I just found you. This is the best organization I have seen. I don't have to buy a bunch of containers that will not work. Thank you for all the good tips.❤
With two boys 13 & 17, that eat more than they sleep! lol I couldn’t figure out how to organize all the food in our new “modern” fridge. Our model looks like yours!!! Hooray! Just bought some Ball jars, I know what I am doing this weekend!!!! Thank you! You have a new subscriber.
Thank you for this wonderful video filled with so many tips!! I am 75 and am just now realizing that I have never liked all the plastic yogurt, cottage cheese and condiment containers in my fridge, but it didn't occur to me to transfer them to glass - duh! :) Am excited to get organizing!! Thanks so much!!!
Thank you so much, I am one and waste a lot of food. I love veggies and weekly clean out the unused and spoiled items and replace with new. This way, I hope to be like you and minimize my grocery store visits. I have already started reorganizing. You are fabulous!!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words. I hope you enjoy my other videos for how to wash and store items so that you can reduce waste. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes and it will save you so much money! Thanks for your comment.
This is nice because I have been doing this for a long, long time. I was raised with milk in glass, so I hate plastic except for Debbie Meyers containers or bags. I also hate bulky boxes, so I transfer everything, I put my cereal in a large glass container in a cabinet, and my milk is transferred to glass milk bottles as the milk lasts so much longer. For those who don't know boxes from the market can sometimes contain bugs.
OMG! I love the idea of using jar to store fruits and veggies in the fridge. I’ve been seeing a lot of people using plastic containers which I’m so hesitating about buying them. All the other glass tubberware are not big enough. But now I can go and hunt for all size of jars. Thank you for sharing!❤
I have purchased 2 cup glass bottles that I use for my milk. I find that milk lasts longer when you don’t open the containers. even freeze one as I get to my last bottle. I’m single and don’t go through milk that quickly. I always wash in the dishwasher.
I learned a few new things. I strive for zero waste as well. I keep a clear bin on my top shelf and all leftovers go in it so nothing gets lost in the refrigerator and they all get used up. I just became a new subscriber. Look forward to seeing more of you. I have been using glass jars for years. Never any waste. I even put left over paint in old spaghetti jars. Mark the color and room they were used in. Touch up my walls when needed with the left over paint. Works perfect. Last about ten years in those jars 😊
As long as it doesn’t go bad before you use it up, it’s more cost effective to buy a gallon of milk, then decant at the halfway mark into a half-gallon mason jar (then into a quart jar etc) as you drink it up.
Wow, this is so helpful! I waste so much food. I've been buying fresh weekly prepared meals because it has been cheaper than all the waste that goes on with my groceries. I'll watch more of your videos and see if I can change my habits. Thank-you!!!
Greetings from south india, and I will be honest with you, when I say it's your pretty glass jars, that are my favourite as well, that actually made me watch your splendid video. As Indians, we're used to a lot of stainless steel, hardy, practical utensils, which we're comfortable with, except when it comes to opening hundreds of jars in the fridge as well as the pantry,to discover what's in them. This is a no-no for me, when I am in a hurry, so I switched to glass jars, and my life is beautiful 😅. Thanks for sharing your tips too!

Thank you so much for sharing these ideas with us. I’ve been doing this for decades. I’m much older than you, you’re so right. Everything stays much fresher & longer when you placed it in a jar, etc.. I use my label machine to place the date on top when it’s gonna expire…. I’ve been using the one of 3 of 3, and 2 of 3, etc method for centuries it’s called the Cabana system. I also do that with my dry goods and over-the-counter items. It keeps me from buying items I already have…👍🏼💞😊

