People say they want macOs on ipad because we are tired of ipadOs being so restrictive.... But all we want is the ipad to stop simplifying everything to the point of being frustrating just to do basic things.. I mean is progress for file transfers asking too much 😡😡
Right! Just make iPadOS better! So much unrealized potential. I wish Apple would make it more of a priority.
The best thing is for Apple to allow people to choose what OS they want.
fair point but there is a progress bar for file transfers though
@@aylee_bI thought so too
I just want to run TVPaint and Maya and blender on my iPad.
Back in 2018 I took a leap as an art student and sold my Intel MacBook Pro so I could get an iPad Pro 12”. The difference was night and day and I began telling all my friends to make the jump themselves. Fast forward to my graduation three years later and I didn’t have a choice-I had to shift to an M1 iMac + pen display (Cintiq Pro 24) setup because it’s just so much more efficient and professional. I will always miss those simple iPad Pro days though
This basically confirms the experience I have had with my iPad Pro for years: even though it is amazing that so many things are possible, there always seem to be hurdles along the way, like layer limits because of memory, lack of file management, cumbersome multitasking between apps and just having a rather small screen to work with... It is an amazing device, but every time I need to use it for a more complicated job, I am so glad I can switch to desktop, as it is just more confortable and efficient.
Exactly, you can do stuff with the iPad Pro.... but that is *despite its OS* not because of it.
The problem is that when I point out that all the macOS on iPad flexors stay quiet, 99% of iPads out there have only 8GB or less! So, do you think MacOS on iPads would be anything other than awful? Remember that every 8GB MB Air review from creators claims that 8GB is a travesty of justice!
The reality and Apple confirms this, is that an iPad is a complementary device for pro users; it is not a de facto replacement. And let's be straight: IT NEVER WILL REPLACE MACOS FOR PROS WANTING DESKTOP APPS.
@@andyH_England Indeed, although there some "believers" that swear they can edit video/pictures just like in their desktops.
Even ignoring the RAM limitations, just the lack of proper mouse support makes that platitude a hard sell for people that enjoy the precision and productivity boost an actual mouse pointer provides.
Then we have the laughable windowing support that doesn't even allow you to leverage your monitor's real state and limit you to a handful of monitors just to look anything but blurry.
All of them, anti-consumer handicaps imposed by Apple just to up sell you to other products =S
M1 or 2 Mac mini 16gb + 16” kanvas pro 2.5k = $1250-$1500
Less if you buy used
M1 16gb + 16” kanvas pro 2.5k = $1100-$1300
That’s looking really tempting
Nomad sculpt looks awesome. Checking this out
It's VERY cool!
It’s a great app. ZBrush coming for iPad later too.
@thebradcolbow I have a question: I want to get a 13inch iPad air 512gb but I want to hard-core nomad sculpt. Is the iPad air 13inch strong enough for that even though it has 8gb ram?
@@loveArtnotFoodi know you didn’t ask me, but I personally wouldn’t recommend less than the 1TB Pro as, while I’ve had generally not had issues with 8 GB ram, my 12.9” 512 GB Pro with 8 GB of ram has had issues of force closing Procreate on me while I was working. I would imagine if Procreate can be too much for 8 GB ram then hardcore Nomad would also face similar bottlenecks.
@@loveArtnotFood even with old iPads released after 2020 nomad sculpt works fine (even in my 2017 iPad Pro nomad sculpt is manageable), but having the iPad Pro M4 with 1TB & 16GB ram surely will give you the best that iPad can offer handling Nomad sculpt 3D modeling.
I just recently found nomad sculpt for on my Samsung tab9. I'm really surprised how fast it is and how little it actually drained my battery. I was able to go for about one and a half hours and lost only 5% of my battery life. It's really insane, I'm looking forward to your videos on it.
Very thoughtful review as always, Thanks! Regarding the rating requests you can you can disable them in settings > App store > in-app Ratings and reviews (turn off)
Thanks bro =)
Thank you so much!
20:41 Settings -> App Store -> Turn off In-App Ratings & Reviews
Amazing! The problem the Brad is he’ll never see this and continue to live in turmoil because he never checks comments lol.
I have the basket locked and loaded…. I keep hovering over the order button, it’d replace my 2018 iPad Pro I’ve had for well over 5 years now.
