Nice demonstration with different controls Gary. When I came back to the model trains I purchase an engine which operates with the Lionel Cab One. Then I up grated to the Legacy Cab Two remote. Thanks for the video.
Great remote overview! Started with Lionel TMCC and now use Legacy. Starting to think about incorporating MTH's DCS. Liked that C&O Yellow Belly and the opening of the Lionel Magic Lunch Bucket. Clever idea!
Hi Gary, thanks for another great video. Most of my engines are MTH Railking. I run them with DCS. I also have 2 LionChief Plus locomotives with their dedicated remotes plus I have the LionChief Universal Remote. I prefer using the Universal remote to run my LC+ engines. I don't have any TMCC or Legacy locomotives so I don't have Lionel's more advanced control systems. I like the Universal remote a lot. It's easy to use and provides the basic sounds that I use. The only more advanced sound feature I use is the Passenger/Freight Announcements in my MTH engines. I don't care for the Freight announcements but the Passenger announcements are fun. I hope to add a few of Williams by Bachmann unloading cars and the remote at some point but they are very hard to get right now. It was fun seeing you demonstrate all the remotes. The whistle and mousepad are very cool. Cheers from the A&JB Railway in sunny Florida.
Hi Joe from Sunny Florida: Thanks for the details in your comment and watching. Yes: Bachmann has a very cool remote system but they are out of production at this time. We had Florida weather today, 91° F today. Take care: Gary 😎

Great video on the remotes. Unfortunately you didn't have the legacy remote witch will run most of the lionel 2.0 lionchief engines. Better than the universal remote. And any of the older tmcc engines. Thank you for posting video.
Good video of the different remotes you can find in the market, today. I would like to have the Lionel Universal Remote one day. Thanks for sharing, Gary. 👍
Nice remote review Gary, I use the MTH DSC App on my tablet for my MTH engines and the Lionel Legacy remote for my TMCC and Legacy engines. I would like to pick up a universal orange remote in the future.
I have been using an iPad with the MTH app. I have a brand new remote and I’m looking at the pages of instructions wondering if I want to learn all of the buttons. It looks like the remote does more but the older I get, the easier I want things to be. 😁
The big question is, does all the mth controllers operate lionel locomotives? Most of my trains are MTH but i also have a few Lionel there all older versions 2.0 some 3.0 but i want to start to use a handheld remote. I dont know much about remotes. Where even to get one
HI Paul: Remotes are a complex issue for 3 rail trains. The MTH will control some of the older Lionel Cab one engines. I would like to suggest, you check out the OGR Forum for help or local train shops. Thanks for watching. Gary. 🚂
While the Lionel remote might remove the "middle man" is only good with Lionel Locomotives I believe, MTH might run them all like the Atlas, Right of Way industries and more. Lionel is good and simple!
Hi from Michigan: MTH has gone out of business. The people who now run the company, as of today's date are no longer making MYTH DCS control system. Thanks for watching 🚂
@@trainroomgary Bummer. Thanks for the quick reply, though! 🙂 I'm thinking of buying some Lionel trains and track was hoping they would work with regular DCC.
So Gary when you have the universal remote or dedicated remote, how is the track being powered? I am just starting so I have need to run multiple trains (kids) so I need a mthz4000 or something?
Hi Montana & Wyoming: My wife is from Ouray Colorado. The track is powered with Lionel Bricks. 18 volts to the track at all times. I have a large layout with 4 mail lines with sidings. One Lionel Brick for each main line. Thanks for watching. 🚂
@@trainroomgary Gary, my wife and I live 2 hours from Montana border in Saskatchewan Canada. I am 27 years in N scale and I have lots of vids on my channel if you want to see scenery. Lionel's Lion chief Plus Baltimore and Ohio 4500 Mikado is the only Lion chief Plus Locomotive I own because I am waiting for Lionel to release a Lionel Lion chief Plus 2.0 Baltimore and Ohio 5300 President Washington Pacific along with matching passenger coaches.
Plus on the bright side I get to save up my money while I wait for Lionel to release a Lion chief Plus 2.0 Baltimore and Ohio 5300 President Washington Pacific.
