- The City of Peterborough is about to open 50 tiny homes for people experiencing homelessness. Could Toronto see similar homes? Nick Westoll reports.

Well done. Housing people is way cheaper than dealing with all the problems of a homeless population.
Kudos to Peterborough. Always cheaper in the long run to try and tackle the problem than deal with all the other issues and costs of ignoring it.
This isn't temporary or transitional, this is the new norm.

Amazing how this municipal government can get this done. Where the provincial, and federal can't get it together.
Definitely worth a shot. Other cities will be watching how this goes.
I wish other cities would implement this. It would solve so many problems right now. Toronto won't be able to get this done as bureaucracy will keep this tied up for years.
Toronto has to do a study. What does that mean? Politicians have to go outside and open their eyes?
We need tons of more tiny homes.

An option they could have done is look at other provinces and cities like Calgary or Edmonton models for big city populations to work on housing individuals.. and they have never done this as well.
City News actual leaves the city to go east of gta.. must have been a slow day news wise in Toronto. Only time city news does a report about Peterborough is if some falls through the ice on rice lake as the majority of the time its someone from the city of Toronto this happens to unfortunately.
Wishing the city of Peterborough success with these tiny homes for people in need with the wrap around supports people may need and may be able to access faster.. And for the complete city of Peterborough and residence for this to be successful.
Used trailer homes go for next to nothing, maybe try spraying them with insulating foam.

It’s a good idea, but I doubt it will be transitional.
Kitchener has been doing this for awhile now. Supplying 24/7 security, running water in the bathrooms, hot showers, medical van on standby, hydro, refuse cleanup, some areas are fenced in as well Enjoy the pristine look while it lasts, which won't be long
Do you know if there's rampant drug use in them? That's the problem here
they need these tiny home in every city

ODSP shelter allowance is $500/month. Ppl are paying $500 per month for that?!

Easy builds,low risk of fire catching to other units.There is going to be a long wait 4 any affordable housing esp.if ppl are on o.d.s.p.,it won't be available in their lifetime.Petition ur cities,ask ur mps.

The homeless people in Peterborough are not from Peyerrborough. Everyone knows they are migrating from Durham Region and Quinte West Belleville and Trenton. The city has to be open to helping folks that are indigenous to Peterborough wether they be from any background . Criminals and addicts should be arrested for crimes and ordered back to thier last known residence . Usually Oshawa or Belleville Trenton

Cannot wait to see the homes' condition after 1 month of tenancy. Theyll be temporary disposable houses, trashed.
MIght be a bit of that. Most homeless people would be happy for an opportunity to get one of these, and would be incented to follow the rules. And another huge chunk of homeless aren't crazy at all, just down on their luck....they wouldn't trash them under any circumstance. If you went and meet some homeless people, you'd get a feel for what they're really like. All kinds out there on the street.

I think you have the right idea, but you are in my opinion extreamly cheap, everybody needs their own wash room, and it's a sanitary issue, because some people might have illnesses they dont know about, and it might infect the entier comunitys population.

OMGG why hasn't Toronto/GTA started this type of initiative yet? Tiny homes is so the temp solution that could transition into permanent housing! Please replicate Toronto Hurry up ... its sad now !
because that would ATTRACT people from all over the place. the same reason it isn't done in Victoria, BC even thought the place on ALL govt. levels is all Lefties. don't want the issue in their backyard, OR the entire Van. Island.
How we got to this point is called the Cantillon effect. The way money is being created benefits investors instead of workers. The people who get newly created money first enjoy it purchasing power before it declines from inflation, people who own inflationary assets like real estate benefit from the inflation. This is making Canada very inequitable. Anyone who can do math can see also then that working is for suckers in this system. This is not a good system, it will collapse on itself. More and more people are giving up and quitting becoming homeless because they have rationalized that working isn’t worth it. Maybe they can’t articulate why, but they have a feeling it just isn’t paying off.