Wow, just found you - I will use several of your ideas! I'd like to share a tip regarding the sharpie and labeling...I use a strip of scotch tape, place it on the jar then write the contents on it - no scrubbing to get ink off of jars - it's easy to remove the tape pre or post dishwasher.
I was just thinking that I wanted to go less often to the grocery store! Although, to be honest, we spend a lot of our money With local farmers and ranchers. Your fridge is eye candy for sure! I love putting things into Glass as well! And I use the acrylic trays to defrost meat before cutting it up either raw or cooked to prep for meal times. I gleaned a lot of inspiration and affirmation from your video!
Really like your idea of keeping cilantro fresh since mine half of them always goes waste. Can’t wait to try your way out! Thanks for sharing! First time watching your video, loving it❤
When you trim herbs for jar, put in water immediately for best results. Love your herbs on door idea. Does sharpie easily come off glass? You are amazing! I subscribed.
Yes, sharpie comes off glass by scrubbing with soap and water, but you have to actually rub it off with the sponge/dish cloth. The dishwasher will not remove it, in my experience. Or you can wipe it off with alcohol.
First time watching your TH-cam. I'm halfway through it and am so convinced that your methods will save me so much money. I went to your website and purchased your ebook series "I bought it now what" (great name) and also the Meal Planner/Grocery Guide. I have been using glass containers for years for leftovers, tuna & chicken salad. But you've really opened up a whole new world. I subscribed and look forward to watching more of you on TH-cam. Oh, I hope the ebook or meal planner/grocery guide has your recipe for crispy pickles. I love crispy pickles.
Hi! Thank you so much for this comment and for buying my products! You are going to love them, there is so much information in that book and planner. You can find the crispy pickles recipe on my blog here: thecrosslegacy.com/quick-and-easy-crunchy-dill-pickles/ I also have a video about it if you haven't seen that yet, it's on my channel. Thank you again!

