The fear of drawing your favourite characters because you don't want to "ruin" them and not doing them justice is so real. I am used to drawing anthropomorphic animals and creatures, I'm such a noob when it comes to human faces... and while I have lots of human characters from shows and games I enjoy and want to draw fanart of, it feels impossible to get started. So, honestly, trying this meme approach might actually help!
If you find any other ways as well to get past it, please share. I'm a beginner and I've only been studying for the most part (though I don't hate it) because I don't wanna butcher my favorite character lol
@@goku_dunker_420 Part of the fun of drawing your favorite characters is to draw them again a year out and see how much better they look now. Can't do that without doing a poorer first try. (Also, the more you draw your favorite character, the more you'll understand how to draw that character)
So Pikat found the Yakuza series, loved it, and went on an insane marathon? Just like the rest of us! 😄 Happy you enjoy that series too. It's truly a special one! Munancho! 🕺
That's fucking Goro Majima as Hatsune Miku in the thumbnail and I haven't watched the video to confirm, because I know him when I see him, even pixilated.
the yakuza intro caught me so off guard in the good way >> also, its kinda crazy bc i had ur exact same problem. for the same fucking series. all for majima.
I was so surprised when she said that, because that's exactly how I got myself to finally do Inktober for the first time in my life last month (well, after 17 days I got too busy but it's still a good run) and I didn't think other people thought like that. Literally just threw a pun or meme at every single word so even if my art sucks, the pun gave in some kind of inherent value. It really worked, took most of the pressure of making/posting bad drawings off, and I just had fun with it. I actually stopped seriously drawing 10 years ago and it lit a flame in me again so I'm happy. Memes are powerful lol
Omg I laughed out loud like crazy when you showed the .."old man with anime girly eyes" at 1:05. Ow man. phew... ty I needed that. Great video. Reallyy REALLY anjoyed it. Love your work. 💙
I'm an artist for 5 yrs or so now, I tend to do realistic semi-realistic stuff, I think you did quite well for your first fanart! I also didn't know about the light grey dark ratio you were talking about around 6:38 many including myself encourage a more intuitive understanding, but I think having a rough guideline or rule like what was mentioned helps! One that I found the most useful is 80/20 rule meaning in every design choice there should be one thing that's prioritized the most and dominates. I've followed your progress for some time, it's great to watch people progress.
pikat - I have to thank you. Ever since I've seen your PewDiePie reaction video, I've gotten into the habbit of drawing every day and that's mostly because you've talked about your approach of "fun-before-dumentals". Also, I love the idea of drawing something that doesn't scare you. That's why I've been drawing nothing but anime girls on paper for the last 16 days. But I was still drawing every day, which is a lot more often than "once in a blue moon" as it was before. Also, your art rocks and seeing you learn new things is honestly inspiring.
I really enjoy how you show us your thought process when trying new art and some personal tips! They help a lot and mannn your artworks are a real treat ^^
this is completely unrelated but i find it funny that right before this video i saw another video of someone drawing miku in big boss clothes from metal gear solid 3.
This turned out really well, and as always was a great listen. You have such a soothing voice and I could listen to you talk all day lol~! Also, really love your little animated self, so cuuute~! Don't think I've mentioned that yet.
Usually when I put in shading, I try to keep shapes in mind and make sure the flat shapes involved are interesting (even as they conform to the form in reality) Also the clothes mostly had the issue of not having dark enough shadows I feel. They were a lot lighter looking than the skin once color came into the picture. I think finding an area where the darkness could be pushed would have helped make them feel more cohesive, but the overall pic came out really good since the form was so well done
Watching you struggle with References, Values and Rendering felt weirdly comforting :D esp. Refernces, I hate them so much. Yes they are good but the process of finding what you need takes so much time and often ruins my motivation for drawing D: So while scrolling through endless pictures I tend to just... open YT or Netflix and that's it.
Everything is stylized, including Renaissance paintings, classical paintings, art by Alex Ross, Caramaggio, among others. "Purely real" realism is these perfect copies of photos that have no aesthetic appeal.
