@@TheTongo11 i just started mine, and i have to say it really isn't that hard one u get the hang of it, then again i have yet to fight kraid or Ridley so who knows XD. the difficulty imo comes from not having a map and not knowing here all the secrets are, i would of never known about that e tank in kraids room had i not seen it in this video.
I’ve been practicing the mother brain room just for fun and it was fairly difficult to consistently survive even with the varia suit, 3 E tanks, and 100 missiles. And when I do, it’s an unchoreographed mess. The fact that he can almost flawlessly execute those unroll jumps and avoid almost all damage with no missiles to spare, on the spot, with a crowd watching is fucking amazing to me. I used to speed run pre-2004 but these kids now are other worldly. Tip of the hat to you, Mcfly.
@@ChromeCobra420 Doesn’t sound that farfetched to me. Kids didn’t know better, and on top of that the internet wasn’t in most households yet, so information about how to beat the game wasn’t available without a subscription to Nintendo Power and unless you happened to know someone who beat the game you’d have no idea if it truly ends or not.
I never played this as a kid, but I bought an NES Classic a few years ago and I decided to check out Metroid. This was the very first one I ever played. On an original NES, I would NEVER have beaten it. With save states on the NES Classic, though, I was able to pull it off. I still had to rely on an online map, look up how to open the red doors (again, my very first Metroid game), and died SO many times. It took me a couple weeks to get through it. And this guy beat the game in 11 minutes.
This game is hard and Mother Brain's room is a nightmare. Took me forever to beat the game with save states, I don't think it's unfair for password based games. Good Job! :)
Oh, the memories! I put this game on layaway and bought this game with allowance money. Every moment of this game was something I savored. The first time I killed Mother Brain I was so excited that I didn't see the count down timer begin. Then I was so shaky trying to jump up on those little platforms that I fell, and fell, and fell...hahah...
Does anyone know what would happen/where would you end up, if you did the door glitch/screen wrap in the door in the vertical escape shaft? (11:57) Would it work? Would it take you back into Brinstar? Lock the game? Has anyone tried it?
Yeah, you can't screenwrap there, but the funny thing is that Mother Brain's room is only about 3 screens or so directly above the morph ball area in terms of the game's map layout.
I would love to learn how to jump through the top of the screen to go under using the door. Been trying to figure it out, but there aren't any how-to videos on TH-cam as far as I know. Any tips? Links?
Anyone know if there's a way to get the initial rinka pattern consistent when entering the mother brain room in order to try and pull off the quick pacing through the Zebetites that McFly does in this vid? Seems when I'm running it the 3 rinkas spawn in different places when I first enter that room.
Was the pause before entering the Mother Brain chamber intentional or just a pause before the storm? Just wondering if there's an audio queue in the music that sets up the cannons/rinkas/etc?
He's about to do something incredibly difficult to do with a huge live audience and probably 100k people watching on Twitch. Since this isn't pb attempts or anything he was likely just taking a moment to collect himself.
Most likely meant the time bomb at the end of most games. Basically, after you defeat mother brain in each game, a time bomb is set and you have to escape before the planet blows up
He's not doing PB attempts, it's a marathon exhibition of a game. His best time was like two minutes better than this time. He was about to do something incredibly hard with a huge audience watching, with no backups available. He was likely just collecting himself for a moment.
Now do it again (replays video ten more times) ... ... ... .... .. ... .. ... .. Wow, I watched it ten times and I still can't believe I wasted an hour of my time.
And that's why Ridley is still alive.
This observation deserves more respect.
Her mission didn't include Ridley.
Ridley is just a fan of metal I guess, he didn't need it but who am I to judge
LOL AMEN
Canon.
I've had trips to 7-11 that took longer than this.
Speechless... he completed a game that is hard as nails in 11 minutes with basically no items. Applause!
Video games back then did not fuck around.
25 years later I'm close to completing my first play through
Metroid 1 on the NES isn't that hard if u know how to avoid al of the enemies/farm energy and missiles at every oppertunity

Props to the runner and couch guys for being relatively animated despite the early morning time slot.

He's using a mid air double jump trick, turbo missal fire, and other little cheats.
The rhythm of those missile shots in the final room is satisfying as hell
Metroidmcfly: kill the mini-bosses, get 75 missles...
Kraid: Am I a joke to you?
Basically, yeah.
Nope, you're just a missle piñata.
Pray for a true peace in space!

Back when this game came out for a long time it was considered “unbeatable” by many.