Amazing and so informative and helpful. Next fridge cleanly I'm going to incorporate more of your ideas that I am not already doing. Thank you! Subscribing.
Great video! Thank you for the tips! Question: your metal lids do not get rusty? Because I have this problem. This is why I stopped putting stuff in jars.
Make sure not to let them soak in water and try to dry them as you wash them. The really only time I deal with rust is when I am using them on acid type items like ketchup and bbq sauce that I make from scratch.
thank you for your helpful tips. On your lg fridge, on the water/ice in the door control panel. there will either be an alarm button or a menu button where you can find the alarm button and you can turn it off, so it doesn't bother you during filming
Thanks for watching, I'm glad it was helpful! I do not vacuum seal my jars that are in the fridge. The metal lids are airtight and that is all that is needed for this type of food storage.
Amy thank you for sharing such wonderful ideas Have you ever used plastic lids with silicone gaskets on your ball jars ??? Wondering if they work as well as the metal lids with rings. Bless you!!!
Hmmmm, I used to can all the time, but since being empty nesters I no longer do very much. Needless to say, I have a huge inventory of empty canning jars. Going to start using them next time I clean the fridge. Interesting video!
Wow 😮I just found your channel and I am so excited about not throwing away uneaten cilantro 🌿!!! That’s awesome that you can store it in water! 😮 And the fruit in jars!!! Wow this was so enlightening! Thanks so much for sharing! We waste way too much food and it’s way too expensive to be wasting right now… or ever! 😂❤
* * I want you to come organize my fridge .. =D Nice job, I totally will be using what I learned here today.. Thank you.. Another reason we cut the ends off the parsley is to prevent 'air' from traveling up the stem, which will rot the leaves. water will push that air up as the plant is drawing the water up the stem.. like an airbubble-ish .. again, nice video.. thanks from Ohio =D
OMGosh I’m soooo happy your video popped up because I was planning on cleaning my freg/freezer and this was very helpful 🙏‼️. New subscriber from South Louisiana 🐊🦐🦀.
I'm so glad as well! I hope that organizing your fridge and freezer goes well. I will have a freezer video coming soon, so keep an eye out for that. :) Thanks for watching and subscribing.
I would like to add...if you dont use up milk very quickly, it is a great idea to instead buy organic half gallon milk. Although a little more expenive, they are ultra pasturized and have an expiration date at least a month into the future. Also the 2% will froth in a frother, instead of needing to use whole milk.
Hi! Thanks for watching. Plastic lids work great for things like berries and other fruits. Metal lids are needed when you want it to be totally airtight like dairy items or cut avocados and apples. I hope that helps!
This was so informative! I have the exact same refrigerator and it's wise you don't use the second ice maker. Mine is broken already. I never thought about using the smaller jars on that left side of the door that's rather narrow. Thank you!
Ya we never have used the bottom ice maker I took that out right at the beginning. We have a counter top ice maker now that I use for nugget ice but it's because I like to put filtered water in it to make the ice. Our tap water has so much chlorine you can taste it.
@@TheCrossLegacy I took your advice and didn't use tap water for my cilantro, but used water from the fridge. This morning, it was wilted. Was the water too cold?
Thanks for the kind words. Yes, you can. You can use whatever lids you'd like. Most of my jars have metal but plastic is fine for most items, I wouldn't use it on something like a cut avocado or apple because it's not totally airtight. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Your video has inspired me to organize and strive for zero food waste. I tbrow out so much food..mostly due to being unorganized. Thank you for this video! Ps: my 1st time watching you. U just popped in my feed. Subscribing now😊
I am so happy to hear that! You can do it. If you watch some more of my produce videos you'll get step by step directions for how I wash them and reduce waste. I appreciate you subscribing!
I have all the Pyrex containers in one drawer. The glass jars we also use for drinking glasses for the pints and pint and a half so over the years I got rid of the Tupperware containers and glasses as I started making the switch over. This is the same house we have been in for 20 yrs now so now that I have a bedroom empty I am able to store my canning supplies in there but that has only been the last 3 yrs we have had space to do so
So when you are filling your bowls from the the tap you are using unfiltered and adding the vinegar and the water you put in the jars of cilantro and parsley is filtered?
I thought avocados were not supposed to go in fridge. Great video. I got some ideas! I usually buy milk in gallons but when they are half gone I can put into a smaller container. Often I wait until last quart and put in a quart jar.
Beautifully stored produce! Now I need to figure out how to accomplish this with a full sized refrigerator, with no drawers. A design flaw from manufacturing. Rarely does anything go to waste, the chickens get any produce that goes soft. Any suggestions for a full size refrigerator that has no drawers or freezer, to emulate a crisper drawer?
That is interesting to have no crisper drawers. I would keep things in bowls so that they are apart. For example I keep my apples and pears on the top, while lemons and citrus as in the crisper drawer so I would keep those on the bottom. They are more sensitive to the ethylene that is released and cause them to spoil faster.
Wow, this is really amazing. I'm going to have to give this some serious consideration. I too, live in the Greater Seattle area and we have chickens. We also have our own apple trees and I'm going to be looking up your tips for storing those. :) Thanks for sharing!
This is great ! Thank you ! I did subscribe & like! Do u first wash all of vegetables & fruit then put them in d fridge? Or u wash them before u eat them? Cz I was told if u wash & put them in d fridge they go bad sooner then it should! Pls let me know! Ty
Hi, I wash almost everything before it gets put away, there are very few exceptions. Washing them correctly kills mold spores and other harmful pathogens, so it actually helps them last longer. In this video I share a lot of washing tips: th-cam.com/video/VmRtK4CVQ20/w-d-xo.html Also if you look at the fruit or vegetable playlists on my channel you'll find videos for most produce items. I also have a downloadable eBook with directions for 75 items. Let me know if you'd like that link! :)
I have a 2017 LG counter depth refrigerator. I don’t think counter depth is the “standard”, it’s for small townhomes, condo, etc. It doesn’t look as big as yours inside. I’m hoping you’ll do one on a smaller interior.
