Both on your original Steam Deck review video and this has a wrong comment about game resolutions when using external display. On game mode and external display you can play games up to 4K resolution ! Open game page. Open wheel icon and go Properties. Set max resolution for both internal and external display. Done. Now you can set higher resolutions on game mode. This works even on handheld mode. Games can run 4k and internal rendered resolution is downscaled to Deck`s 800/720p display. This is per game settings. So it must be done on each game.
This is the EXACT video I was looking for. You showcased everything objectively and presented an excellent overview. I am now selling my Razer Gaming Laptop lmao
Great video, deserves more views! Screw YT algorithm when I was looking into this subject this video was not in my search results. I have a steam deck for a bit more than a month. I got OLED instead buying a new gaming laptop. While software compatibility might be a problem and good that you mention it if someone wants to remove RO from system and use it to its full potential they are free to do so. For me so far I have not missed anything dock+1440p display keyboard mouse and things are working well. I agree that I would not recommend gaming in desktop mode unless we talk about very lightweight games. For me Opus Magnum (large display with high resolution is a plus for this game) or Shapez (this one does not have controller support) work fine. So for a fraction of the price of a new laptop I got all in one device.
I'm a console gamer and I'm curious about the steam deck. My partner wants to eventually get a decent gaming PC to play things like Crusader Kings, Tropico, Frostpunk, etc and has had a average time with the console version (due to small text size). At the same time, I wouldn't mind a PC for indies on Steam. As the Steam Deck can be docked, I wonder if it would be worth buying one of these and using the docking capability for when my partner wants to play strategy games on a larger monitor at her desk, but then I could play indie platformers in handheld mode like a Switch? Realistically neither of us have alot of knowledge about PC parts, so being able to buy one thing is appealing. I think we would be looking at spending around £600 anyways... Do you have any thoughts or advice?
I think in this particular case a steam deck is probably a good idea. Since you have specific games in mind, why dont you look up the games title on youtube followed by "Benckmark" to see how well they run on the deck. Most Indie Games and strategy games work pretty well all things considered and you can always dock the device and use it a like a desktop PC. please be aware tho that the Steam Deck is optimized for 720p Gaming and that 1080P upwards can have a drastic impact on performance in some games.
i use my steamdeck as my main PC Of course i leave it docked 24/7 and that way i can get the most enjoyment out of it such as keyboard and mouse support and as far as l;ight work it gets the Job done. and now i can play pc games with ease too wich is awesome.
@@HumbertoR no not at all I took my steam deck off the dock and unplugged it and it was fine that of course was when I was putting my 1tb SSD in. Otherwise its fine
@HumbertoR That used to be a big issue with older phones. But nowadays electronics are smart enough for it not to be an issue. Compares to a device with optimal battery health habits, even a device with bad battery health habits can only likely expect a 1-3% worse battery capacity over the lifetime of the device compared to optimal.
You might not know this but with proton or wine, you can basically run any windows app on the deck. The translators are so good! But... I thought I was a bit of a hassle I didn't try yet but I will on my laptop first. So I installed windeck. It's a deep bloated version of Windows that oh my god is it 1 billion times better. I even got the sleep mode correctly
Can you talk about issue with sleep mode, not waking up from sleep, trouble hibernating, etc...? I get those sometimes on Desktop mode and are there any fixes to those?
hi bro :D i need some help if u can guide me plss My question is: Can instale softwars SIG like arcgis and QGIS? I am a scientist who studies vegetation biodiversity and the environment. and i want to use just the steam deck (using joystick or built in pad )
God damn that's great! Coz I hate Microsoft office... They praise it for not reason... Any other program can do the same. Just because is Microsoft?... Jesus one day I pray Linux we be head to head to them, so people can finally have a choice. Linux is free, and light. Macos it's super expensive, and exclusively makes me mad. So steam os... Is blest

This is very insightful information. Thank you. I'll keep your comment pinned if that's alright.

"hey wife, We need to get the kids a computer to do homework on....maybe we should get a Steam Deck???😊"
This is actually brilliant
"phew the kids are finally doing homework. Tome to grab the deck and chill on the couch with a fun game"
*Realization hits*

How you happened to make a video explaining the key feature I was interested in and an hour before I started researching it has blown my mind,
Well I'm glad it happened :) Don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions. I'll be happy to help however I can.
THISS!
