Is anybody actually listening? Or are you all too busy looking for someone to hurl insults at - do you feel better now? For the rest of you who are baffled and genuinely want to know what he is trying to say, it is simply this:
"It isn't smoking that we "love," it's the things that smoking does for you" @13:09
He is NOT saying that the solution is TO smoke to make ourselves feel better, because smoking does not make you feel better - smoking only takes away, it only makes you less.
He's basically saying, smoking only makes you THINK you feel better, all the while making you worse off for having smoked.
And so, he says, "when we understand that [having a feeling of being better off] is what is at the heart of smoking, we can create entire new paradigms for a [genuine] solution."
He never said the solution is to smoke. Smoking never improved anyone's life. But he said, there is coming down the pike a product that will actually IMPROVE the lives of a billion people . Right now, that hasn't happened. But the fact that the tobacco industry (nicotine delivery industry) recognizes smoking cigarettes is a BIG problem [hence, the willingness to put out a product such as the imperfect e-cigarette], it's only a matter of of very short period of time when someone actually will create a product that will give people that ability to "escape" from their stresses of the world without damaging their bodies and minds.
Personally, I find that hard to believe and if it did happen - it's in my humble opinion still the unholy sitting in the place of the holy. Because nothing outside of you can make you better. And anything that you give the power to make you feel better, you've automatically given the power to make you feel worse. If it can be given to you, it can be taken away. That is why Jesus said: STORE UP FOR YOURSELVES TREASURES IN HEAVEN [heaven is inside you - not *out there*] WHERE NEITHER MOTH CAN DESTROY OR THIEVES CAN BREAK IN AND STEAL.

Irritating talk. When he talked about the rats I thought his point might be that we wouldn't need to smoke if our lives were more fulfilling socially or whatever but then he veered into this kind of vague "let's design better alternatives to smoking" track and ended with "design is good".

    • @Surfingaliens65
      @Surfingaliens65 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That is the point. Ask yourself Does he even sound sincere? I believe he is probably Philip Morris International Altria Trojan horse. The Tobacco industry would have found it really difficult to launch a product that is intentionally designed to be highly addictive and easy to conceal. They needed to create a surrogate industry to win over vapers and keep the heat off themselves. When JUUL became too big the industry called in their creation to essentially destroy the traditional vape industry then shut themselves down and walk away with the control of the sale and supply of Nicotine intact. Any vaper who used Nic Salts will be the first to start smoking if a ban is introduced.

Good point about smoking being somewhat of a personal soulful experience and that's why it's difficult to give it up. Smokers have identified so much in these personal moments that giving up is taking a part of our day away from us, a very emotional romantic part of the day. I get your point about a friend in the pocket. Exudes personality... That's right on. Your talk resonates my struggles about this habit.

so essentially as you continue to cite facts and repeat your sales pitch about the love for cigarettes or what cigs do for consumers. Speaking in circles about squares, about dynamic thinking have you connected the dynamics about how many generations of ADDICTS this industry and multiple societies has created? Perhaps the fact that those third world countries you spoke of that were sooo happy to receive tobacco to trade because of the grim truth that literally billions of dollar generated by this industry has made the world and those in power too comfortable with the revenue at the expense of public health and ignored cancer, Heart Disease, COPD, etc. I'm a reformed smoker and I absolutely believe that tobacco should be a schedule One drug instead of marijuana! This guy is NOT concerned about the consumer as there is zero health benefits to tobacco. He's more concerned about the dollar like ATC, all federal governments taxing tobacco products, and big pharma.

talk to any ex-smoker, even one that had quit for 20 years and 9/10 will tell you they miss it. smoking is a lifestyle, it becomes apart of your entire life. if you're a non-smoker then you well never ever understand what it's like. Smoking made me feel awful. I smoked for a long time and wasted a lot of money but i loved every second of it. i bought a vape and my cough is gone, i can smoke in my apartment, i don't smell and yet i still get that 5 minutes. it's a genius product and i totally agree with what he's saying.

dunkinking those comments I look for when deciding to buy a product online, this is it, this sounds like a placed comment by the product maker, in what world did his talk make any sense, sure like here and there good sound bites but that’s it, all seemingly random sound bites cobbled together for a long reach argument, I don’t want to miss smoking, it’s the worst thing in the world

So smoking only takes 10 years off of your life? So what's the incentive to stop smoking then? I know people in their seventies who smoke and they are healthy. Non-smokers and ex-smokers are not guaranteed long and happy lives. Maybe their smoking friends will outlive them? I have a mentally challenged friend who claims that he loves cigarettes. He is physically healthy, 65 years old, smokes 20 cigarettes a day and smoking is the greatest joy in his life. His mom is 90 and in excellent health. She lives alone and still drives her own car. And she used to smoke until her mid-sixties. Wow. So if his mom has passed on good genes to him and only 10 years are knocked off his life, he will still reach the age of 80. I stopped smoking, but now I struggle with other bad habits that are just as destructive and I am not sure how I can break free of this vicious cycle. A self destructive person will always find a way to get their self destructive fix.

Austin Cox So many things are bad... Driving cars isn't also particulary healthy. Eating McDonalds neither, Drinking cola neither... alcohol, processed foods, sugar, wifi signals, caffeine... You name it...
The health factor of smoking is not really enough to justify the hate that's projected against it. There's some conditioning of children going on to achieve this amount hate. It must be... people dont even listen to your point if you say something positive about smoking. They dont want to hear it and get violent against the speaker. Just try it out. Say something positive about smoking and watch them crawl over each other to verbally attack you. It's because it's heresy.

Austin Cox It has a relaxing factor. Which is scientifically proven. In stressful situations, a smoker has a place to run to: the smoking lounge.
It also increases focus. and it expands the stomach and slows your metabolism.
Lose from those aspects. The smoker also enjoys the feeling of nicotine and so there is a big pleasure factor. There is a reason why so many people smoked and still smoke... not to look cool. That's only true in high school maybe.

I smoke and one thing I realize is that, really , there's no positive side.
The truth( for me at least ) is that once you are a smoker you need cigarretes to focus and relax or even give you a boost.
The real problem is that the problems only apear when we don't smoke and so we tend to think of the cig as a solution when in fact, the one before was the cause.
It's an addiction and should be treated that way, but the taxes in it is too big of a deal for any governement to take any action.
