So I only been fishing for 2 and half years. I never fish for flounder. I watch your video today... I went to the pier and caught 5 flounder back to back keeper size. Thank you soo much. Brotha.❤❤❤
Headed back to Florida, for the 28th year on vacation....always fish live bait in Fox's Cut at Beverly Beach, from a boat dock..... can't wait to try your rig..... going the first of Aug. For two weeks.....thanks.....tom
Very cool! I haven't fished Florida a lot but I've had ppl from all over use this rig with success. From the east coast to the west, from Finland to south America its pretty cool that fish will bite on it no matter where you're at 🤙🏼
I tried this rig this past Saturday for the first time, and the result was 15 flounder and two keeper. So happy with this rig. Thank you so much for sharing.
Elkton/St. Augustine Fl and the biggest Sheepshead I’ve ever landed was 6.5lbs off the Bridge of Lions fender! Love your channel and thank you for sharing all of the great info
Thanks for an awesome video guys! It's always great to get some local knowledge. This is absolutely one of the best videos I've watched on rigs, flounder, techniques and more.....all done in 15 minutes! Not to mention that y'all show what your talking about....keep up the great work!
Thank you, I appreciate that. I try to keep things simple, honest, and effective on here. I thought 16 minutes was a long video but I'm glad we could help. Thanks for stopping by 🤙🏼
Man that was simple hey I appreciate you guy's with this video really most folks have no idea about how to flounder fish or atless my opinion I shur would like to come fishing with y'all sometime
Super good video. I really get what you are saying and plan on using this information. wish me luck. I am headed down to Galveston in a couple of weeks. Thanks again!
Great informational video! Thanks Ruben and captain Cody. Anchor fishing makes sense. I can relate to this. If you’ve ever waded in debris areas littered with rocks. Releases flounder and watch which direction he goes. A good percentage of the time they will go right up against the debris. If you wanna catch these fish you have to think like them. Or at least I tell myself that lol
You guys have the BEST attitude. So informative! Thank you so much!! Reminds me of my paw paw from Louisiana. I miss fishing with him so much. Thanks dudes!! 👍🏼🙏👌🏼👌🏼
Thanks for the video, I’ve always used a tandem dropper loop rig but will definitely give this a try. It’s an easier rig to tie and I’m liking adding the palomar at the end of loop for more bait action, plus one hook saves on Gulp 👍🏻👍🏻🎣
Awesome, sounds great! Yes tandem are great rigs too but sometimes they don't want to hit the tandem so I'm always ready with this rig & if they're not hitting this rig I'll switch. You have to keep changing it up& see what they want 💯🤙🏼

Lol well thank you sir. I really appreciate that. I try to keep thing light & simple...as far as me being funny I just love to laugh. I laugh at myself the most, which in my mind gives me a pass to laugh at everyone else 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks again🤙🏼
I thought I had every bit of advice and information I needed for gulf flouder fishing, i have notes written down to a science and all the rigs pre tied for when i do go out next to fish them but i guess I'll have to add this single hook rig into the rotation as well. It's really not that different just one hook less and I agree maybe itll save a little money on gulp/curly tails.
This is a great rig to use. Plus sometimes the fish want to see something different so for flounder it's perfect. Toss the single lure, the tandem, and this one... killer! Just great to be able to offer a different presentation
Thanks for watching. Yea its called a chatter weight. They come in very handy for sound & you can use them for any lure. I use them a lot tie them to my main line & my leader line then the I'm using. And in this video we did the same thing tie them to the main line & then tie the rig to the other end. If that makes sense lol. I buy them from Academy but I'm sure you can find them at any sporting good store that sales fishing products. Here's an Amazon link but just so you can see what they are. would you mind showing how you are rigging the gulp on the J hook your suggesting and Im guessing its a 3/0? and are the rattling weights the ones they call Mini's? thank you
The rattles are Texas Rattles I believe I buy them at academy. Just hook the gulp like a regular jig head. Go through the top of the lure & out of it back. Cody likes size 3 hook I started using size 2 & I'm liking it more
Wow excellent info and demonstration in the water. Loved it alot of good info. Have it synced in my brain, now. Will try that set up and going to get some new hooks and 1 oz weights. Thanks both of ya, stay fishing or like Cody said catching
Great video. I have 2 questions for you, when you fishing for flounder and said you want jerk that rod real hard to set the hook but what if a trout has the hook in its mouth and your going to rip that hook right out of its mouth so how can you tell what’s on the other end of your line? Last question, when I’m fishing with this rig do you use live/dead bait or have you used a plastic shrimp bait with this rig?
