Definitely more useful on the jobsite than in a workshop. If you’re going to have a dust collection hose already, a cord isn’t that big of a problem.

You can buy three Bosch 1617EVS routers for $599. I own some Milwaukee tools but the pricing on this one seems way off.

The last couple of years, Milwaukee pricing in general has seemed way off. They are one of the most expensive tool makers I've seen... they used to be on par with Dewalt and I switched brands from Dewalt because they changed up their battery platform, so I had a 12v, 18v, 20v, etc... now I have 12v & 18v. I can live with that.
That being said, I very much dislike the marketing, pricing, and other stuff lately. I've started moving away from some of the battery powered stuff and have been buying gas once again because I can't get reliable usage out of battery powered items (chain saw / pole saw for example).
Don't get me wrong, Milwaukee makes some pretty cool tools but I've been waiting for that unicorn roofing nailer that Dewalt has had out for a while now... but lets spend time and money researching how we can make a dual battery blower and overprice it. 👍

I've had the smaller 1/4 and love it. This makes sense to me as I have a bunch of batteries, appreciate the video!
They should be putting all these tools at this price point in packouts. I love my festool systainers as well as all my packouts. I just hate I have to buy a packout/foam after spending this kind of money.
Lets be honest here, most of us already invested in a battery platform. We will do one of the things
- ignore the video and move on
- watch it and just appreciate the tool
- hate on Milwaukee
- buy it just because we have money and nothing better to do.
Most of the large routing gets done in a shop with a vacuum attached so i believe going corded is a cheaper and smarter option.
Can’t get the Bosch or the Dewalt 1/2” 2+ HP in Australia so this is it.

I do make furniture for living and I do Mill my own moldings as I accumulated around 200 router bits and many of them are architectural bits for custom profiles , was looking into this router and still decided to go with bosch 2 1/4 and makita 3 1/4 for higher demands , the ideal is a shaper but I can't have the profiles I need for the shaper , I am on milwaukee platform and I use their track saw as well it's really nice , but as it comes to the router I still prefer corded because of continuous production specially when I use these huge diameter bits , and only use the palm router from yelow and milwaukee to run a quick edge , but overall I like the idea of the cordless half inch and maybe in the future I get one , but for now I am happy with the setup I currently have, thank you for your review always do the best ones
If it lived in my truck and was constantly pulled out yep.....plus I'm sitting on the fence with changing batteries. Love the nibbler but that's a different size red battery . Great review 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great review as always Matt. Looks like a great router a little pricey. I got the Bosch router with the plunge base a couple years ago and it a great router and the DeWalt palm router also off market place and it’s a great router also
FYI the corded version of this is available. I especially like the body grip on the fixed base.

Just lost my job as a Ready Mix Driver a little over a week ago due to some mental health/anxiety issues. Been binge watching your videos (along with a couple others) for the last week. I’ve learned a lot already. Not only do you have high quality videos which I appreciate.. but you seem like a very high quality human being as well. It’s been very informative and very inspirational. I’ve put what little money I have left into a cordless DeWalt circular saw and Drill/Impact set along with some of the essentials. Thankfully my gpa has an old table saw and some squares n things of that nature I can use for now. Hoping to be able to make ends meet with this hobby until I can find another job. Main focus is my mental health tho.. getting control of my anxiety. I think woodworking will provide me that time to myself and help me heal a little hopefully. Just wanted to say how much your videos have helped me in just a week.. not only from the tips I’ve learned about woodworking but from seeing the joy you have and how you genuinely seem to care about life and helping the people who view your content. 🙏🏻

Tough value proposition when you can get the Bosch fixed/plunge combo routinely for 170-200 bucks.
Or the MRC23EV which has power on the handle, fixed and plunge bases, and a hardcase for about half the cost of this router.

@731 Woodworks 0:32 what would be even better, a Packout inside that box that has the router safe n sound, instead of a bag. As not only would ya be getting into Milwaukee m18 tools, and m12 since charger has both (and get rid of maw chargers altogether), but now have a PACKOUT!

I had to switch gears for last 2 years in my shop and have had to go to battery powered tools and Milwaukee was the way I chose to go and was excited when local ace finally got ahold of it for me. With that said if it wasn’t for my situation I wouldn’t of spent the 350 I did on it. However I haven’t bought the plunge base and the extra battery wasn’t needed as I’m already well equipped with batteries.
The battery router is more useful if smaller, like the DeWalt… rather have multiple routers with different bits.
For the 2 1/4hp… corded works because it normally involves bigger project, likely on the bench. The Dewalt or Skill router meet the need for much less.
Although I truly love the Milwaukee Track saw over the Battey Festool.

