There are so many subtle nuances and micro brush strokes to the scenes Waltz paints. The pacing of his dialogue never feels like he is reading a line because he makes you forget you are part of an audience.

In fact, I watch inglorious basterds years after Django premiered-My “aha” moment was Waltz’s intro in that film. That was my “oh $ht” moment, and realized he was just that damn good LOL.

Once in a generation talent and circumstances. He was a theater actor his whole life up until Quentin went to see a play Christof was the lead role in. Tarantino was so mesmerized by Waltz's acting that he went over to him after the play and after a short chat asked him if he ever considered trying out the moving pictures. Needless to say, after that encounter, we got the best gift any film lover could ask for.
I believe Christofs theater experience and lack of movie experience is actually what makes him such a gem and a unique entity on the big screen. It's the lack of camera in his work that makes him so magnetizing to watch.

Christoph Waltz is probably one of the best actors that has ever been on screen this last century.
I am sometimes reminded of these clip shows here on TH-cam that are named "Great acting compilation" where it is most of the time people in heavy scenes screaming or crying, acting out big emotions. And sure, that can be an achievement to create that performance *truthfully*, that's not what "Acting" is about, it is part of it, but it's not what acting is truly about. It's about conveying truth of this secondary world and inhabiting that world truthfully and inhabiting your character truthfully. Yes, I overuse that word but that is the gist of it. And Christoph Waltz has this way of inhabiting his characters and the secondary world with such truth that it appears absolutely effortless. You can hardly tell that he is acting and that is probably one of the greatest achievements of an actor. You make it appear so natural and flawless that you can barely tell they are acting.