😅
What I do is just don't download the Google Docs app. It won't auto open in the app, and the Safari experience is so much better. 21:23
The same here. I do that for TH-cam and Twitter as well. They all work better on Safari and consume about 33% less power. You have to have the time to experiment and find solutions. Then, it is possible to do about 80-90% of my work on an iPad, and I finish it off on my Mac.
In settings on the iPad under the App Store section you can turn off reviews, I’ve done this from the start and honestly even forgot that apps can ask for reviews 😅
The iPad Pro has been my travel computer for years now. It does focused computing very well. If you need to do a couple things at once it’s serviceable. When you want to do several things at once it’s cumbersome. I have a M1 iMac at home to finish most of my projects. Personally I like finished file delivery on MacOS most.
Thanks for the review. Answered my exact questions regarding iPad Pro. How do you feel 2024 iPad Pro vs Kamvas Studio 16? - which is what I have now. Cons-HD screen ratio and weight:(
As for the files I have a great solution for you.: Resilio sync.
Ive been using it for years and recently discovered the iPad version (had no idea it existed) and it works great. Esp with full desktop iPad apps like Clip Studio. I also use it with Affinity suite. I have 5 machines, PC, NAS, Mac Mini, Kamvas Studio, iPad all syncing same folders and files. I Don’t have to deal with the file app anymore really and with selective sync on- Resilio pulls/downloads the file only when you use it. Only issue is you have to open the app when you start and finish to make sure iPad fully syncs. Can’t run in the “background”.
Thanks again for the great channel.
7:59 Brad! The nano texture is for glare reduction. No where intended to be paper-like.
Didn’t Apple say the nano texture was also for artists to get a more grippy texture when drawing?
Several tech reviewers have said this
Most reviewers actually claim that it‘s like a paperlike protector. Which doesn’t match my experience, either.
If you haven't seen Snazzy Labs' latest video, it does a good job of explaining what it really means for Apple to have failed to make the iPad Pro live up to its name. So many bugs, so many half-baked features.
I just watched that this morning. He does do a great job walking through a lot of the problems, especially with Stage manager. I never cared for it, but I never stopped to think of why.
@@thebradcolbowHey Brad.
I think the iPad Pro IS Pro for artists. It always has been. The 2018 iPad Pro improved on it and the M1 is perfect for any artist with it’s RAM to handle enough layers in Procreate. And this new iPad just improves on the experience.
But for other professionals, why buy an iPad while the Mac does almost everything better? Like photo /video editing…
@@thebradcolbow also, you can turn off in-app review requests in Settings -> App Store -> In-App Ratings and Reviews
@@thebradcolbow TH-cam keeps deleting my comments. You can disable the annoying popups in apps in the Settings -> App Store area. I can't say the words for the setting without getting deleted.
@@goudendynamiethd2117Oh please, it shouldn't be strictly for artist. Its hardware is as good as a Mac and Apple claimed it can be a laptop replacement.
It has so much potential, keeping it strictly to one demographic is a waste.
My iPad Pro 4 (2022) arrived today and I am so happy to be back on Procreate. I used to draw on an old basic iPad with the first gen Apple Pencil. I moved on to a Galaxy Tab S6 Lite some time ago and I just couldn’t stand any other art app, except Autodesk Sketchbook which was not exactly perfect. And it turns out I have to get used to the procreate interface again. I’m still double tapping the corner to undo. And it turns out that 5 coffees a day, smoking and not having drawn anything all school year, had a devastating effect on my hands and whatever little skill I used to have. Fortunately summer vacation is starting and I’ll have more time to practice.
should i be worried about burn in issues with ipad pro's oled screen?
TLDR version:
YES: The iPad Pro can replace your Mac computer
BUT: iPadOS
The alzamonart cut
btw for sidecar you can use usb c so it will not be laggy but it still will be 60 fps limit
Does it work as well as a Cintiq when using the cord?
@@bs7916 except cursor tracking, yeah
i use 20:35 adapterd, usbc and lightning, for my headphone and old school ear thingies.