All good questions, for the most part flounder will give you a slight bump or tap. I slowly raise my rod tip up to feel if it's heavy. And if it is heavy like you're dragging something it's a flounder. I quickly lower my rod tip and reel in my slack line, then quickly set the hook hard and fast. You can use live or dead bait, I like using gulp but any soft plastic works too. I've even used Vudu Shrimp, works great.
Awesome! Glad to help... I've caught hundreds of flounder with this rig since last year. It's a great rig to have tied on, not to say you shouldn't try other setups but this is definitely my go to
To keep the full last longer, I also saw, with the hooks that lock it.... Before you push those points through, you turn the bait then push it through. Them you turn it back the right way and the points will catch fresh gulp
I like to use a similar rig, but instead of a weight at the bottom, I use a bucktail tipped with a soft plastic or Gulp swimming mullet. Good for areas where you don't have to worry about snags. A good percentage of fish will hit the bucktail.
Drop shot rig for halibut or flounder is killer. That’s what I use all day around structures. Sandy bottoms, surf, jetty’s, I use the drop shot rig and lucky craft 110 so minnows
@@TexasAllWaterFishing Alaska halibut fishing…. Boring. It’s like rock fishing. So cal and nor cal is good. Cause just like flounders… they both fight and try to break you off is the fun
I’m not good at flounder fishing by any means, but I have been getting my limit every time at seawolf park. I use a tandem rig with gulp and I don’t jig, I just reel in slowly and that is how I got my flounders all the time.
That's awesome. We still fish with tandem & single rig setups. This offers an additional rig to use. For instance today I was going to fish with a tandem but I couldn't get any thing to bite. I switched to this rig & started fishing faster & caught around 12 flounder. Tight lines & thanks for watching 🤙🏼
very interesting - i learned from old school guys a generation ahead of me that fished the GB system in the 1960's/70's using more of a carolina type set up - i love the way this rig presents the bait - but on first glance I would fear that the 1 oz weight hitting the bottom like that would distract/spook the flounder - but the proof is in the experts so I cant wait to try this!
I thought the same thing, I said aren't you going to hit them in the head lol. I like to use a half ounce mostly with this rig but either way it works. Thanks again 🤙🏼
New to flounder fishing , Definitely gonna give this a try. Any advice on hook size , this could be a question for whom ever reads this to help me out....Thanks in Advance
After a couple of years using this rig, I'd have to say it's extremely effective. I typically use a 2-3 size hook. Keep in mind when fishing if something isn't working change it up. This is my #1 rig for flounder fishing, then I like to tandem if the flounder aren't biting, then single jig head if they still won't bite. Good luck & tight lines
Hey Randy thanks for checking out the video. Right now the jetties are on fire for sheepshead, speckled trout, & red drum. I'm not sure what Cody has going on but the best way to find out is message him on Facebook or email him. Those links are in the description section of this video under Sea Star Base. Thanks Ruben 🤙🏼
I'm not sure, I think is was a DSL but I could be mistaken. He just picked up what was on his desk. Typically we use gulp for that rig, you know flounder love that gulp. Thanks for watching
Just a couple inches but honestly, I tied it one inch, half and inch, maybe even the same length. When the flounder are active, they'll hit it no matter where it's at as long as they can see it. But ideally, I try to keep a couple inches above the sinker.
Thanks! My favorite hands down is Mantis Shrimp, New Penny Chartreuse tail but you go though a lot because they're so soft. As far as swim mullet I like, pink, white, new penny, and chartreuse in that order. Thanks for watching 🤙🏻
Oh sorry, I think that's a Down South Lure we used in the video. But we mostly use gulp swim mullet or shrimp. You can use any lure with the rig you like. Some people have their preferred band & color so what you put on it is up to you. Thanks for watching 🤙🏼
Flounder are located in a staggering variety of environments, and their behavior reflects this. Not only that, but there are other species which will happily take the baits YOU intend for flounder and this needs to be considered as well. I can't imagine that one particular rig is best for ALL flounder fishing.
