would’ve absolutely plummeted (as an example).

As an anime only Eris completly baffled me at the end of season 1. Only when I looked online after the series to find out what happened did I learn of her perspective. Its easy to forget that shes a child throughout all of this to. And the pressure put on her shoulders as she was growing up were something one should never do to a child. She was as much a victim as Rudy was.

Gonna be honest, Mushoku Tensei has impacted me harder than any anime has before. A couple got close, with characters, events, or overall themes that hit close to home, but this story is basically hitting dead on every single time. It's not just personal, it's holding a mirror up and making me think of things I try like hell not to, lest I go insane or shut down. And to be even more honest, it's having a bit of the opposite effect on me, simply due to the nature of the story. It's become one of my favorite stories in recent years, and it's a beautifully crafted experience that's incredibly enjoyable to watch and think about, but it's the personal impact that gets me down.
I'm almost 30 years old, have no real friends and few family who care about me. Many bad years of school, followed by the death of my father, and now working a dead-end job with no real skills or talent in anything, it certainly hasn't done wonders for my life. I'll admit, I've been considering the worst for years now. So in that way, I relate to this show a lot more than some people might. Thing is, all the positive things come after the first scene, after his death. Where his amazing story begins, I can't help but see that as where mine will end. No second chances, no healing, no love. That kind of thing only exists in fiction, and that's why I've always enjoyed it so much.
This show is extremely powerful, in ways I couldn't have imagined before watching it. I love it for that, and so many other reasons. The fact some people ignore ALL of that, just to create some pointless social drama, that depresses me in a way I can't put into words. All of this story is wasted on people who refuse to even reach the first level of understanding.

Yea I dealt with a bad depression a couple years ago. Seeing rudy go thru something scarily similar really resonated with me for obvious reasons. It got me emotional and it sorta gave me ptsd a bit seeing rudy realistically go to try and unalive himself so irrationally. I felt like a proud father seeing rudy get out of that hole tho lol that further reinforced my will and made me more proud of myself for still being here. For further context I used to be really energetic and extroverted, had an almost 4 year relationship with a girl I thought I was gonna marry we even lived together up until it all fell apart so it's not always just ppl that were sad from the beginning. I feel like I changed for the worst as now I dont try to make friends anymore bc I don't find what I have to say interesting so the only friends I have are ones I had before. So with all that in mind it makes me happy seeing rudy not change too much from how he used to be pre depression. Very inspiring

Honestly this series hit pretty hard for me. I have some issues of my own, but also have family members who are coping with things. Including a brother who is somewhat of a shut in. The chapter with Rudeus fearing his sister is becoming a shut in was especially hard for me. I found it impossible not to cry from that episode and I hardly ever cry. It just hit to close to home for me.
Hes slowly doing better now. He has family around him who loves him who are trying to help him through it. But man is this show good in its portrayal of the anguish one feels in that situation. I tear up just talking about it.

  • @userk2comment

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
What the author wrote, is a love letter. MT is a love letter. To whom and what that love exactly is can only truly be understood by those who've received it.
Others may not understand it and chalk it up as nothing more than a cringe attempt at poetry; but to those who understand the language, the heartfelt, genuine and sincere message it sends can't be taken away from us.
Its a personal letter, afterall. Grand as the scale may be, it's still interpersonal.

To explain why the two beastfolk girls were scared of Roxy:
Remember how their village has the sacred dog, and they treat it as a literal incarnation of a guardian deity? Well they see Roxy as being Rudy's equivalent of their guardian deity (an actual incarnation of a sacred being, but for Rudy). There's also huge spoilers relating to Roxy's child and that sacred dog, and that's likely also something they can smell from Roxy.

This is such an inspiration video honestly. Because it reminds me how Mushoku Tensei characters are so inspirational. That no matter how down you are in life, you can rise up again and redeem yourself. No, you don't have to be isekai'd like Rudy to do that, because as we saw in this video, so many characters have their own problems and yet have their redeeming qualities and still grow as a person.

