I got mine when I was in grade 11. Loved it for RPG’s. Still have it to this day and it’s a great little device that holds up. It’s wild that it’s going for so much nowadays.

mainly due to scarcity, there only have been 2m units sold or something. -Plus it was very expensive back in the day as well at 99 Dollars, if you adjust it for inflation, it would be around 170 Dollars today, what good quality ones go for these days, so yeah, if you really want one, you're not paying that much of a premium.

Gameboy Micro was never worth it in my eyes, it is a collectors item with limited capabilities.
It's definitely sleek and I love how it looks, but practically I find it difficult to justify paying more than $80-100 for a console like it, which is a price hard to find in today's retro market.

As a hand held console collector and an owner of x3 GameBoy Micro's. Trust me "*", they are well worth it, as it has the best GBA screen ( from the Factory, that is ) EVER ( Even better than an AGS-101, in my opinion ) .
OK, it's mega small compared to the rest, of the GBA line, but it does look good MEGA in the flesh.
If you don't believe me. Look on-line for an IPS screen for a GBA Micro. They don't exist.
Why? Because you don't need one..
      "*" I'm Scottish.. 🙂

I was an absolute idiot in Middle School. I traded my DS for an Xbox that ended up not working. I then also got a GB micro when they went on sale for like $50 at Walmart for Xmas. I showed it off to some "buddies" and someone stole it from me. I remember playing through all of Dragonball Advanced Adventure and The first Naruto Ninja Council game in English class. Lessons learned I guess :(

I got mine while it was on sale years ago. I love it to bits. This is *truly* a device that fits in your pocket. You don't need backwards compatibility if you only play the best gba games. And there are a lot of those. I typically bring 2 games in hard cases and one already mounted when going on a plane trip in the cloth bag you got included with the micro.
I wish I bought an additional one so I can give one to my kid once he comes to age...

Glad to see the Game Boy Micro getting the love it deserves after not getting it at the time but damn these things got expensive! I'm not letting mine go anytime soon. Stick a flashcart in it and it plays GB/GBC games and it's a great little console to throw (gently) in a bag for a trip. Cool video and that's a gorgeous face plate.

  • @nick15684
    @nick15684 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

It's a mixed bag with this one, I appreciate that it's the most compact version of the GBA, but also, it's the most compromised. No backward compatibility is a massive drawback. All it really has going for it is its display, which is a bit more crisp than the GBA SP, maybe even a tad brighter than even the AGS-101, but it's also way more desaturated, which personally, doesn't look as good. The SP's AGS-101 display really pops with those vibrant colors which lends itself really well to pixel art.
The SP is honestly the definitive version, all it lacks is an aux port, but it's basically perfect. The clamshell design is so iconic and serves a great practical purpose of protecting the screen which would otherwise be very easy to scratch. It's fully backward compatible, has a great battery life, it's very comfortable to hold and use, even for long periods.

i'd say if you can get ur hands on a ds lite you should get one of those, especially when they have a broken top screen but work fine other than that, because you can mod them into a gameboy macro. combining that with a omega flash card and putting the ds lite shell on that flash card (so that the card will sit flush in the ds lite) will basically get you a bigger gameboy micro with every gba game you could ever want and a sleek design. and in the end you will spend less than on a gameboy micro.
ofc the advance sp ags-101 is also a very solid choice, being a little more expensive than the mod i was talking about combined with that particular flashcard.
also you need some soldering skills for the gameboy macro mod, but there are tons of videos on that topic, i recommend macho nachos video on the gameboy macro for anyone interested.

It blew me away, especially with the discovery of instant save states! I've bought up a lot of other emulation devices since then, both home consoles, and handhelds, too, and I love it all!!
