2023-06-28 - I found your channel scrolled up on my YT feed about a week ago. I am certainly enjoying your videos. The Sheepshead’s really caught my eye. I lived in the town of Sheepshead Bay for my first 18 years. From 1956 - 1975 Sheepshead were there in the bay, however with the storm sewers leeching into the bay from a five mile radius, they just about suddenly disappeared. My friends and I from ‘58 - ‘68 turned our attention to bay flounder. They did not taste good so it was always a catch and release effort. I have one or two questions about your equipment. Trolling motor; I noticed while you were fishing the motor rotated and you did not stray from your position. I was wondering if you have an autopilot setup so you stay on station? Power Pole; I looked this up and really wasn’t satisfied with their description. I also noticed on your boat what appeared to be coax cables at the bottom of the pole. That’s about it for now. Thanks for the great Class A videos.
Great video thanks for the awesome content. Stab those hardheads before throwing them back. They are taking over the bay and have already done a ton of damage in perdido bay. People keep tossing them and they keep multiplying while pulling out specs and flounder...
If you want a truly BIG 'flatfish', you gotta head up to British Columbia, or Alaska. Up there we call em halibut:) My biggest so far, around 475 lbs. Biggest I ever saw was closer to 800, and yes, they can and will kill you given the chance. Also, never try to 'horse' a good sized one into your boat w/o administering adequate 'lead poisoning' first, 12 gauge is best. Since they are almost ALL "Muscle", just flapping around in the boat, they can break legs, and even knock out your transom- don't laugh, I've seen it done (from my boat standing off, watching some inexperienced fellows from Chicago, who came up to catch some "BIG" fish:) After pullling their target aboard, we then watched as they desperately tried to throw him back out :) We fished them out of the water as their rented skiff started sinking, and when we all got back to the lodge...well let me just tell you, I've seen men "drink" before, but THESE guys almost redefined the term :) They went home the following day thankful that the fish didn't get em with his jaws. Halibut up there have teeth that STRONGLY resemble those of a shark:)

Hahahaha...I love how he characterizes a ~19 inch flounder (we call 'em fluke up here) as a "doormat." Not even LEGAL to keep here on Long Island, New York! Up here, "doormat" STARTS at 25 inches! Enjoyed the video very much though!
@@AnthonyAngler well y’all obviously have bigger flounder than we do down south. Just like we rarely see bluefish over 3-4lbs, but on the east coast they catch them all the time 15+lbs

Keep your rod tip down close to the water. Work the bait slow almost dragging it across the bottom. Lightly almost barely twitch the rod tip. This will catch way more flounder. Popping or lifting the rod tip will pickup more trout and reds.
I remember being at Chandeleur probably 25 years ago. We were all fishing mainly cocaho plastics for Specks and before the trip I had bought several bags of off the wall colors. LOL Of course I shared and we tore them up on red when they wouldn't bite any other color.