I've been busy recently, so I haven't really had the opportunity to keep up with your recent uploads, but I'm glad to have watched this.
I can't ever fully know how things would have been otherwise, but I do think that Mushoku Tensei literally saved my life. When I first read the WN back in 2015 I was not in a good space and heavily identified with Rudeus, especially the massive self-loathing and hypersexuality. I came into the story looking for some basic power fantasy escapism, and instead found a story of hope and possibilities. Specifically, the portrayal of improvement not being linear with failure after failure being just a part of growth helped me not give up on myself.
The story isn't perfect. There are things about it that I don't love (some definite Japanese cultural clashes with thousand-year-old lolis etc.). In the end, I don't see Rudeus as some perfect role model, nor do I want to emulate his life-style or relationship choices, but I do see his story as one to hold dear and reflect on.
Mushoku Tensei is my favorite story. It's something that has greatly helped me become someone that I don't constantly hate. I've read the entire WN/LN 3-4 times and watched the anime through proxy over half a dozen times. It's always great seeing others get some joy and meaning out of this amazing story to. So, thank you again for the video. I'm super excited to watch you read through the rest of this amazing story.

Mt it's not a favorite I have significant problems with it but it's clear that this story is well written it's charchters it's world are all great and it's willingness to tackle difficult and no right answer topics I respect even if I don't always agree with how it goes about it iv never heard anyone egnolage that durring the juiley episode that Rudy said that even if we get her and make her do something she doesn't want to thats not saving her nor do they mark her do they still own her yes is it wrong yes but it's better then 99% of other isaki it may be a low bar but thought was put into it. Mt has problems I think it tends to send bad messages sometimes or makes Rudy's relapses it's used for humor but those little things are a part of a story that is full of heart and purpose no story is perfect but just talking about its negatives is just as bad as ignoring them

I think a lot of people have problems with watching stories about deeply flawed characters because it sometimes can feel too much like looking into a mirror; either of themselves or our societies. And unfortunately it's easier to condemn those seen as flawed and deny any similarities we might share than to empathize with them, reflect on those same flaws in ourselves, and ask how they may have ended up in that position in the first place and how it might be possible to grow and move forward.

Honestly, I think it's fine for people to get mad at Mushoku Tensei. The show covers a lot of topics that are uncomfortable and sometimes despicable. As this video points out though, it's foolish to only be mad and ignore literally everything else the show stands for. Studio Bind could have toned down or glossed over many of these topics but chose not to, because stories, like life, have ugly moments too.

the reason the good messages aren't that well put in spotlight is because those who do enjoy this either 1. already saw the good in it or 2. already changed them for the better. I mean sure there are those that are truly saved them (saved how?) and really the best response to these is welcome aboard.

*Sounds of argument of controversial things going on*
Me: *sip a cup of coffee* Ah... What a lovely morning!
Good video man! I always have an open mind whenever I go into an anime so when I did finish it (the first season of course), I was like wow... I need more! And so I read like literally everything related to Mushoku Tensei (except for Roxy's getting serious and noo other fan fics yet. While LN only up to vol 21 since no time at all to continue to read) and um well... To say that it was ride is an understatement. It's like a rollercoaster that Rifujin (sorry if I got his name wrong) built while natural disasters are happening, yeah... just like that and damnit! I hate Mushoku Tensei for making me cry when I read! Like do you want me to read your content or not??!! I remembered stopped reading because I WAS TEARING UP SO MUCH! Yeah... I love/hate Mushoku Tensei for of course different reasons. No other series have really made me emotional (isekai that is) like Mushoku Tensei did. And seeing your reaction to the novels was like seeing my own and dang it! Couldn't help crying with you as well.