Back to back flawless runs. Forget the run, GREAT MARATHON FLY!
Months of work as a kid to complete this. Finished in the time it takes to take a dump.

I personally don’t think it’s unfair if you save state at the start of each area (aka where it puts you after giving you the password)
Making a save state on the game over screen can hardly be considered cheating by anyone; the only thing you're skipping is punching in a passcode.
picking up morth ball 2 e tanks and ice beam
i didn't expect this to be possible
The 8 year old me would watch this in utter disbelief.
Congratulations on the run, sorry I couldn't make it for the live, but making good on my promise McFly, great job on SK!
@7:19 I'll admit, I lost it at Morphee Brown.
Tardo más en ir a comprar un paste aquí a la vuelta de mi casa, que lo que tarda este tipo en terminar Metroid.
Impresionante.
He had some just epic runs at this SGDQ. Way to go, Mcfly!
Holy fucking shit! An 11 min Metroid run? Fantastic!
That was amazing. Great run!

Ho. Lee. Shit. That missile management at the end.
I had this on but I was passed out, glad to revisit it
Thank you Samus
absolute legend
That's the greatest thing I've ever saw on Metroid one
That was awesome!
I clicked on Arco doing a speed run in 19 minutes. I said, "No way. I gotta watch this!" Now this guy does it in 11?! HOLY SHIT!!
SO clutch. Amazing performance here.
Nice! metroidmcfly did a splendid job!
Madness, amazing run
My word. That was amazing!!!
Awesome run 😃😊
Wow, that was intense! Awesome run!
Oh come-on it's a game I never managed to finish and he scraps it in 11mins!
Hell I was so tense in the last boss room just watching!
Sensational!! I used to love this game!
Great job!!
My entire childhood in ten minutes! 😂
That escape 🔥🔥🔥🔥👍
Samus is still a knockout after all these years. Beautiful run.
Great run!

There are no doors there. You need to beat mother brain beat the game, also

Absolutely amazing.
MORPHY BROWN.
That was BEAUTIFUL 😍
Insane
Welcome done good sir! 😁
incredible
metroidmcfly showing why he's an absolute legend
In 11 minutes I just got lost.
MetroidMcFly just MetroidMcFlew through it! Too obvious or just right?
Metroid McMetroidy
That was fuckin' craaaaaaaazy
Awesome!
Masterful
5:07 sounds like a joke from "Nintendo Power" magazine
Very nice 👍🏽
Alter Schwede! Beeindruckend!
I like the commentary
I know Metroid. I know Murphy Brown. I am dying from pain.
I wasn't Ridley for those bad puns
I would love to learn how to jump through the top of the screen to go under using the door. Been trying to figure it out, but there aren't any how-to videos on TH-cam as far as I know. Any tips? Links?
I believe you have to mash up and down rapidly, but I'm not sure.
wow that was god tier. Almost like a TAS

This run lacks orbs
You get weapons from orbs and the main character transforms into one.
THE FIRST ITEM IS AN ORB!!! WHAT NONSENSE!! IM GOING TO MY ANGRY ROOM!!
3 people. I know Murphy Brown and Metroid.
Was the pause before entering the Mother Brain chamber intentional or just a pause before the storm? Just wondering if there's an audio queue in the music that sets up the cannons/rinkas/etc?
I think he sacrificed a few seconds because he knew he was at record breaking pace and needed to calm down a bit.
He's about to do something incredibly difficult to do with a huge live audience and probably 100k people watching on Twitch. Since this isn't pb attempts or anything he was likely just taking a moment to collect himself.
Geez, I used to think I was good at this game. Lol
I remember watching Murphy Brown. Never "Morphy Brown" tho...
Morphy Brown is terrible and I love it.
Yeah, I've tried jumping in mid air like that. It doesn't work for me. He must be really really really skilled.......
Cool
Holy shit ... that was awesome .. my favorite game growing up .. kid icarus next
Damn
7:13 you guys need to be a little more VARIA-ble with that punchline
wait he used a glitch?
What did he mean by the joke "out of time"?
Only thing I can think of would be how there's usually a countdown escape in the games (at least the ones I have played).
Most likely meant the time bomb at the end of most games. Basically, after you defeat mother brain in each game, a time bomb is set and you have to escape before the planet blows up
God I remember beating game like twice just to get female costume
Hype

Orb!
Ok
the subway joke is a metro id which when u put them together spells metroid, or at least that is what i assume is the joke
Why does this run not appear on any record tracking sites? The 11:26.4 time is well within the top 10 times for an any% run.