I’ve got a bunch of Milwaukee in my shop… their track saw is my current favorite tool to use. The dust collection looks better than most on this but I’m still a little skeptical of this router just due to how tall and top-heavy it looks with the battery. I’m going to need a bit more convincing to abandon my DW618 for the Milwaukee.
Nice review again. I purchased it last month and am impressed, though I really haven't had much of a chance to use it yet.
I learn a long time ago, if a zipper seems to jam or get stuck, do NOT keep pulling on it with all your might. You will only make it worst. You're better off stopping and try to examine what's wrong. Usually, the zipper has caught on some of the fabric underneath. Freeing it will solve the problem. Try backing up the zipper until you can pull the stuck fabric loose.

$600 lol..I’m a Milwaukee fan but even I have my limits. I already have the corded Dewalt and it’s been pretty good for me.

I own this router and am actively using it on the jobsite. I think thats where it shines. I would NOT put this into a router table in a shop or even stationary on the jobsite. But out of the table or in the field is where this shines. I've always hated cords on routers. Just another thing to manage on a tool that already requires precision and control.
I got mine on ebay new in the box bare tool and I think the price was fine. It's a powerful quality tool. That said, I do plan on buying another Bosch corded router to have several tables all set up so I don't have to change bits or routers.

I understand the comments on the price for the full kit but if you’re in the Milwaukee system it’s a no brainer as you can just get the base router without the battery/charger for a lot cheaper. I’d done a LOT of slab flattening with this router already, and it’s a beast for a cordless. My other big reason for going with this is Milwaukee sells a tracksaw track adapter for this router so you can adapt the plunge base to it. Makes the tracksaw workflow that much better!
Can you test the plunge base for the Milwaukee trim router?
The features of this Milwaukee router are impressive. I have the Bosch and while I love it, it is one giant PITA to take the motor out and insert it back into the base.
Metabo HPT 1/2" 36V plunge router is best tool in our shop and jobsite and the MHPT can use the AC adapter for all day use if u have AC available
The Metabo HPT 36V router did it first and did it better with the ability of the battery power and being a plug in when needed.
I’m sorry, I just don’t see $600 worth of tool there. But then again if you’re a Milwaukee fan,’it wouldn’t matter if they charged $1000, people would still buy it.

Metabo HPT made a cordless plunge router a few years back. Dewalt also has a newer corded router, the DWE625. It would be nice to see those reviewed as well.

The Metabo HPT 36V 1/2" plunge router is an absolute beast and can be plugged in with an AC adapter no other tool company does that
I have Milwaukee cordless tools, but I’m not spending that much on the router. I have the Bosch trim router and it great.
I was gifted a lot of Milwaukee tools, a few months back. Ever since I got them, I find myself using them more than DeWalt, and Bosch. It wouldn’t surprise me. This becomes the best router on the market. Also, I’m a huge fan of the hand strap on this router. I haven’t seen that before

It looks like from videos outside the US, the router came in a Packout case instead of the bag(Black with red letters). I agree it should come in a Packout case at this price or have the option to buy it in one.
Nice review, I’d have to agree with your needs assessment. I personally have the dewalt and it’s a beast use it a bunch for slab leveling with a 2 1/2” surface but, runs it fine. In that arena “slab work” I wouldn’t think a battery powered tool would be the best choice.

Metabo hpt has a brushless cordless 36v plunge router, I don't own it but I do own their 10 inch 36v cordless table saw, it's a beast I imagine the router is as well. I think I commented on the table saw on this channel before I'm hoping to see you test it. Full of every feature same as a corded 10 inch, would love to get your opinion on it I have zero complaints. And the router as well if you get the opportunity

Two on jobsite for cutouts and all kinds of things we never could do with the baby trim routers and my favorite router in the shop
Literally bought a porter cable router (plunge router) 1/4 and 1/2 guy never really used it has up to 24k revolutions couldn’t be happier with it. For just 100 bucks, if you’re an inspiring wood worker or hobbyists I wouldn’t suggest buying a $500 dollar router.
The corded Bosch comes in a nice hard case, milwaukee needs to step it up

I got a chuckle when you showed the Amazon page and said "$500 for this entire kit" when it showed $599.
You should test the craftsman cordless trim router
Couple of thoughts:
1. Looks like a real nice router. If I was in the red plastic line, I would consider it.
2. I like that your reviews are more typical user points and not all tech talk.
3. I'm glad your thumbnail wasn't your typical weird face one you have been putting on too many videos. I'm getting sick of everyone's thumbnail being - confused, surprised, angry, pointing... they are getting old.
I can see getting this if you’re already in the team red camp but it’s so close in cost to team green that it’s not such an easy choice if you’re platform agnostic.
what a cheap side fence for a premium router. I've got a 35 year old ELU router and a 30 year old Trend router that both have well made side fences with micro adjustment ( that are also interchangeable ).
I would like to see you test the 2.3hp Bosch router, it has much better handles and a trigger switch.
It’s looks like a good cordless router! I have the corded version of the Milwaukee router and honestly it’s my favorite because of the strap and how you can hold it with one hand. The corded Milwaukee router is very underrated since it doesn’t seem very popular among woodworkers.
Agree. I have the corded model, and it’s great. However, it stays in the router table most of the time.
Would the handles from the plunge base interchange with the regular base?