One part I really like about Mushoku Tensei is, that this story clearly portrays the ugly stuff that actually happens in life.
Not to mention the bullying of Rudy's past life and all the pervert and horny stuff happening in the whole story
(I find it funny people cancel this story as a lot of that pervy stuff actually happens in daily life on a daily basis. You can dislike it but you can't deny it exists and not try to face it.)
The part I really like the most is how the story portrays depression and regrets.
That is exactly what most people are very vulnerable to and have huge difficulty going through in their lives.
I do not believe there's anyone who never had regrets in their life.
Most dumb stories have your protagonists just simply not fail or easily shrug off some regrets or past scars in their lives.
From Rudy you can see anything that he goes through is actually and very clearly affecting his life on how he does things, even on a psychological level.
I still remember the fight between Paul and Rudy in the first season. It just felt so real when you laid out their relationship with each other.
Paul definitely isn't a good father figure to Rudy. But that's just natural even if we overlook his Greyrat blood traits, he was young in age when he got married, and Rudy was his first son.
He was a runaway child from his noble family, meaning he didn't really have his own good father figure to learn from.
What makes it worse is Rudy in his eye is a very intelligent kid that often outsmarts him. It is natural he doesn't know how to deal with him well.
This all breaks out when Paul is frustrated and full of regret for not being able to find his family after the teleportation.
He quite literally lashed out his frustration at Rudy while also being very drunk, which actually caused the fight.
I honestly teared up with them when I saw them being able to make up their relationship and apologize to each other.
I recall hearing people saying the school arc of the story is quite boring because Rudy and little Rudy are depressed, and there are no epic battles compared with the arcs before it.
It is quite the change of the tone of the story, but seeing how Rudy was heartbroken and managed to force himself to move forward, really touches me.
Despite trying to force himself to move forward, he still has some mental issues causing him to have trouble forming actual relationships with women.
And this is just so real. Even if you know in your mind you have to move forward, the mental damage done to you isn't going to be easily shrugged off just like that.
Eventually, it took YEARS for Rudy to be able to connect with another woman, and it really required a lot of help from a lot of others.
Another one that really shocks me is Turning Point 3.
I won't go into details in case some anime-only people read this part, but I believe you know what I'm saying since you are after that part in the LN.
There are regret moments after that part that really make you feel the regret of the characters even more down the line in the story
I know you are still at Vol13 so I won't spoil them, but be prepared to see another level of regret in Turning Point 4.
That one really tells an insane message that is totally on another scale.

I discovered this anime a few weeks ago. IDK how I missed it, but I immediately binged the entire thing in one sitting. Not many shows would ever do that to me. It instantly went into a top 3 anime of all time for me.
Part of what I like about the anime is that it just does not give a fuck. You can tell the artist is telling the story they want to tell. Finally, I am an adult and I am not being constantly treated like I am a child.

I truly struggled with some aspects of the anime when I first began watching. But after a couple of episodes, it dawned on me that I'm supposed to be uncomfortable. I'm supposed to be disgusted by how Rudeus starts off as. And that's because it's a story of redemption. And to be redeemed, you have to first be deeply flawed. Add on top of this the great world building, and this is the first anime I have rated S-Tier in years. In fact, only two other series that I've seen (out of roughly 160 different series I've watched) have been granted the S-Tier status. Those series are Code Geass and Eureka Seven.

11:00 don't forget horrific visions of his loved ones being maimed and killed.
17:00 Looking at Eris's home life it is pretty clear how she became so rotten as a child, she's the only grandchild in the region so her grandfather spoils her (+ imitates him), only child allowed to be raised by her mother (probably leads to leniency), and while its clear that Philip cares for his daughter he also sees her as a political lost cause, the only "good" future he sees for her is to marry Rudeus.

The reality is that people who are trying to cancel this show is just the loud minority, the fact that Mushoku Tensei ranked #1 on r/anime Favorite Isekai Anime poll and many other polls across different platforms proved as much. The truth is, Mushoku Tensei has changed the life of many people for the better, I swear I have never seen any other piece of fiction where people genuinely thanked it for bringing positive changes to their life, at the very least, I know it has changed mine.

People really don't understand that fiction is a safe place to explore concepts and ideas that are not safe. Rudy is supposed to be the lowest of humanity at the start. He was rejected by society, barely able to even look out his own window, only dating experience was in games, and ultimate was just waiting to die. We aren't SUPPOSED to agree with him all the time. The point of the story is how someone so lost and defeated can change his whole view on the world and grow into a better person for it. Those are some crazy deep themes wrapped up in a pervy, child sized body
