Thanks for making this review. It's more helpful than other reviews that I have seen. The flipmsiness due to heat is a big issue for me.

Thanks for this detailed review. It really helped me deciding whether to get this cargo box.

My dad bought one of these a long time ago(about 17 years ago) the cargo box is called The Explorer, but is the same cargo box as the Skyline XL, same looks, same construction same flaws. We use it a few times with no issues except the flimsiness, and it is always difficult to mount on the roof rack. One thing to have I mind i believe in the instructions says that if you are going to have this cargo empty in your roof you shall not ride at more than 40mph. The manufacturer recommends to have something inside of at least 20 pounds(a spare tire can do the trick) if you plan to ride at faster speeds. I believe I read that on the instruction manual but that was a long time ago. My dad still have this cargo box but he doesn't keep it on in his SUV roof all the time, just when it is needed. A few years back I decide to buy one cargo box for myself. I bought a Thule 628 Force L cargo box, it was more expensive than "The Explorer" but it was worth the extra price. The Thule was better built, is not flimsy at all. You can open the carrier from both sides, left or right and it does not come with U bolts, it comes with some kind of clamp that you adjust and tight with a knob inside of the carrier(A LOOT EASIER TO INSTALL THAN "THE EXPLORER"). The Thule 628 Force L has been discontinued tho. But if you are in the market to buy one of these cargo boxes other brands and models are out there and they may be easy to install at the roof and better built.

Would you recommend it or spend the money and get a better one. I really like it for the volume. but all signs point to getting something better

If you don't travel much and is on a budget, this is perfect. If you travel alot and budget is no issue, this js is perfect.

How long have you owned it until you starting to notice it got flimsy and not stay up due to the heat? And would it crack if its kept in the heat for most of the time?

@@theotherguy3083 Ok but how long have you owned it and base on your experience would you say there's a possibility that it would or can crack since it's made of plastic?

@@youaskedforit7973 it's been a year. It isn't constantly on the roof rack. But it is durable enough to use when ever we feel like using it.