In Huion or Wacom there is 7:03 some thing as the barrels Feature and the other new ones, or that kind of characteristics are excusively on iPad¿
hm this seems just perfect for me. was stillt using ipad 7th gen for procreate and now i really want to go for the new Ipad Pro for Drawing, 2D Animation and Sculpting. Excited for Zbrush!
Things outside Creative apps suck on the iPad OS Brad
Nobody gonna mention that apple pencil pro has horrible wobbly line while doing diagonal line?
I recently bought Ipad pro 13 m4, with pencil pro, the pencil pro has horrible wobbly line doing any diagonal line, unless you put the stabilization to max setting that make everything super slow and even that still have wobbly line if you draw it slowly
Brad, really off topic, but I was wondering if there’s somewhere I can find the comics you are always drawing in your examples? Thanks.
I guess getting a good quality display tablet to use with your mac is a good compromise for people who just want the touch n stylus feature occasionally on mac
How many storage is enough for an artist who draw comics a lot
Did you need the magik keyboard for this workflow? Would it be as easy to switch with just a Bluetooth keyboard and a mouse?
How did you do the lines of comic pages?
My issue is that if i want to migrate my clipstudio paint project to my ipad, i cant unless i pay a subscription to use clipstudio on my ipad. I hate that, and that is one of the main reasons why i would prefer if they had an option to run Mac OS on the ipad.
Yes, I want a Mac that can do all the Surface Laptop Studio can do. That really would be the ticket. Heck, I would be happy with a Mac that can do all that a Surface Pro can do. One major annoyance with the iPad Pro. It cannot format my DAS. Disk manager of MacOS is not available on the iPad OS. Also, file management can be done but is clunky. Just make it efficient like with MacOS. Also, I use Rebelle a lot. It works fine on MacOS. No Rebelle app on iPad OS. I have used the iPad Pro with sidecar as a drawing tablet with my Mac mini but it is lagy and clunky and annoying. I would just use my Huion. Another annoying issue and it may be just me but I totally hate the lack of Save As in Procreate. Ditto for other iPad OS sketching apps.
Duplicate file kinda does that Save As thing.
@@sloppynyuszi Yes I know it is just that it is an extra step (actually 2 extra steps is one wants to get technical). Annoying.
@@4thNebulaexcept it’s one step. Open procreate and duplicate the the file
Yeah I don’t need macOS on iPad. Just a couple features that iPadOS lacks. That’s it.
So buy a Surface Laptop instead of dreaming about a mac that's like it... problem solved.
I watch your channel since 2018 and I reaaaaaly appreciate all the work you do here. Your experience helped me with my work and my personal progress as a professional ❤ Go on!
THANX! For Ur always honesty and that 'xtra' about the "slowing of the workflow" aspect, it's real.
Can Nomad Sculpt run well on 8 GB M4 or M2 Chip? I have a very old ipad. Does new ipad allow us to place a mp4 file in the exact location where we wanted and allow it to be read from related apps just fine? I remember I have to keep 2 copy of mp4 file in my windows computer. 1 file in movie folder that i know and I have to import it into itune apps in my pc and it will be located somewhere unknown in my pc itune library. The location of the mp4 file in my old ipad is aslo unknown...
Nomad works well on both cases. Also for the files, yes, if the app allows it.
Nomad runs great on my m1 8gb ipad. Very well optimized
Yep. Nomad Sculpt and Valence 3D (CAD). See Dave Reed and Above Wongart. Both pro creatives but eith slightly different paths. Both getting into printing or using creations in other types of art programs.
“they want a touch screen mac” bang on in my view. I use my m1 mac mini plus a widescreen for work. Everything else is on the m4 ipad pro - specifically procreate/fresco. The ipad is my main device and i dont regret updating from a 2018 ipad😎
I thought u could have two instances of the same app, ie Google doc open - so more than one doc opened simultaneously... Also if there's a web version (like for ytb) sometimes it works better than the app on ipad for multitasking purposes
the fact that I can't backup procreate files easily because the Files app creates temp double copy of EVERYTHING (aka you need double the amount of free space to just backup to smth else) is ridiculous. I think ther'es like 5 small QOF changes that would just. make all the difference.
08:20 can you be little more specific about vector drawing dimensions sir
Thank you for the review, great as always. Mind sharing your flamingo wallpaper?
