By the way, there is an option for an ice maker if you want one 😁
Thank you so much for watching! ❤
Thank you for sharing! I sold my house, bought 2018-Coachmen-FREELANDER 28bh for life on wheels! It wasn't designed for FT living, definitely a lot of modifications! Can RV power a residential refrigerator?
@melindadunning3640 It will run a residential fridge if you're plugged into either 30 or 50 amp shore power. If you want to run it on batteries you'll need an inverter
Great tips for organizing even for a fridge in a sticks and bricks!
We love our RV fridge, while traveling our food stays nice and chilled while going down the road with the propane, we don’t have a generator, so we don’t want to run it off of the battery.
Thanks for the tips for organizing however, great ideas.
Great idea for the container lids with the handles! I probably would have just slide them in but men do have to use their toys (drill)!😂😂
🤣 Yeah!
We got rid of our RV frig, replacing it with apartment size frig. We are so glad we did! Have used Dollar Tree bins and baskets for other things but for some reason never considered the handle basket for cheeses etc. Thank you for ideas such as this
You're so welcome! 😊
Thanks for your videos. They are really much more realistic than many others I've seen. I would love to know how to do this in my Winnebago! I also hate the RV propane fridges... I hate just the idea of them. Always have. My question may require a full video - but hopefully it's much simpler than that. What do I need to consider and modify in my Motor home to make the switch? (Let's assume no physical modifications are required for fit - I'm mainly concerned about power and exhaust considerations. ) Thanks again! ❤
Nice channel. Thanks for the ideas.
The first RV we looked at was a used one with a gas refrigerator. The owner had not kept the cooling fins clean: it was covered with dust. My foreign-born wife labeled it a "fuzzy" refrigerator and was adamantly opposed to them. We purchased a motorhome with a 12 volt compressor refrigerator and have been delighted with it. I will have to try some of your organizing tips. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome thank you so much for watching!😊
Hello from central Colorado, love these tips. Had similar issues with our Dometic fridge, definitely does not work while camping at higher elevations. We have a Honda generator which helps while boondocking off grid. Wonderful suggestions. Safe travels
Oh my goodness I'm SO glad you brought that up! I completely forgot that the propane option doesn't work at higher elevations!! Wish I mentioned that. That's a big problem when you want yo boondock in Colorado. Even at just 7000 feet we had major problems with it.
@@MakingMyAbodeOTR Buena Vista is 7930, Westcliff where our 2nd son lives is 8000 +, west of Leadville is even higher
1st of all...I really enjoy your channel & all your helpful tips!!! We just recently went to the quaint Coney Island hot dog spot in Brooksville, FL based on your experience! Thnx we enjoyed our lil adventure. We're about 45 min away, staying in Hudson. Now for the RV refrigerators... ours is like pampering a lil baby. Drives my husband crazy having to constantly check the temp fluctuations & then keeping the RV cooler than normal so the fridge stays cool enough. Pain in the booty! I admire yours & your husband's determination to "get er done" so thank you for all the pro tips on Lowes etc. I want a residential fridge if its for just the quality of ice cream!!! Have safe & happy travels 🧊🍦🍨
That is so cool! I love that you went based on our recommendation 🥰😁 and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have you swam in a spring yet?? Have you seen any manatees? The icecream YES! Our first travel day with the new fridge we tested how cold it would stay with no power by putting icecream in the freezer. It was perfect 👌 There were times we had to resort to putting ice packs in the fridge to bring them temp down 🤦🏼♀️ Jeff said we should've done this a long time ago, it's so nice to not have to deal with it!!
We boon dock. Usually 1-2 week trips. We have a smaller rv fridge, and it works for us. I found an ice tray that has an ice bucket under it, (tjmaxx). One thing I do is package our burger flat and 1.5 lbs a package. This will make enough for 2 meals for the 2 of us.
I agree with you 100%! We had a lot of issues with ours and we had it pulled out and bought a residential refrigerator. Love your videos!
Thank you! We would do it again a million times over 😅
Genius thank you for the ideas!
You're welcome!
Where did you get those flip up rods that help hold stuff in the fridge? Don’t remember which video I saw them on.
@Dronerangerspro That was in the old Dometic fridge, they were built in
Thanks for this! Heading out Saturday for a long trip! One big thing we love about our RV is our 12V fridge. I'd rather add more solar for boondocking instead of propane. We carry an ice maker - but my biggest beef is the ice is "wet" so you can't put it in the freezer or it will glue together.. and it's not very "cold" ice. We love our nugget ice maker at home - but it's not worth bringing in our small RV. Undecided if we will keep it or not. We go through a LOT of ice.
Same here!
We have a Furrion 12V fridge in our RV. I like the style, and I haven't had any issues with cooling or freezing. However, we had a converter issue last year and fried the controls. Thank goodness it was under warranty. Of course now I am worried it will happen again. I use a lot bins and tension rods on travel days as well.
Removing and replacing our fridge required going through the dining window! ❤LauraD
😅 Oh geez!
Lazy Susans have their advantages, but the disadvantage is that the circular shape doesn't use space efficiently. When you're in a very tight space, how can you afford the space for a lazy Susan?
That's true! I only like them for this HUGE residential fridge 😁
Don’t use the shelf liner in an RV fridge because they restrict the air flow and it makes it harder for the fridge to stay cool. In your residential fridge though, it’s fine.
Absolutely great point! 👍
She has glass shelves so it doesn't matter if she uses shelf liners. If it was an RV fridge with the wire shelves it might make a difference.
What about the kind with the holes in them?
@wallashakalla The rv refrigerators that are electric/propane have wire shelves to allow for airflow. If your fridge is a 2 way absorption fridge you don't want to use shelf liner. It could cause some cooling problems. If it is a 12 volt fridge you can use shelf liner because the airflow isn't as much of a problem.
Wow, the reason you have so much room inside is that you have a 17.2cf fridge. We are living FT with a 25 yr. old, 8cf Dometic fridge. You have over twice the space we have! We would lose our pantry if we installed a wide one like this. We boondock almost exclusively, so use a propane fridge. We took the ice maker out to give us more freezer space and now use a portable ice maker as it makes ice much faster anyway. That's our only trick to get more space. A few years ago, we replaced the cooling unit with an Amish model that cools much more effectively than the original factory one, so I guess we'll keep it till this cooling unit dies before we go with a 10cf 12v model that will fit in the same hole this one does.
I really think they don't make things the way they used to...even just 20 years ago! Sound like you have a little gem with that Dometic 😊
you said ice packs for travel days. Is that because you turn off propane like us and the refrigerator uses ice packs to help them stay a bit cooler while traveling????
Yes exactly! But we haven't had to do that with the residential fridge 👍
Our eggs broke on travel days when I put them in those egg containers!
🫨 Oh no! That stinks, we've never had that happen
Try little pieces of paper towel under each egg, it works great.
My husband’s fingers can’t get the eggs out. He’s not very dexterous, so we don’t use it. Plus he’s the one that makes breakfast
Did you have to add an extra battery?
No we did not, but when we add solar we might have to in order to run it on the solar.
