Nice shots . Getting more faces in is a great idea . I recall taking a shot in Mexico City in the Zona Rosa of woman’s shoes that were outlandish , but totally appropriate to the setting I saw them . That was over forty odd years ago and I have gone on to shoot people in coffee shops as well as on the street . Hell , it embraces the family , but I have collected a few really wonderful shots over the years and I put them in my photo books along with the landscapes . On a plus side , all this has helped me to catch beautiful family shots . When telling a story the face and the back of the subject can be equally powerful in conveying an event .
Hi thanks for the comment. Totally agree with you on the last point in telling a story. For the 1st few years of shooting street a lot of things were from behind which held no story. But as you say in the right circumstance it can work to create a different mood all together. I’m still learning the true aspect of street photography in time it will be there. Love the fact that you make or made books with your images. There nothing quite like seeing your work in print and others enjoying it.
Thank you. Yeah it’s still holding up in terms of quality of images for web. The only downside to me is the lack of function buttons and and some video aspects. There will defo be more content with it for the foreseeable along with other bits with other cameras.
It’s not always about the camera but how you use it. I spend 2 years using this before I knew I was ready for something else. All the while you have it find your style, get used to setting and know what you wish it had to better understand your upgrade when ready.
Thanks man, yeah I think people tend to want to hear some of the thought process when shooting. Seems to be better than just settings but I’m not sure.
Love it mate, well done. Was wondering, what is your settings on Drive mode, Focus mode, Focus area and Metering? I haven't done any photography since 2018 and back then I was on Canon 750D and/or Nikon D5200, they for sure operate a bit different than Sony. Been trying to find some "live action" settings but I've noticed It's kinda limited on this camera. Still using only the kit lens but I'm planning on street photography and landscape. Would you recommend going for a 35mm for street and keep the kit for landscape for now? Thanks!
Hey thank you for the comment. When it comes to the setting I change abit depending on what I’m shooting but generally I shoot in continuous auto focus. Hi drive mode or single shot. Centre focus. I do plan to put a video together on how I have things set up for different conditions. For street and landscape I would possible look a a wide zone lens to start something like the Tamron 18-75mm 2.8 which is the equivalent to 27- 112mm as that will cover a nice range and will give you that 35mm in there. That 35mm on street will be like shooting a 50mm so u will be pushed in a-bit. I would rather be wide and step closer or crop in in post that being close and maybe not having the room to step back.
@@itsleonsimpson Looking forward to that video! :) That's a good starting point for me at least with those settings. I ended up ordering a Tamron AF 35mm f/2,8 because I got it for $130, so I think it'll still be a good option for me still. I didn't think of the crop factor so that explains why it felt way more zoomed in when I just zoomed on my kit lens.
@@jimmywest1 I have that lens to it’s not a bad lens at all. I don’t think I have shot it on the 5100 though now that I think of it. Yeah I’m just working out how I’m going to put that video together and what would be beneficial for people along with still keeping inline coz I don’t see myself as a teacher but more this is how I do it.
@@itsleonsimpson That's fair! Personally I don't really look for "This is how to do it", but generally more of "This is how I do it and Why". That usually brings what I was mentioning before about "live action". I mean, you're not far off already doing those kind of "tutorials" hehe Maybe get a few clips out on the streets with your chest mounted gopro, voiceover or record while out there, talk us through why you do this and that and kinda just what's going through your mind while doing the composition, and with the gopro show the settings being chosen. I dunno, but that's something I'd love to see in the future. :) Again, thanks for the replies, love the content mate.
Hello, I've been following your channel for some weeks and I'm really glad for all the experience you share with us, specially with this camera a5100. I was wondering whether acquire or not. At the end, my girlfriend gave it to me for 2023 Christmas. I'll try to get the whole potential of this camera.
Oh that nice that your other half got you one for Christmas. How are you finding it so far have you had a chance to use it? Also good to know that the videos have been useful for you. Thank for taking the time to comment and watch.
@@itsleonsimpson Thank you very much for answering. To be very honest, I'm too used to the dial system of the Canon T3i and its slightly larger and brighter screen. However, the Sony a5100 is very light, I can even carry it in my pocket with the lens included and it does not weigh me down much. Not to mention the focus that drove me crazy was so fast! I am delighted with this camera, it is worth every penny and in my case, I am very grateful to my girlfriend for giving it to me. Thank you so much for your videos and content!
Hey false you found it and hopefully enjoying. Yeah I noticed you over on IG thanks for that as well. Always nice to see people like what’s coming out.

Big up Joe. Thanks for the feedback mate. 👍🏾
great video again bro! brave taking pictures of kids though haha
That’s Robin, yeah I know usually I wouldn’t but that one worked in the cortex of the photo I think.
Nice video!!! What grip/cage is on your a5100?!?!? I can't seem to find one.
It’s a cage from smallrig. Very very hard to come by these days. I was lucky to find one on Amazon at the time.
Trying to get into photography and this will be my first if ever, camera.
Nice I hope you enjoy it. Don’t have any idea what type of photography you want to get into?
@@itsleonsimpson maybe some outdoors.. any tips?
Hi Bro, what kind of cage do you use in your a5100's body..?..
Hey it’s a smallrig cage designed for the 5100. Very hard to come by these days but worth searching on used market.