Not Apple and not even art related but i replaced my work laptop with a tablet this year. Tablet is now perfectly useable for work.
100% agree with a lot of the comments here. i would be alright with using only my ipad for everything- yet i cant because a lot of apps like photoshop are missing so many features in ipadOS that it is not - on its own - usable in a professional context. even thought the apple silicon chip could easily handle a full photoshop version running. i guess they somehow need to keep some differences between macOS and ipadOS to sell more products. i had to get a full laptop that i only use for my course work because of that, which was super frustrating because now i have to bring my laptop and a separate pen tablet to class instead of just one, more convenient ipad. sure, you can use sidecar- but its too wonky to do illustrations. writing essays- doable until you have to add a footnote or add formatting, then forget it. 500GB of storage? sure but good luck finding/ organizing your files. it can get 80% of your work done but those 20% that are lacking usually are so integral that it is not usable solely on its own.
The squeeze feels like what they wanted double tap to be
Where is blender app on iPad ?
Can’t see it on App Store
Latency on sidecar? I just have to say that the iPad Pro (I have a M1) on side car with the MacBook Pro M3 works wonderfully. no latency. the only thing I witnessed was just a slight difference in pressure sensitivity but that's easy to solve by recalibrating it. I was using Clip Studio on the iPad and upgraded my Surface Book 2 (Never buy one, it's BAAAAD) to an m3, now I'm running CSP there and using the full screen of the iPad to draw. It's a perfect setup for me
For me, I don't want a touchscreen Mac. The iPad is supposed to *be* the touchscreen Mac. The problem stopping you from using it like that is not just missing features (most of which Apple won't provide or are provided by third parties unwilling to rewrite their apps for touch) but also just outright bugginess.
The mouse support was added like 4 years ago and it still has problems with smaller controls, like the PiP window just doesn't let you click the maximize button because the OS doesn't know if it should snap you to that or to the resize control right next to it. Files is *at best* tolerable if you use iCloud, annoyingly limited if you're a Dropbox user like me, and unusable if you have all your files on an SMB share.
Seriously, the SMB support has a habit of locking up whatever daemon handles containerized file management on iPadOS, so force-quitting Files doesn't help, and you can't reboot daemons on iPadOS, so you have to reboot the whole damned iPad whenever this happens.
also it'd be really, *really* funny if Animate got ported to iPad, because it's literally just rebranded Flash.
9:10 Canva actually bought out Affinity now, funny enough
I just got my iPad few days back. And the only issue I have is the writing function with the Pen on Notes. It’s mad frustrating.
….iPads don’t have multi sound sources and still shut down file transfers if you swap apps despite the ram being there to handle the background processes
Excellent well-balanced review. In fact, it's an actual review, a rarety in this day and age.
was half expecting 4:3 aspect ratio Brad lmao.
That would be perfect as it is the iPad Pro 13” ratio. Full screen iPad review!!!!
Gahhh, I totally should have done that!
Why can't all apps just save/open files to the iCloud directory, file management is such a clart-on on the IPad. Then all my work would be all synced to my PC automatically.
that is exactly what I do on my ipad and laptop
18:40 i hate file management on iPad.
Couldn't find Blender for iPad.
Blender not yet available for iPad.
Yes the iPhoto does my head in when it wants to manage all of the images and videos... I wish i could uninstall it and have a better finder.
I don't think Mac OS would work well on iPad, we all know what happened with the windows mobile devices that ran a full version on Windows OS. iPad OS need to be revamped but not replaced with MacOS.
I wonder why everyone hates windows 8 but wants Mac on iPad. I think it’s that we gave up on apple nailing iPadOS and making it something more than large iOS
I use my iPad Pro 2018 for almost everything every day usage can through at it. But a free times a year I have to pull out my old nearly retired MacBook Air 2015. Like Wendi get a new datacard for my old camera, that I need to formate before the first use. Or when my internet provider send me a new modem, that needs a computer to be set up. The Mac book is old, there haven‘t been updates for a few years, but for this situation, it’s a good campanion. Right now, I don‘t see a need to purchase a new MacBook. Or a new iPad. If my Pro breaks down, I probably go with the air m2.
can there be an artist review on the lenovo m11? im thinking of buying it but im scared of the screen not being too bright
Any overheating issues?
