2011 Ford Ranger PATS key programming (using XTOOL D8), key cutting, remote FOB programming

- In this video we learn how to use the XTOOL D8 to program a 2011 Ford Ranger to accept two $29 PATS keys from eBay. Before we can program the keys in, we’ll need to cut them using a mini-CNC mill. As a bonus we’ll show how to program in new $5 remote FOBs form eBay, no scanner required. We’ll finish up comparing the cost of buying a key from the dealer to the hardware required to do it yourself.

I bought the XTOOL D8 about three weeks ago and so far I’m very happy with it. At first I was not able to update it using my phone as a hotspot as I don’t have internet service but used the WiFi at a Starbucks. I was very slow but worked.

They do release updates often, so it is worth taking it with you to Starbucks on occasion. They also respond to emails if you have a problem with the tool and can retrieve the diagnostic logs from the D8 over the internet connection so they can find out what the issue was.

Cool, looking at the D8, mainly for a 2001 mustang, seems this tool will bleed the abs, and let me cycle valves in the evap system, I have issues with both. being I only have one key, this is a great feature to see working with ford. Thanks for posting it.

Have you attempted this with the D-7? I just ordered one, and it’s advertised as doing the same function.
Way back my parents had the dealer make them a second key for an Explorer, they were charged over $100 and got an aftermarket key....yes, an aftermarket key from the Ford dealer. I then ordered an OEM key from ebay and programmed it, once you have two working keys you can 'self program' more keys, similar to how you can program additional remotes. They wanted almost $100 for a remote and programming...no thanks. I always tell people with this era Ford to keep three working keys so that if they loose one they can program a third and never be stuck going to a dealer or locksmith for programming.
On some vehicles you can program in new keys if you have 2 or more. If you want to disable any lost keys you need a scanner though.

I know this question isnt pertaining to the D8 but could you tell me where you were able to purchase your weathertech floor mats for your Ranger? I've recently purchased a 2011 and have been unable to find anyone who has them. Thanks in advance
I got them about 7 years ago. I checked my email and found I got them from AutoAnything dot com. It looks like they might still have them.

How many keys can be programmed
I suspect that will depend on the specific vehicle. They all seem to be able to hold a different, fixed, umber of keys.