WHAT THE FUCK we're thinking so similar in many ways I wouldn't have guessed. First of all I can't get to like shading, but second I finally could get my ass to do Inktober for more than 2 days this year through... memes. I decided I would troll every single word into puns, and that would give my drawings "inherent value" or something. I usually wouldn't be able to post something that is just really not pretty or good at all, but having a pun in every word gave it some value somehow and appeased my fear of posting shitty drawings. It really helped. I gave up after 17 days due to time constraints but I improved a lot AND, mostly, it made me LIKE drawing again and I'm finally back to drawing from time to time (took me long enough lol). I was not expecting someone to use that strategy as well haha
In the end, whether you are a realistic being, a stylised being, or an edited photo... BEING. You live under the hand of the same superior force, the FUNDAMENTALS and not how to escape this nature.
beautiful. another one to add to the meme collection. i dont think the realism style has nothing to do with drawing real things. its just about making it look well real. most games have a realistic enough style that is close enough imo. the same face syndrome is something i just personally cant ignore. i never really noticed it much with genshin impact because they have so much more diversity else ware. but with, usually, old anime, most faces are drawn the same and the entire thing just feel one note to me. thats why i picked up realism so i can find the nice inbetween that i want because all my old art feels like its missing something.
I don't have a problem with this due to realistic classical arts, in theory a lot of variety... They had idealizations of how to represent the face in a similar way, repeating patterns and for Genshin to have as many characters as they do, it is difficult to maintain constant innovation in all without destroying the characteristic structure and this happens with all styles, perhaps the point is not to vary cultures, bodies and ethnicities, this, plus the endless frantic production of products like Genshin and comics and manga without pause, this is the problem of repeating designs and not the style itself.
I also hate using references! Usually when I draw, I like to put some video in the background and just have fun drawing. However when I need to use a reference, I can only put music in the background (which is okay but I don't always want it) and I need to focus more as well.
I have a little tradition, that every time pikat uploads a new video I open a cold can of coke because that’s how I imagine what your art tastes like :3
Remember when Pikat was reacting to Pewdiepie's video and she said that he was having his boys arc? This is her boys arc, except that it is a single boy, over and over again
I know no one will see this comment but if youre doing realism, the secret to doing really good realism art is drawing the smallest details of the drawing. Like for example, Miku's clothing might have tiny holes in them, the pores of the skin has tiny holes, maybe the character has oily skin or dry, some parts of the hair might be straight or tangled. highlights are important and really dark shadows. I am a fan of realism, it takes a lot of patience to do it, but the process is really fun to do. Realism is like a drawing within a drawing.
If you like miku than you will going to like neuro sama also she's so cute and vedal987 her creator nominate as best vtuber category alongside with dokibird, zentreya, ironmouse ❤
These sponsor segues are so annoying but funny 😂😂😂😂😂 Love the videos btw, but geez I never see the sponsor coming 😂😭😭😭 Edit: the drawing turned out so good 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I need a woman who can marathon all the Yakuza games ( because I sure won't do it myself, I stopped at the third one ). XD See, this is why I'm learning to draw from real life and real people references : it's easier to stylize reality than realitize anime. Realitize is a real word. Realism is boring though, nothing better than a nice artistic style. Also you don't have to make full blown rendered and colored ilustrations, you could make realistic sketches using charcoal brushes, it can be beautiful too.
I could tell by the proportions and shadow areas of the blurred out thumbnail version "if she was gonna draw miku realistic why didn't see choose a cute girl realism reference to make it easier" then the video started and i'm like "ooooooh thats why, she's found the cutest ref of all for the face"
Me seeing the thumbnail: why did she blur Mikus Face, it so easy to see that it’s Miku! Ma watching the vid: wait why is she taking about the Yakusa Games, Mikus not in them Wait…😮
Oof, realism is so hard 😅 and it's time-consuming. Though they always say good things take time. By always, I mean, I actually don't know who said this, but I know it's been said, haha 😂
"I hate using references"
"I hate rendering"
she just like me fr fr
Me too bro, when im using reference i got bored easily, but when im using 200% of my imagination im good lol
Nice icon
when i dont know the words to use to search for the specific item i am looking for i dont use references just because i wanna get to drawing already.
"I hate using references"
"I hate rendering"
"she just like me fr fr"
he just like me fr fr
i hate rendering but references are fun
I think....she likes Yakuza
You don't say
I think she likes Majima
And Miku drawings
I dont know, the signs are not that clear so we can't really tell
WAIT WHAT!!?!?!??!!!!!?!!!?!!???!??!?!?!??!!!!!????!?!?!?!??!!!

Love the Majima and Miku combo. The drawing is more in the semi-realism category but it still slaps! Nice job!
HOW DARE TH-cam HIDE THIS FROM ME FOR 10 SECONDS!!!!!!!!!🙄🙄🙄🙄
So Pikat found the Yakuza series, loved it, and went on an insane marathon? Just like the rest of us! 😄
Happy you enjoy that series too. It's truly a special one!