Hello Brad! Thanks so much for making these videos. I referred to your videos before buying an XP Pen display tablet and iPad! Would you be able to tell me if we can buy apps like Procreate with our TAX number added for invoices? Thanks!
Hello ♥️, someone know when procreate will upload the new update for all to use the roll option? Im waiting fot tha for my review PD: im from México
I don't know when but it should be soon.
@@thebradcolbow thank you Brad ♥️, By the way, your content inspires many of my reviews 🤗
Probably in 2 weeks (guessing).
I have a MacBook Pro and the new iPad Pro. Something I love doing that I don’t see people talking about is using sidecar to use my iPad as a second monitor for my MacBook. Then moving photoshop or whatever to the iPad going full screen and boom full desktop software on iPad
Edit: should’ve kept watching haha. You are the first person I’ve seen mention this
As a former Zbrush user I love Nomad sculpt. For what I like doing it's good enough especially with the remesher update. No way Zbrush isn't going to be a monthly sub lol. Zbrush also never had a real lighting engine built into it as far as I remember. It just became exhausting to even bother opening Zbrush and sifting through the millions of features and menus.
Might be nice if the ipad had a good box modelling software, the Nomad sculpt creator mentioned he's not really interested in adding box modelling features.
Your video sums it up quite nicely! While there are some aspects of the iPad that I still find appealing (started with the first, "original" one!), file system and management - or call it "document handling" as a more broader term, is still completely abysmal! Or, to put it a bit more bluntly: A big pile of sh… It was worse in the beginning, but it is still unusable for power users. The Files app still hides file extensions (and they can't be switched on), so that there's no way to distinguish file types (like PNG, JPG, TIFF, PSD) with identical icons, or variants of file types that have special properties. Long file and folder names are still a problem. Having files inside apps was a bad idea from the get-go, and it hasn't improved (as you mentioned). That's sad, because there are many things I do appreciate in iPadOS, and the iPad itself (and the Apple Pencil) is just a great device.
Apple uses sandboxing for an extra security and privacy layer, which means the file manager cannot resemble Finder like in macOS. You generally have to use the "share" feature, though Apple does allow better file management off external drives now. Unless Apple reworks the file manager for the 10% of iPad users who may need it, it is here to stay. For the 90%, the file manager is fine, bearing in mind the security and privacy benefits.
Nice too see u using nomad sculpt.
Hi, Great video! I do not want MacOS on an iPad. I would love to just see an improved experience. There is no progress bar showing the status of files I transfer between my iPad, servers and hard drives. The iPad files App is terrible, and not professional at all. It's actually embarrassing to use and backwards seeing that it is 2024!
Maybe Adobe project Neo? - new 3d tool with vectors 😍
Yup I was having the Files and Fonts problems just yesterday lol.
But yeah, you can definitely do a lot with the iPad Pro. There plenty of graphic design projects I had started and finished using Affinity Suite. My comics I’m just the writer, character designer, and storyboarder, and those I can do pretty all on iPad Pro.
It’s just those annoying and frustrating simple tasks that the iPad can’t do because how limited iPadOS is. If the Pro had macOS, it wouldn’t be a problem.
It looks like your using the 11 inch? I would wanna know if you think the 12 inch is better as a computer replacement, Wanted to see you try it
It’s the same but slightly bigger. So if iPadOS is good enough for your needs, it should work
Is the iPad Pro from 2020 still worth it?
the google apps on ipad are all so bad. why are half the formatting options not there? Why can I use all of clip studio paint or full on 3D model on the iPad but I can't make a google slides presentation in a custom size? ;_; for awhile a lot of things didn't have native iPad apps and just used the mobile version of things, but most have caught up now and yet google wants me to suffer.
Which device is better iPad 10 gen or Samsung tab S9 fe?

Hi, very nice video, very informative ❤
I'm thinking about purchasing it, 🤔 but im wondering if wacom movink is better for portable drawing and i saw you also reviewed that device. So i wanted to ask you: as an illustrator and comic artist, which one did you prefer to use and why? Any advice would be really appreciated 😊
I'm an artist, and since 2018, the iPad Pro has become my main computer. I will never use another laptop again. It does everything my macbook used to do & so much more. It's not only better for drawing on with the Apple pencil, but it's better as a media consumption device as well. It does so much more than my macbook ever could. It may not be for everyone, but I have totally adopted an iPad iOS only workflow. It totally works for me. I don't care if the iPad ever gets the ability to run Mac OS! It probably will someday, but i really don't care. I love my iPad Pro. I also have an iPad mini for when I really want to travel light. And my iPhone Pro Max has replaced my bulky dslr & lenses.
