How This Video Was Filmed on The a5100 | Behind The Secnes
So a few weeks ago I filmed and uploaded a a low light test using the Sony a5100. in this one you will see the BTS of how the video was shot and what went into it just in case it can help any of you out that's new to this camera.
points to remember.
- This cam is ant stabilised so think about you shots can you create movement in post, does you lens have stabilisation?
- think about your lighting as it won't take much for you image to break down in low light. tricks around this crate mood with shadow, grate in black and white if it suites.

Men im a really fan of your work, i Will apreciate if you can post more videos about this camera im thinking to start next year taking some photos to strangers but i don't have that camera yet,but please post more of this videos.
Core that’s really good to read that you’re a fan of it. Is there a type of thing on this camera that you are looking for. I have a few different things with it coming up. But most will be pov stuff after that unless there’s anything specific.
@@itsleonsimpson Dude I'm glad that you answer this, Sir I will appreciate if you can post something how to set up some settings and make some good photos and maybe some piece of advices to start on this world of photography stile and once again thank you to answer this
@@jacobvasquez4580 that’s ok. Not sure if you have seen but there is a video on channel of how I have the camera settings. Other than that would only be the setting on a shot but that may not be useful as that can change on the day depending on conditions.
@@itsleonsimpson I'll make sure to look for that video, and also that I would like to know is if you can provide what is tool you use to to edit photos and videos when watch yours vids thats pretty dope and I would like learn more about since I trynna get a position on marketing, that might helpful but please try to post more videos with this since this is the one that I'm trynna get thank you in advance.
what lense bro?
There was a mix of lenses in this one. Tamron 35mm Sigma 14-24mm Viltrox 85mm
Hi Leon. Were you doing things any differently because you were shooting in another country compared to being in London, was it a relaxed vibe, an anxious vibe or just the same? I liked the night shots and the colours suited the architecture. I look forward to seeing the follow ups. Laters...
Hey bro. Ummm you know what looking back I think I did shoot a little different. On the street side I defo kept abit of an eye on what was going on around me. But also want to bothered with those images as there weren’t my focus. I done the landmarks and self ports for memorise etc. I would say nervous at first but that’s was down to solo travel as well. Once on flow it was like everything was blocked out and just me the cam and the objective. 100% with the night shots. But I’m a night shooter to. Hopefully I can get it edited up soon. So much to do for that one. 😴
Hi, you've got excellent taste for composition & depth. Is it a5100 has good image stabilizer or the default lens has stabilizer? 40 years ago i was photographer then got hypertyroid, my hand are shakin without tripod. Need small camera for traveling, a5100 or m100? Actually my son who will take a shot 😂
Thank u. Na this camera doesn’t have stab. Its only the lens if a stab lens. Humm I don’t know much about the m100 after taking a look for photography it doesn’t look like one that would suit me but that’s me. I would be looking at the available lens for it. If there reasonably priced and has what I want. But I wouldn’t rule out a point and shoot with a good 24-70mm range. Especially if weight is an issue for you. lol see how you son feels with that one. Could be to small lol.
Hi Leo, because of you used A5100, I have question. Did you have any problems with white balance? I know that you are shooting in raw… But still I have to try😅
Hi no I can’t say that I did. My only problem was remember to change it on the situation. I could often correct in the edit if needed to. But more just a case of remember to set it while out.
@ Okay thanks😇
nice video, i need to put the subtitules because my english is not good, but i enjoyed this, love this camera maybe my next. Dont quit, its an expensive hobby but it wort, the first mistakes are part of all the process (i have a yashica fx3 super 2000 btw)
Oh really. Thanks for still watching. Very expensive although not to bad once you got what you need and stay away from gear video lol. Oh nice how do you find the yashica? I’m after a canon canonet at some point.
Quality not quantity. Enjoy the moment and all the photography that lays ahead, Leon.
Thank you bro. 100% trying to. 👊🏾
Yassss, small wins lead to big wins! Congrats 🙌
So very true and there all coming to us that’s putting in that work. 👊🏾
Let’s go bro! Big congratulations! That the next plaque won’t take long my bro 🙏🏽🎉 your smashing it
Thank you bro. Haha who know but right now just about fun.