Munancho! 🕺
I never knew i needed this but now i know
Your art is PERFECT for Yakuza fanart, genuinely mean it
That's fucking Goro Majima as Hatsune Miku in the thumbnail and I haven't watched the video to confirm, because I know him when I see him, even pixilated.
Maining a half-realism style like in this Miku Majima illustration is the best imo. You can literally draw either Yakuza or Genshin characters
sis really goes "I think it's not too terrible" and proceeds to show us the most beautiful majima artwork out there
the yakuza intro caught me so off guard in the good way >> also, its kinda crazy bc i had ur exact same problem. for the same fucking series. all for majima.
hide art behind meme sound like a good idea 😂
I was so surprised when she said that, because that's exactly how I got myself to finally do Inktober for the first time in my life last month (well, after 17 days I got too busy but it's still a good run) and I didn't think other people thought like that. Damn, haven't watched any of your vids in a while and the quality of your avatar's anims suddenly gon cray. Dig it.
9:10 REAL! I feel so seen and recognized! They help, but MAN does it suck using them!
I mean you were drawing Yakuza characters, so I think "stylized realism" is a valid style to land on for them.
Yes, in the end everything for have a Stilization.
Except photo copys without art appeals.
I love the way you explain your process
i really liked the editing in this video compared to the last one! :D cool video thank you!
pikat - I have to thank you. Ever since I've seen your PewDiePie reaction video, I've gotten into the habbit of drawing every day and that's mostly because you've talked about your approach of "fun-before-dumentals". 🤝 us learning how to draw better because of our need to draw yakuza fan art
Thanks for sharing your process and being vulnerable! It looks great
this is really good for your first illustration in this style! love the meme method 😆
I really enjoy how you show us your thought process when trying new art and some personal tips! They help a lot and mannn your artworks are a real treat ^^
this channel is so goated
I thought you was gonna make a realist miku, but this is better. Sick Pikat!
I learned drawing manga after learn realism, so i have so much dificulty drawing anime faces :v
I am too learning to draw realism
You didnt have problem if you manga material study is Ryoichi Ikegami.
And realises that is very close manga and "realism".
this is completely unrelated but i find it funny that right before this video i saw another video of someone drawing miku in big boss clothes from metal gear solid 3.
9:30 LITERALLY MY PROBLEM. I Don't like to switch tabs and search for the perfect references for hours. It's a damn pain in the a$$. 🙂
Coloring and rendering are my favorite part
Thanks Pikat. Now I have to watch the Majima Cinderella video on loop for a few hours. THANKS A BUNCH!
This turned out really well, and as always was a great listen. You have such a soothing voice and I could listen to you talk all day lol~!
Also, really love your little animated self, so cuuute~! Don't think I've mentioned that yet.
The best self animated of internet.

So real, I love using references but I hate having to look for references. Its so easy to waste so much time with it and end up not drawing anything.
Please do more of this
For once am glad to get your vids fresh off the Pikat Oven
Gotta love when Pikat uploads a video about drawing realism two days after you decide to do the exact same thing, also with Majima lmao
the end result actually reminds me alot of gta art! especially the way you rendered it.
This has been an exercise in trusting the process~! Well done!
What do you mean Majima isn't an anime girl?
KIRYYUUUU-CHAAAAN
I’m always happy to watch ur videos! U continue to motivate me and push my perfection, which help a lot to draw more! 💪🔥
Yay!! Always a good day when pikat uploads🎉
GUYS ITS HATUNE MIKE!!
Beautiful fanart btw ❤
this inspires me in ways immeasurable
Gorgeous ❤
thanks pikat for the cooking !!
Here's a secret: everything is always stylized. Its hard af to get ACTUAL realism and theres a reason most people dont even bother
Especially in animation you need to exaggerate or it looks off.
Also stylizing something is how you get your signature look 😊
Everything is stylized, including Renaissance paintings, classical paintings, art by Alex Ross, Caramaggio, among others. "Purely real" realism is these perfect copies of photos that have no aesthetic appeal.

This style is semi-realism
It is alarmingly easy to trick your own mind into hearing "Miku dayo" being said in Majima's voice...
Semi-realism❤ yay that's my style❤🎉
yk what.. HELL YEAH
Skillshare doesn’t want me -_-) tried using it and they won’t allow me to log in…I tried man 😓.
Awesome video!
7:33 the animation from her stream :0
4:26 the short stare ⁉️
what did you do to clodsire in 1:55
Me seeing the thumbnail: why did she blur Mikus Face, it so easy to see that it’s Miku!

Wait…😮
I’m gonna start asking what you’re practicing when I see your meme drawings now (I may be evil ;3)