What screen protector do u suggest. I don't like matt
Anybody else having problems with squeeze gesture and the barrel roll not working on procreate and fresco??
They haven't updated the apps officially yet. I was using beta version in the review.
So far ArtStudio Pro is the inly one I know that implement both already with its recent update.
@@thebradcolbow ahhhh that's a huge relief, thanks brad
My opinion (as it has been requested to all of us, kind of :D ) : It's kind of forcing it, wanting it to be what it is not yet (for professional work). As a personal mainstream device, though, it is brilliant. And I agree, as a companion tool, it can do _"some"_ professional tasks. But no good workflow for color calibration by hardware, the file system issues, can't run the industry standard professional applications on it, way too tiny screen for detailed work without constant zooming (which is the biggest con, IMO, for an illustrator and digital painter, as working most of the time with the global view for composition, is key), no easy way for drawing from the elbow or shoulder, like you can do with a Wacom L (or old XL) or a 22/24/32 inches pen display (I have both types of things) ... Hmm, I as an illustrator, and having used extensively both iPads and Samsung Galaxy Tab S, I don't see both kind of tablets, OSes and ecosystems even close for having them replacing (so, yep, not only an Apple's problem), even partially a desktop and its devices (Eizo monitor with true professional color gamut and accuracy + colorimeter, way bigger screen, large drawing tablets (pen display and pen tablet), scanner & printer, etc). There are too many problems for graphic work (including graphic design, too). When one also works on 3D gigs (and the software needed for them), the list of issues becomes endless.
So, due to all the listed above (and more), it is not like I'm saying that "the solution is buying a Surface Pro" or similar Windows tablet. Many of the problem remain, as they are mostly hardware related. Of course, the industry standard applications, file system and probably color calibration would be less of an issue (although laptops rarely are wide gamut and with professional color qualities, with some exceptions like the Acer ConceptD line). Yet though, I'd be more inclined to give a better ranking to such a companion tool. Or, if at some point in history, Apple decides to release an iPad with macOS in it. And even so, a lot of my work and clients need full compatibility with Windows based software applications, and Apple has not been making that compatibility easy with its very closed ecosystem.
The strong reflections (glaring screens) do make the work with color accuracy a tad worse, and this is not only happening on iPads, this is actually much worse in the Samsung tablets. The anti glare manually set films are not a solution, as they indeed do degrade too much the color intensity and other graphic matters. And it is not "impossible" to do a default anti glare coat, built-int in the monitor which does not produce these problems. I have a professional EIZO screen, that has no glare, proving that it is perfectly possible, but have also had semi professional a NEC Spectraview also proving this. I have worked with other professional monitors at companies neither having glare nor color degradation. I can't see how that level of glare can be considered professional. Apple - also with their desktop monitors- made of it one of those stubborn things that never were true, yet some hardcore fans took those as golden truths (for a long time they said than pens or pencils weren't needed and a stupid gimmick, they removed essential ports, etc, etc). Like the "Apple monitors are the best in the world". Not at all. Eizo takes that crown, and sadly nothing else. As I'd rather wish there being some true competition. Benq is doing interesting things, though, at a much lower level but very nice pricing.
Large print files with many layers, and you get yet another problem: RAM. Most software out there, even very optimized apps, will be unable to handle a relatively big print resolution file with not a crazy number of layers. You just can't go farther than 16 GB. Can't call that professional. In any way. 2TB of disk is if anything a very bare minimum! For most professionals. And yet configuring that in the purchase form, and the maximum of 16 GB RAM makes the price to skyrocket, to levels that make the comparison with a Windows or Linux workstation, in cost, beyond shocking, if not actually hilarious.
