That’s because they just had too much time on their hands.
I'd always heard that the Thousand Cuts was done using a fishing/trappers net too. Wrapped tight, the executioner would slice the flesh that poked through the netting, and once done the netting would be pulled away quickly leaving the blood to rush back and the remaining skin to essentially explode in a shower of blood.

Its crazy they even had to get to the point of torture just to give some information, I would have been giving names, locations, descriptions, and family 💀
In the example of Spanish Inquisition and Salem Witch Trials a lot of them were innocent, which is even more horrific. Imagine being tortured to extract information from you when you know for a fact you didn’t commit the crime. Especially something as silly as “Admit your a witch!”
Correction to the boiling alive thing: it is most often considered that death occurred due to a heart attack, as the body tried to circulate blood ever-faster to try to cool down.
Modernizing the gas chamber to use nitrogen asphyxiation would be a vast improvement. No suffering, no feel of suffocating, just rapid unconsciousness and then death, while also being inert and non toxic.

We still have branding today - it's called a felony. Try being a convict just getting out of prison with $100 and a bus ticket. I've heard so many stories of how hard it is just for felons to find an employer that will trust them, or a landlord that will actually rent to them. If prison is really supposed to be about reforming the criminal, then why brand him/her for the rest of his/her life with shame? I do think employers should know about theft, but that shouldn't be a sole deterrent to finding work. Just have someone to keep an eye on the hopefully former thief and check the register every day like they should be doing anyway. You get a felony in America, there's not many first world countries that won't regard you as trouble too.

Whats crazy is i've seen similar things done by Mexican Cartels in this day and age. these torture methods never really went anywhere. cartels are using them on their rivals.
yeah. They left out some of the Cartels innovative tortures such as ripping the face off people, having pitbulls bite their privates off then stick them in their mouth, and of course the removal or lungs, heart and gutting their intestines. I even saw one where they cut out an eye but the person could still 'breathe' through the eye it ballooned in and out. They've got this torture thing covered.
I cannot sleep for weeks after watching these types of videos.

Boiling alive makes me wonder how food vendors did at executions. Did they have themed foods for different execution methods like grilled sausages at a heretic burning and kidney pies at a hanging, drawing and quartering.

I'd put keelhauling on the same level as flogging, yeah. Both could be fatal. Those whips caused severe damage to the skin, generally drawing blood, and if the captain ordered enough lashes it was essentially a death sentence, especially if a more damaging whip such as the infamous Cat o' Nine Tails was used. At the same time, I'd bet that captains knew how to use nuances of the ship's movement and details of how a keelhauling was carried out to reduce its lethality if they wanted their troublemakers to survive.

Looking at the comments extracting information in the examples shown was not the issue...it was terrible revenge to be witnessed by anyone thinking of breaking the rules. It works 99% of the time.

I like these videos but make sure that you avoid perpetuating the idea that torture works. In study after study it's been found that it just doesn't get relatable information from people.
This is actually the main reason why torture was widely abandoned in Europe between the late 17th and the early 18th century. Humanitarian reasons also played a part but by far not as much