We actually got a tape measure out after seeing this comment. When I talk about it being standard it is the standard size that we had in our home before, the house was built in 1980 and its 36" wide. Some people thing I have a really highend fridge and it's a 36" wide counter depth. Yes some apartments/condos have a smaller standard size that is 30" wide. Our home in total is only 1100sq feet total. I did do alot of research and own a housekeeping company for the last 16 years so I knew when I purchased a fridge that I didn't want the icemaker taking up shelf space and exactly what I was looking for in features, then it was 2020 when we were doing this kitchen remodel so by the time we saved for this fridge it took 9 months to actually get it. For 3 years we didn't even have a fridge in our kitchen that worked and a smaller fridge in the garage 2 flights down of stairs that I worked out of having 4 under 7 living here.
I use metal since that is what most jars come with in the smaller sizes. Plastic lids are actually better for berries, but you always want metal for something like a cut avocado or apple that you want to keep airtight.
I just happened across this video. I was thinking, Who needs to watch a fridge org video, but then thought about my fridge and maybe I'd get an idea or two. I have a similar fridge for the first time in my 50-plus years and it makes you think differently about storage. I use mason jars to store leftovers and have sometimes put fruit in them, but hadn't thought of transferring yogurt, sour cream, etc into them. I like stackable items, but my kitchen is small, so I don't know what I'd do with glass containers when not in use ( but really... how often would they not be in fridge use?? So I will rethink those) I like your idea about half gallon milks -- keeps them fresher longer, too if they don't get used often, but I'm going to rearrange them to the door -- our boy gets frustrated sometimes when other things get put in front of his milk and creamer (no blame to him there... it's frustrating). I have a soda holder that holds hubby's tea cans and my sparkling water cans -- 6 on each level. But really, we can probably put just 2 or 3 of each in a door tray and restock every other day -- I don't need 12 cold cans, just one of each for each day, typically. I have an extra half shelf that didn't fit in the fridge, but maybe with some stackables or other containers, I could fit it back in and make it more user friendly. I also got to thinking about a couple things in my fridge that really don't need to be in there. So yes, this was very helpful and I'm glad I stopped to watch :) Now, going to check out more of yours and subscribe :) Side note on the mason jars -- besides them being pretty, they are so much more useful for items than opaque storage since you can see inside without having to open the container. When we moved last, 6 years ago, I got rid of bunches of food storage containers and went (mostly) all mason jar. They're always sitting around empty in some quantity so if I'm going to store them empty for a while, why not fill them? Our house is pretty small, so I started thinking of ways to consolidate space. My house has to serve me and my family :) Blessings!
Thank you for all of your kind words! It sounds like you have a pretty good system for organization. Being able to see through the glass in mason jars is one of the reasons that I started using them as well. It helped my littles to be able to choose healthier snack options. :) I hope that you enjoy my other videos just as much! Thanks for subscribing and supporting The Cross Legacy.
You mentioned that you use glass jars with metal lids to store your food in your fridge. I have a lot of these jars, but with plastic screw-on lids. Are those ok to use, or does it make a difference to use the metal lids? Thanks for all your tips. Planning to reorganize my fridge today. ~Christina from SoCal
Hi! Plastic lids will work well for most items. The only time that you want to make sure it is a metal lid is if it is something that is cut that you need totally airtight (like an avocado or apple) or something smelly that you want to keep the smell in (cut onions or peppers). But plastic works well for everything else. :) Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Have fun organizing your fridge!
I’m dying for a real fridge. We live in an apartment and ours is absolute crap! Small and doesn’t work properly but our landlord won’t get us a new one… 😩 we are vegetarian too so we need a proper temperature control fridge
When I suggest metal it is because it will last longer for that item, like Avocados. But plastic works better for the berries because it let's a little of the air out and not as much condensation. We have a complete list in the back of our book www.thecrosslegacy.com/book
New subscriber here. Excellent information. Maybe an odd question, but I was wondering if you sterilize the jars to store the yogurt and cottage cheese? Or is it safe using a jar that has gone through the dishwasher or hand washed? Thank you so much, Linda
That must be nice. My husband refuses to budget or stop going to the supermarket 1-2x PER DAY. He says it's stupid and doesn't help to go less often 🤦🏽♀️ he's the one who does the grocery shopping now after having a baby. But even before when I used to go to the supermarket, he would still go even if I had just gone
Check your receipts & the car. My husband would find any excuse to go to the store 'for me", regardless of how much food we had in the house. He was buying snacks that I do not keep on the house. I don't buy junk food to keep as snacks. A few months ago I found a fast food onion ring between the seats & a recept, bought separately from what he went to the store fore, with candy bars on it.
I’m in need of a new refrigerator and was wondering if you have a link for yours? Also, what size is it? 36” or 33”? Hopefully, I can get it in a 33” wide as that’s the max size for the opening in our refrigerator. TIA!
I just found so you I'm sure you have this laid out somewhere but is there a reason you use the metal lids? I love the mason jars but I use the nice plastic lids that don't have 2 pieces. Maybe they aren't air tight enough?
Hi! I'm so glad that you found my channel as well. You can use plastic lids for berries and most produce items. Metal lids are more airtight so you'd want them for anything that is cut like an avocado or apple, but plastic lids are fine for anything else. I just use what I have. :) Thanks for watching! Hi what about apples and kiwi, and plums and pears and oranges should they all be in the crisper draws together? what about greens like rainbow chard, and kale, and collard greens how long will they last in they are in glass jars? when you put the carrots that have been sliced and the cucumbers that have been sliced do you use paper towels in the bottom of the jars or do you just put the vegetables by themselves in the jars?