Even with a minimal configuration in RAM, disk, wifi-only, I checked the price, just feeling curious the other day, after the nth video hype (this is not one of that kind) on my feed about the new iPad Pro. Minimal configuration (arguable that so low disk and RAM is anything "professional"), without the keyboard as well (which would be a terrible lack), only the Pencil Pro and all minimal, still the 13 inches (as I said, already too small for pro work, *IMO* ) it jumps to 1700 euros! With that I get a fully professional Windows desktop, a workstation, at least double the RAM and many times the disk space, with tons of cores and a good enough GPU to run the so many professional (again, industry standard) applications that now require yes or yes an actual real GPU (they appear to have hard coded something that when it's integrated graphics, many won't work or not too well, if no real discrete GPU is present). And now it is not only in 3D, it's happening to in 2D applications (painting, video, etc).
To add on top of all that , the screen now on the iPad Pro - luckily it is not happening in iPad AIR, much better priced, yet with finally 13 inches, and support of the pencil pro- is OLED. As much hyped as it is, the OLED technology is proved again and again to end up at certain point with burn-in issues (permanent ghost images), even with the counter measures. As if that is not enough, the PWM these iPad Pro screens have are certainly not ideal, producing certain vibration/flickering that some people never perceive (an effect is easily seen in recorded videos of it, though), but others suffer migraines from it. Some older iPad Pros didn't have such (it's not exclusive to OLED, other tech can have it, but frequent in OLED). So, the new AIR (M2) which apparently (I have to fully confirm, yet) has no PWM, and it is using the good old LCD (IPS) screen is a better option, _WAY_ more reasonably priced, too. Still with too much glare, tiny, software and OS issues, color calibration, etc, and being overall a non professional solution, but a smarter purchase (in what is the value you get for the money) for drawing on the go, IMO.
Thanks 🙏 for your thoughts and sharing experience 👏
I've just substituted my huion tablet for my 10th gen iPad, and I feel no difference drawing on both of them. Actuially I like iPad more because it doesn't need any cable to connect
Is there a tablet that is strictly only for drawing and only has art apps and nothing else?
What iPad size was the pro you was using here ?
The way that iPadOS aggressively kills processes or fails when a process (like a large file transfer) takes too long, makes me think that all the performance claims are BS. Sure it's the fastest iPad ever, but if that cant be tapped in any real terms, it might as well not be true. Functionally, it's like a Ferrari that can only drive in a small parking lot with speedbumps. I say this while having just bought the 13 pro.
iPadOS was made for one app at a time, including sandboxing and foreground/background restrictions. So, you must keep the iPad in the app if you are transferring files and have the screen stay on. Of course, it is different from macOS/Windows, and therefore, if it is not suitable, you should not buy the iPad.
i dont have the money to get one of those, but i love your reviews because it allow us to watch it closely and you have a nice vibe and explain it very well. I was waiting for this review since a month ago haha. maybe do another one about lenovo tablets
Managing files on the iPad is a nightmare. Was hoping they would fix that in iPadOS 18.
This video is really helpful in many ways. I plan to replace my desktop PC with an iPad Pro. I already own the newest iPad Pro, so I just need to make the transition. This video came at the perfect time for me.
P.S. The way I ink my illustrations using the 'barrel roll' feature is a game changer.
you already have both devices why not just use both. They both have their own strengths and weaknesses
22:00 "[For most people] the iPad Pro is an accessory, not the main tool you're going to use." - And that's the argument people have for putting MacOS on the iPad.
They believe the hardware is capable (heck, it's been so for a few years now). It's iPadOS that's holding it back.
If you have an M1 iPad, you should be just fine using it for creating whatever you want coz most apps on the iPad don't use the hardware to its fullest (except maybe apps like Procreate Dreams and Final Cut, which might have a couple seconds more lag on M1 compared to M4). Maybe even an A series one would do if you're just doing basic drawing.
So you have this thing that could do so much more, but it just can't, because the options are so limited.
I mean, technically at this point the watch's processing power and RAM far outstrip what was standard on, like, the old candy-colored iMacs. So, yeah. A lot of the capability of these systems is being held hostage to Apple's app store profit margins.
@@NassifehBeing held hostage because Apple itself isn't getting iOS empowered.