That's amazing bro..... I just randomly found you and subbed recently too. Wishing you the best success! 10k next💯💫
Aww that’s so sick to know. And appreciate the sub and taking time out to comment. Thank you👍🏾
🎉🎉🎉 Big up cousin Leon ✌🏾
Much love cuz. 👊🏾
I tried getting some video footage with my A5100 + the kit lens. It never turns out nearly as good as the footage in your video. Which lens would you suggest upgrading to for photos and video? Also how do you fix the unstable footage, which software do you use? Great content, looking forward to more :)
Hey that’s so nice to hear thank you. Umm to answer your question 1st I think it depends what type of photo and video you maybe looking at doing. Although there is no lens for dedicated thing how and what you do can help decide. As for the 2nd try and be as steady with the hands as possible. Ideally maybe use a gimble, or steady arm. But failing that a neck strap pull the camera all the way out and keep the body flowing with the movement. Software wise I use davinchi resolve to edit. But any software will have a level of stabilisation in there which in most cases will help.
I'm part of the A5100 gang here! The quality is still great!
Gang. Keep repping it until you don’t 👊🏾
Great selection of shots and it's good to know the stories behind it! ⚡
Thanks bro. And for coming over and checking out.
Great video mate!
Thank you brother.
Hi Leon. Reviewing your images like this is a good idea, both for yourself and viewers. The context given to the pictures you have taken enhances them and charts the progress of thoughts and technique. I like the shot of Tower Bridge as it is considered and shows that is something you can do alongside light trails. I think the photo of the Shard with the reflections and random shapes works because of its imbalance more than if it was centred. The woman looking back at you by the food truck would of left me purring if I had taken it (gorgeous colour palette). Enjoy the rest of your week...laters.
Thank you. Yeah that last I’m I have to agree on the pallet it just really looks nice. Pure opinion though lol. And you’re also right about rebooking. Something that of people don’t do they should. I’ll be aiming to do a couple more of these over their few weeks and see how that goes.

Thank you bro. Appreciate that really thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. 🙏🏾
Hi Leon, do you still work with the Sony A5100? And what lens did you use in this video?
Hi yeah I still use the 5100. Got some videos coming out with/ about that real soon. This was mixed with the sigma 14-24 and sigma 24-70 mk 1
This one bangs! Get that 1k sub plaque out!! You’ve put in the work, let’s not sleep on that last image transition too 🔥 keep up the good work bro 🙏🏽
🥹🥹🥹 thank you bro. It’s been a graft you seen that still. You know when you feel like some thing changed this video felt like that with the edit. Grind can’t stop though.
Yessss Leon!!! I can feel the blow up coming bro. Keep at it, it’s close!
Thank you bro. Love this every right here. Fingers crossed we will see what happens.
Loving the vision bro 🔥 keep it coming

The composition look brilliant.
And again thank you lol.
Can't understand anything, mumbelin.😶
@@JudithWinterfeld-t7o apologies if you can’t hear it clearly.
I like 3:40 and 7:10 I did something similar before, and that was pretending my digital camera had a roll of film in it. I limited myself to 24 shots, the same ISO with the same picture profile. It was a fun exercise. I see you're close to 1k, here's one more. Good luck. I don't do a lot of street photography, but I appreciate it. I'm more of a landscape wildlife guy.
Hey. Oh really on the 3:40. That’s fair funny I didn’t feel like it was one of the stronger images. However it’s all subjective right. Haha yeah that does sound like a cool way to do things. And you’re right with it being a similar. Awww thank you for adding another hopefully you stick around and there is something for you. I’m still finding my feet but it’s getting there I think. Aww total other end here never done wildlife. But diving into a bit of landscape now when I get get to better locations.
@@itsleonsimpson right, lol
Interesting idea, challenged my belief that "shooting more" would make a better a photographer. Also, is that the Thames? Never seen it look so quiet, it's refreshing to see
Haha good to get you thinking. I guess it’s a bit of both really shoot more often but capture less. And yeah it is not so much the side of the Thames that people see.
Yes guy!! (Have you been reading my notebook 😂) I've been having the same thoughts lately as well. In the mad rush for content online I feel like I've been losing the soul of photography. I'm also planning a video in the same topic. Keep up the amazing work bro!
I may have had a peek lol. But all honesty it’s just one of them things. Hopefully it’s someone. I do feel like some of the bits I’m getting at the moment are a-bit better. I cought up on your videos today. I’ll have to go back and drop some comments. Those guys throwing the fish were man lol.