About how many mason jars and other containers do you have dedicated to your fridge alone? Do you ever use other jars or does it need to be a mason jar seal to keep things fresh?
Just depends in what season that I have, but if you are just starting out a case (6) of half gallon and a case (12) of wide mouth quarts are a good starting place. I made all of our own condiments like barbecue sauce so there are extra jars of those kinds of things that most people just buy from the store. Yes any type of reused glass jar works, for 10 years we used pickles jars.
@@TheCrossLegacyGood to know! I have soooo many empty jars right now! My husband has started boxing them up because they are spilling out of the cupboards. I also love know the avocado/citrus tip. I have been telling everyone about it.

I love putting things into Glass as well! And I use the acrylic trays to defrost meat before cutting it up either raw or cooked to prep for meal times. I gleaned a lot of inspiration and affirmation from your video!
Love that! Thanks for watching I hope you hit subscribe ❤

You can find the crispy pickles recipe on my blog here: thecrosslegacy.com/quick-and-easy-crunchy-dill-pickles/
I also have a video about it if you haven't seen that yet, it's on my channel. Thank you again!
I love mason jars 😆
Me too. I have also put all my laundry products amd my sourdough starter in mason jars as well.
they serve so many great purposes!
Wow!! Loved your video!! I struggle to organize and end up throwing so much food!!! I will follow your tips for sure!! Thank you!!!
Glad it was helpful!
I haven’t watched a video this helpful in a long time. Wow thank you! I will buy jars thank you

Would love to know your favorite glass food storage brands and models (besides mason jars). Cool video. Thank you.

We have tried so many times and can't get it to stop beeping when I am filming
@@TheCrossLegacy No problem, it doesn't bother me. I thought it was bothering you. Thanks again for sharing your tips
I so needed this video. Thank you. Got a question for you, though. Do you vacuum seal the things in the mason jars?
Thanks for watching, I'm glad it was helpful! I do not vacuum seal my jars that are in the fridge. The metal lids are airtight and that is all that is needed for this type of food storage.
Amy thank you for sharing such wonderful ideas Have you ever used plastic lids with silicone gaskets on your ball jars ??? Wondering if they work as well as the metal lids with rings. Bless you!!!
You are welcome, thank you so much for watching. I don't personally use those jars but they will work well since they are still glass.
Hmmmm, I used to can all the time, but since being empty nesters I no longer do very much. Needless to say, I have a huge inventory of empty canning jars. Going to start using them next time I clean the fridge. Interesting video!
You're welcome! I'm glad that you enjoyed it. There are so many things you can do with the jars besides canning. :)
Wow 😮I just found your channel and I am so excited about not throwing away uneaten cilantro 🌿!!! That’s awesome that you can store it in water! 😮
And the fruit in jars!!!