It doesn't need Mac OS, they have the same chips so just make the desktop software available on ipad OS. And maybe improve some multitasking
Is the M2 iPad Pro worth it when the M2 air costs as much? I am too used to an oled + 120hz and even if the M2 Pro has mini LED it's better than LCD, but the apple pencil is much better
Personally I would take the refresh rate of the 2022 Pro over the new apple pencil.
I like Face ID over Touch ID too.
I have the M2 iPad Pro and IMHO, just the new pen is not worth it but I do vector graphics so I cannot care less about the new brush features.
If you can take advantage of the press feature, and price it as much as the upgrade, go for it.
The M2 Pro has better connectivity with the Thunderbolt support which allows you to connect to external monitors, drives and docks easily.
Not sure if the new Air allows it as most reviewers kind of review the iPad in a pretty shallow but maybe Brad can give it a quick test.
I also agree with Brad, if it is for drawing, the 120Mhz refresh rate will benefit you more even if you dislike the mini LED screen.
Hi Brad. Thank you for your videos. I always enjoy watching them. 🙂 I have a question I can’t find the answer to elsewhere online I want to ask. When using the m4 iPad with SideCar, does the Apple Pencil Hover feature work with the mouse pointer in apps such as Illustrator or Photoshop? I get this functionality on a Wacom tablet but can’t determine if SideCar supports it, too.
Video editing additions: LumaFusion updates have upgraded dramatically and Davinci.
You can reduce the Sidecar latency by plugging the iPad into the Mac.
Yes, for all features like this, even Samsung, a wired connection is advised as it is free of latency.
I made the switch to iPad for all my art and the only thing I really miss is the screen real estate. but everything else just works so well for me. I essentially bought a 13 in Cintiq that I can take anywhere but can also work on its own without the need for a computer. plus if I do need more screen I just link it to my laptop and mirror my external monitor and use the iPad like an intuos tablet and it works so well in my opinion. Love my iPad but if they released a 16in model I would bite on that real hard 😆
For some time now, I've considered upgrading my iPad Pro. While it's a great device, I gave it away instead and won't be upgrading at all. Every time I use it I feel like a child who's not allowed to do certain things on the iPad. IPadOS is just holding the device back. Even moving a file from the iPad to another non Apple device is a chore. Yet they want me to pay a ton of money to upgrade to another device that doesn't integrate. As good as the device is, IPadOS and the absurd prices are more than enough reason to turn my back on it. I'm done with it and upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy Tab s9 instead. Loving it. As a bonus the Galaxy Tab comes with a pen that doesn't make sound when you are drawing. The sound of the hard plastic tip on glass with the iPad is annoying and the S-Pen is so lightweight. Best of all, it doesn't cost $149, it came with the device.
Just turn off In-App Ratings and Review in the App Store setting and it won’t bother you anymore
Dude please, try a quad remesh on any mini to the limit on nomad. That's could help 3d artist to check the raw power what we need. If you want i can provide a sculpted mini if you want to try.
Great video as always. Greetings from Chile.
I wish you could nuke "rate my app" entirely, it's like they don't allow you to opt-out. That or maybe opt-in to some anonymous usage collection that can be leveraged in a composite rating -- something like X users use this app Y amount per day/week (don't know how they'd measure usage, probably tricky). The point is, I don't trust ratings without combining them with complementary data sources -- the star rating is most useful by most recent and if the volume is high (like Steam for instance).
Love your work and channel, keep up the good work. I’ve been using the new iPad Pro 13 inch and affinity design; I’m seeing that the screen is changing brightness by itself, going really dark then bright. I’ve turned off all the automatic settings, so it should stay consistent. Any suggestions please?
Agree with all things especially the file management quirks. And the app rating and user tips being annoying
I agree!!!!! I cannot stand the rate the app interface...LOL. Thanks Brad great review.
Спасибо за твой обзор. ❤❤❤ plz let me ask: I am looking for an update (I use 208 pro 1 tb) , and I wanted to buy M2 Pro 1 tb. It looks like a great deal, i don’t need this new pencil pro and nano textured glass.. How do you think: can Apple push users to update to M4 with some new program futures? So I would regret to buy m2 over m4?
I have not even watched this yet, BUT I love the TITLE LOL!!!!
@thebradcolbow - could you do a video showing your comic layout/lettering/word balloon process going from procreate to affinity designer and back?
