@@1986Unlimited let's say you spend 1k a month on rent, then you have >1k a month for other expenses, sure it's not ideal but it's not even close to impossible to live relatively comfortably on $2000 a month in Toronto.

@@pex3 And where are these places? Jane and Finch? Show me those listings you've seen for 1000k and keep in mind people have to also spend on utilities for those places, food, medicine, commuting, telecom, and still have savings tucked away for emergencies. Unless they have help, most people cannot make it in Downtown Toronto with a monthly net income of 2000K.

Toronto costs as much as NYC but, just does not have the same vibrancy. Toronto has priced out workers too. Paramedic? Teacher? Nurse? If you don’t have family in Toronto DO NOT MOVE THERE. Hey! Not the uploader but I have spent decades in Toronto. As a general rule, I think the better question is to figure out which neighbourhoods are less safe, since most neighbourhoods are generally safe and family friendly. Since that campus is in a pretty remote location compared to downtown, I'd suggest doing some research about the neighbourhoods that are nearby to the campus and basing a decision on that.

It's not a great idea to live in Toronto period. You need $2 million for the average small home, $2300 a month rent for the aver 1 bedroom apartment ($4000 a month 2 bedroom condo) and earn $120,000 a year minimum to live comfortable. But you come. Come and see.

The benefits of living in TO are not any better than other cities. She's out of her mind if she thinks 40k/year will cut it. I was making the equivalent of that for 18 years and struggled to survive in roach infested s-holes. All I did is exist. I had no money to do anything despite living very conservatively. Good jobs are very hard to find. I finally gave up and left. My luck started changing as soon as I left. Forget about making enough to raise a family here. It will be impossible to save enough to buy even a crappy dwelling. On top of that the "woke" atmosphere and Liberal domination of the province makes it very unappealing. The best advice I can give any young person is to head west. There is nothing for you in Toronto. I only wish I made the move years earlier than I did.
