Edit:just got the D8 and it doesn't show milage on the body control module. And my cluster is out in a shop. 😔 Question. Great video. My gauge cluster went out on my 05 Silverado and I sent it out for repair. Now they need my total odometer milage and engine hours. I ordered the D8 and should have it tomorrow. Hopefully I can get the milage like you did. Where would I find the engine hours? In the ECU?
It's interesting, when I back out of all the menu like you did at the end of the video, where yours shows the milage mine is blank. I wonder if that one is pulling from the cluster.
Been using a thinktool mini 2 scanner in a hyundai santafe gen 3 2013 model. the ecu odometer read 66k km while the odometer in the dashboard pannel is 100k. is this possible that the ECU does not provide the correct odometer? thanks for this video, i will later try to rescan the unit and check BCM if there is ecu information to check the total mileage.
@@737mechanic is that possible that the information in the ECU vs the BCM ( ecu information will not match up since the ecu has been replaced?). it seems that the BCM will be the original odometer of the unit which is reflected in the dashboard
@@rabbb3619 I am not sure on hyundia how they have their Odometer info stored.. One thing you can do is pull up a carfax and see if their is any service info, depending on what state you are in and if the vehicle has been serviced at a shop that reports the info sometimes it will show a nice timeline of what was done to a car and the mileage at the time. If you see the mileage all of a sudden go lower than a prevuios year then you could tell which module has the correct mileage.
And what about clocking with Iprog? That read and write eeprom files? Saw vídeos of mileage been backed from 200.000 tô 100.000km. That IS checkable? It leave traces? How to spot?!
I am not sure if it leaves any old traces that can be checked other than the ways I said in the video. In states that have yearly vehicle inspections the most you could get away with rolling the odometer back would be whatever the last mileage it had when it was last inspected, even most shops document the mileage when they do oil changes and other maintenance so you can see a lot of that on a car fax.
Here in Brazil things are not like there. But This equipment had ability tô read eeprom chipset data, where This information could bê readable in hex translator
The difference in mileage between the actual reading in the odometer and what's inside the BCM or cluster can be do to the transportation or vehicle been moved during where it was made and where it was sold.
You could do a video displaying how the D8 graphs info. Because it's one thing that it kinda falls short on; and I wish I knew that before I bought it-- but no one had ever made a video showing it. It says it can only graph 5 things at once, and it can only show them all on ONE graph, so it overlays all the data on top of each other. Not ideal. The Thinktool Pro can display 16 separate mini graphs on the screen all at once. So for example, if you were watching O2 sensor oscillations and short and long fuel trims on both banks-- that would be several pids of info that you're trying to watch all at once. I've never actually tried to do this myself. But it would make a great video, because it's just not out there. You would have the only video showing the Graphing capabilities of the D8. Also, when you're in the pid list (live data list)-- you can push the drop down graph on the right, for a quick view. But I think it can only display one graph at a time in the list. So when you open a second drop down graph, it will close the first one. Where as other scantools can do multiple drop down graphs, right there in the list.... I just think it would make a really great video for people to know what they are buying-- but I'm not sure how obligated you are to xtool- or if they have sent you the tool for free or if your hands or tied, etc. I understand that if there is money involved, they may not be so happy about a video like that. lol.
I will make a video on the graphing abilities. I did buy my d8 so I am not obligated to them for anything. My launch displays multiple graphs at once and it is nice to do that.

Could the discrepancy in milage be the modules are counting revolutions to determine milage using a theoretical number for tire circumference. And the odometer milage is taking account of the actual tire size which could be different than the circumference the module uses to determine milage. i.e. tire wear, over inflated tires, plus circumference varies between manufacturers and even within the same manufacturer. Just a thought.

Attention, in Mercedes W246, 176, 212, 204, 205 the equipment does not do EZS!!! Changing the counter settings works for a few seconds and then reads the old value from the EZS. Digiprog 3 does it better.
As far as the main scan tool it does work on 2005 Duramax. As far as the Odometer reading It depends on year make and model and I have not verified it on a 2005 model year so I couldn't tell you for sure.
OUT OF CURIOSITY HAVE YOU EVER TRANSFERED THE ORIGINAL MILEAGE FROM AN OLD CLUSTER TO A NEW/USED CLUSTER BY GETTING THE MILEAGE OFF A CHIP. I DON'T BELIEVE A SCAN TOOL CAN DO IT. I HAVE THE EQUIPMENT TO PULL THE INFORMATION BUT CAN'T FIND THE CHIP THAT CONTAINS THE MILEAGE ON A 2002 DODGE RAM.
I just did a full scan of a friend's 2016 gmc arcadia she bought from a dealer in town about 7 months ago shes been having a few issues with. The odometer on the dash is showing like 116000,but when i finished the report the millage came up as 0 on the scanner.i hooked it to my car that i bought new 5 years ago and it read the proper miles just in km . i haven't said anything to her about it .dont think i want to open that can of worms