I will fish for flounder with 3 basic types of Setups and for me this one has worked extremely well. Sometimes they want to see different presentations. But cast vs hook up, this rig is my personal go to. We all have different options of what we like to throw. I have nothing but great feedback from most people after making this video. Of course there's always one person here & there that will disagree with something that's said but that's with everything. Thanks for watching 🤙🏼
This is the kind of rig I was catching flounder on at SWP. What makes the difference is how the hook is tied on. Instead of being right on the line like a typical drop shot its extended a few inches. Perfect for flounder. I use a circle hook, set it hard like he says, and Ive hooked em good every time. Only flounder I've lost was when one ran into the rock while I stopped reeling to get better footing and it snagged me. Listen to the guides/Cap.'s. They know a thing or 2. You'll catch more fish when theyre kind enough to share.
Awesome! In a short time I've been using it it has caught me a lot of fish. I was really surprised how effective it was. I tend to fish at a fast pace being a kayak fisherman. You have to fish fast most of the time due to current & wind pushing while you're trying to fish a stop. So this rig really helps me stay in contact with the bottom. Thanks again & thanks for watching 🤙🏼
I have had people from all over the world use this rig for not just flounder but fluke too. From Alaska to Norway, from the east coast to the west coast. It's pretty amazing to think this rig has helped so many people catch fish from all over the world. But to answer your question yes it will work on flounder down south. I also use it with live shrimp around the jetties for sheepshead, offshore for red snapper, I've caught both black and red drum using it. It's really designed for any fish that are on bottom feeding.
I have never heard of chatter wait, what are they? And I didn't get it quite clear where to put our place that kind of weight on that fishing line rig. Also, is there a certain weight on them chatter weights?
Sorry I responded but it didn't post. A chatter weight is a small weight with a little rattle inside. They're white, some have a red or silver foil sticker wrap. You can buy them at academy or find other brands online. You tie your reel line to it & tie your rig line to the other side, so this acts as a connector.
The weights themselves are pretty light. I use them with live bait, especially in the sure but I also use them with a single or tandem setup. They're very helpful when fishing for reds & specs
Where exactly are you placing the chatter weight ? Is the order; main line, swivel, chatter weight and you tie your rig to the bottom of the chatter weight ?
So I only been fishing for 2 and half years. I never fish for flounder. I watch your video today... I went to the pier and caught 5 flounder back to back keeper size. Thank you soo much. Brotha.❤❤❤

So awesome !!
Thanks!!
Awesome cool…..Fish on
Thanks! Tight lines 🔥💯🤙🏼
I caught most of my flounder on top waters this year while fishing for Reds & Specks. Sucks that Flounder season will be closed next year.
Top water? That's pretty cool, yes closing the season next year is crazy. Thanks for watching
good job -I want to see the 6th sense hold vs regular hook .. do a video
Thanks & thanks for stopping by 🤙🏼
Awesome Video Bro great content. Now I know I’ve been doing it wrong! Thanks fish on!
Thanks I appreciate that, you'll see this is a very effective rig 🤙🏼
Captain Cody, do you tie the hook facing up or does it not make a difference?
He said up & it does make a difference on the hook set. Especially with flounder or fluke because of their bone structured mouths
Ruben hopefully see you Saturday !!
I'll try to make it 🤙🏻
This is the kind of rig I was catching flounder on at SWP.
@@TexasAllWaterFishing I want to get a kayak to fish so bad.
Nice lesson.
Thanks & thanks for watching 🤙🏼
Man I like this. Great job guys!
Thanks bro! We've been trying to make this vid for months now🤣
Texas All Water Fishing well that video was definitely worth the wait!
🤣 I'm glad you thought so
when he was fishing in the pool, did he put a jighead on that rig?
No jig head, we used the rig he tied for the camera
Does this rig work on flounder well down in south Texas in the Laguna Madre area?
I have had people from all over the world use this rig for not just flounder but fluke too. From Alaska to Norway, from the east coast to the west coast. It's pretty amazing to think this rig has helped so many people catch fish from all over the world. But to answer your question yes it will work on flounder down south. I also use it with live shrimp around the jetties for sheepshead, offshore for red snapper, I've caught both black and red drum using it. It's really designed for any fish that are on bottom feeding.
@@TexasAllWaterFishing Great to hear! I appreciate the feedback!
Thanks 👍👍👍

@@TexasAllWaterFishing Thank you for the tip in I will look on Amazon to see what I can find.
Where exactly are you placing the chatter weight ? Is the order; main line, swivel, chatter weight and you tie your rig to the bottom of the chatter weight ?
The chatter weight ties to your main line, I use a chatter weight or a swivel to the main line then the rig
Those are flipping hooks for bass. Good tip.
Yea I wouldn't know, bass hate me lol.
Very informative
Glad it was helpful!