I would like to add...if you dont use up milk very quickly, it is a great idea to instead buy organic half gallon milk. Although a little more expenive, they are ultra pasturized and have an expiration date at least a month into the future. Also the 2% will froth in a frother, instead of needing to use whole milk.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom. How would you store a lemon or lime that has been cut?
In a glass container, either a Mason jar or glass snapware.
Great video! How big is your salad container? Is it glass? and where did you purchase it? thanks so much for the info and wonderful ideas!
yes its glass, its on my amazon storefront under washing and storing produce (it's the one with the chicken in it) www.thecrosslegacy.com/starthere
Thank you for all your tips! I'm curious if you think the plastic lids would work well or better than the metal canning lids for refrigerator storage?
Hi! Thanks for watching. Plastic lids work great for things like berries and other fruits. Metal lids are needed when you want it to be totally airtight like dairy items or cut avocados and apples. I hope that helps!
Excellent demonstration! Thank you.
Thank you for watching
@MsDoglover02 and you trimmed the ends? We have a cold spot in the upper right hand of our fridge that I can't put greens
Can you use plastic lids on the canning jars instead? You are Amazing. 💕
Thanks for the kind words. Yes, you can. You can use whatever lids you'd like. Most of my jars have metal but plastic is fine for most items, I wouldn't use it on something like a cut avocado or apple because it's not totally airtight. Thanks for watching and commenting!
This was inspirational! Thank you.

I love this storage style. Do you have tips on how to store all the glass containers in a small kitchen, this is where I’m getting stuck
I have all the Pyrex containers in one drawer. The glass jars we also use for drinking glasses for the pints and pint and a half so over the years I got rid of the Tupperware containers and glasses as I started making the switch over. This is the same house we have been in for 20 yrs now so now that I have a bedroom empty I am able to store my canning supplies in there but that has only been the last 3 yrs we have had space to do so
I really enjoyed your video. I’m glad I found you, so I subscribed.
Thank you for sharing your good ideas ❤.

Hi! Thanks for this helpful video :) How do you get the sharpie off your jar? Does it come off in the dishwasher or do you use something else?
I just use a little dishsoap and my dish wash cloths, they do have a little scrubbing side to them. It comes right off
@@TheCrossLegacy Thanks so much!
So when you are filling your bowls from the the tap you are using unfiltered and adding the vinegar and the water you put in the jars of cilantro and parsley is filtered?
When I am washing the items I use our tap water. When I am storing something in water like the herbs then I use filtered water.
wow! amazing😊love counter depth always
I thought avocados were not supposed to go in fridge. Great video. I got some ideas! I usually buy milk in gallons but when they are half gone I can put into a smaller container. Often I wait until last quart and put in a quart jar.
They have been in cold storage unless you picked it from a tree yourself.
@@TheCrossLegacy oh. I didn’t know that.
I put avocados in the fridge WHEN they are perfectly ripe...they stay perfect for many more days

It really helps not only keep it fresh longer but room in the fridge
Thank you for all the info. Why do you use the metal lids instead of plastic lids on the mason jars?
I use metal since that is what most jars come with in the smaller sizes. Plastic lids are actually better for berries, but you always want metal for something like a cut avocado or apple that you want to keep airtight.

I just started watching and I signed up with your classes etc. I know I sound naive but where does one start to get where you are at???
One step at a time ❤ Don't overwhelm yourself with trying to do all the things at once. Watch the first lesson in the course. Welcome ❤

Why do you suggest metal tops for mason jars vs plastic? TY 😊

The biggest financial change we did years ago was spread out our grocery shopping trips.