I remember getting laughed at 10 years ago asking if there was a cordless router. I think there were a couple options, but nothing that would have been able to do the project we were doing. Now... It's great.
It looks like a fabulous router for sure. I don't take my tools out of the shop so the power cord has never presented a problem for me. I don't need fancy tools being an amateur and could never justify the price. I'll stay with my Kobalt in the router table and Bosch palm router. Not sure if this would work but maybe removing the cardboard packing material, filling it underneath with spray foam insulation, and painting the top surface with some kind of thick paint making it sturdier, you would then have packing formed to the tools that you don’t throw away once you take the tool and accessories out of the bag? Just trying to DIY a solution.
I think that if someone will own this for 10+ years, that's $60 a year or only $5 a month for cost of ownership, so very little.
The new Mafell router is a marvel and has features I've never seen on a router such as a tool free bit change and an integrated balancing foot. The Milwaukee brings possibilities to the US market that didn't currently exist.
I don't get the comparison between this and DeWalt/bosh. This is Battery powered, of course it is going to be more expensive, and of course it is going to be a taller machine 😁😁 Otherwise perfect video as always.

I really wish Milwaukee made a corded version of this router. It has a lot of nice features. Since I do virtually all my work inside my shop, I just don't get any value from the router being battery powered.

I looked at the cost of the router. Tool only, it is the same price as their corded 2.25 HP router. So, tool itself isn’t different, but you need battery for this, so you buy battery and charger. If you already have batteries and chargers, you buy tool only and paying same price as corded. I have the corded, and they are great. I also have the cordless trim router, and it is great. Got it on sale.
ON a router, cordless is priceless, and it can help with having to move the cord out of the way or move the cord so you can keep cutting,

I've never used the Festool router, but from my past experience with Festool tools, I'd get the Festool lol. This one is really nice, but I like Festool products a lot.

Why are the fixed base handgrips different from the plunge base? As for the Bosch (do people still buy dark green?)... why not 3D print your prefered grips and swap out the round grips.

Have you had any issues with your palm Milwaukee router not staying where you set it? I was making grooves for my T tracks and it dropped down some. I had it all locked it but it’s done it to me a few times.
Yeah, at first, but I just tightened that set bolt down about half turn and it fixed it.
I think that battery power is an excellent choice for a router. Not so much for a table saw.

Nice to have dust collection but if you're going to hook a hose to that then you may as well use a corded router anyways.
I would have to disagree. I love not having another cord to worry about when I use my cordless tools with dust extraction. One cord is half the work of 2 cords and if you're on a job site and you don't have to worry about dust, this is a fantastic option.
@@AaronGeller Typically we(professionals) have the power and dust hose as one unit that connect the tool to the dust extractor. Thus making this tool pointless if you're using it with dust collection.
How about you build something with all these tools you have?

As a hobbyist, i just cant justify the price for the amount of use. But dang it looks nice
I own one of these and really like it, but I do have a few complaints:
- The bag. Do other items have something that holds the base you aren't using and all the random pieces like the other collet or the rail guides?
- I wish there was a way to fire up the lights for like 10 seconds without having to start the router.
- This one might be on me, but certain bits are pretty darn short and wide and the dust shroud doesn't work with them. Essentially anything wider than the shrouds hole won't work with the plunge base is what I've gathered. My first router so I have no clue what I'm doing so if someone has advice I'm all ears.
With that price, it seems like they are turning into a snap on.

I just purchased the Bosch 2-1/4hp fix/plunge base router which came with a hard case and the upgraded edge guide for $240. I’m more than happy to deal with the cord rather than paying $720 for the Milwaukee router and the upgraded edge guide. I can understand why someone would buy a cordless router, but at $600? We all have different opinions when it comes to the value of tools, but other than being cordless, is the Milwaukee really $350 better than the Bosch? I have different brands of tools in my shop as I buy my tools based on whats the best value, what will provide the overall performance I need for my shop and, how often I’ll use the tool. Festool and Milwaukee are great tools, but for my purpose, they are overpriced and unnecessary as I don’t have a production shop, I don’t use tools in the field and I don’t need the wide range of tools offered by Milwaukee. I did however buy a Festool sander and a Fuji Pro 2 paint sprayer as the performance of these tools were worth the expense to me. I do however appreciate your review of various tools as I find them to be very helpful.

Yeah...I'd have to say that's a Nope for me. $600 for a router that I can get done just as well using a $150 router. Hmmm. 😮

impressive tool, but a full size router with a cord is lighter and much cheaper, and I rarely need to use a router away from the shop. I am sure some need it on new construction, but that's the only advantage I can see