Sir what type/variant of lenses that would fit this Sony 5100 i am really interested on this camera 😁
Hi. Well they it takes anything that is an E-Mount. And you can use either the apsc lens designed for this smaller sensor. Or you can still use full fame lens which is an option if you plan to go full frame in the future. Lots of brands to choose from to. Sony, sigma, tamron, Samyang, Vitrox Tt art….
Hi Leon. "Work the scene" as they say and you will get the improvement. Also, try shooting a different genre, still life could be interesting with they way you see things. I like these local industrial images and hopefully they inspire others to shoot locally. Keep the videos coming...laters.
Morning thanks for the comment a pov. Yeah I do think locally that’s more of what it would be like still like architecture self ports possibly very candid images. Doing street with full on people subject may be a bit to hard with possible abuse but we see how we go. But either way the message of slowing to and thinking about things more should show the difference in it self. But defo working it just not forcing it.
@@itsleonsimpson HIi Leon. Sounds good. Also, as a follow up. Which camera that you shoot with is the most fun to shoot with?
Great idea! You could limit yourself to one of those disposables or something where you only have limited shots 👌
Thanks mate. Yeah that’s something to consider. In fact I probably am due to bring the film cam out again soon. Missed using it all summer lol.
Love this bro! Big moves are coming 👊🏻
Appreciate you bro. And it’s really good to know you like it.
What cage are you using on sony a5100, can't find any to buy?🤷🏼♂️
Hi it’s the small rig cage. I don’t believe the sell them any more you will only really be able to find it used.
I might have misunderstood but you can set your ISO range using Auto. Just select Auto, click right and the min and max range comes up, 100-25600
Hi well you can get to your iso settings there but the camera didn’t allow you to set a minimum and maximum. So you have to do it manually which can be awkward if shooting in an auto setting as it can sky rocket the iso.
Hi Leon. Yes to video and the idea behind it. So often people just stay in Westminster for recognisable images. This is great and reminds people there are thirty two boroughs in London. Looking backwards and just taking a picture is good. Laters...
That’s right there’s so much more out there which also just breaks away from the usual thing us London based people see online. Defo one that’s in the pipe like will be the underground as I’m sure there plenty down there to.
Hi Leon. I couldn't agree more.
Hi Leon. This video opens the door for others to walk through when difficulties occur to them. It is enabling because you have spoken honestly about what happened, why, and how you got back on to the path to resolving things. Good points about seeking help from others, and sometimes it can be strangers who, ironically, help the most. I hope things are getting easier since making this video. Eat well, sleep well, and all that stuff.
Hi. Thank you for the comment and taking the time out to watch and even leave a comment. I can say I’m in a much better place than I was at the time of filming that. And was even debating about doing a little update video. Like anything there are always good and bad days but we leave and we move. It’s just a new chapter in life.
Hi Leon. This is an object lesson in working the scene and doing so in difficult conditions when others would of stayed at home. It is always interesting to see what people shoot when they visit popular locations, you did some shots I would of expected and have seen others do. However, I think it was to your advantage you were confronted with a wet, overcast day as it meant you had to get into a certain mindset of beating those conditions to get the images had in mind or discovered on the day. I liked the images you created at- 02:08 06:04 and 10:04 I look forward to strolling around the other videos on your channel. Laters...
Love the content, do you lightroom presets ?
Hey thank you glade you like it. Yeah I have one pack currently available and will be releasing another at some point. There should be a buymeacoffee link in channel page or description.
That camera might need to be serviced. A lot of times the rangefinder on these old cameras need to be realigned in order to get accurate focus. Either way, have fun shooting film. I have several digital cameras, but they have sat on the shelf since I bought a Leica M6 reissue. I’ll shoot that camera till the day I die.
Aw man I would love to try one of those. One day I will when the time is right. I can see why the other have been shelved. You’re prob right about the service but I won’t bother with this one as it’s not worth it in my opinion. Hopefully the next one will be in better condition.
IU. ARR. NOT. SANI. TEP
Just came across your content, have the same camera using it for astro aswell. Subscribed and followed on Instagram. Also from s/e london.
Hey false you found it and hopefully enjoying. Yeah I noticed you over on IG thanks for that as well. Always nice to see people like what’s coming out.
How do you choose RAW on the sony a5100?
Hey in the settings there will be an option to switch from jepg to RAW
This is crazy, I went to my local camera store to pick up some film. I haven’t shot film in a few months because I’ve started shooting street in digital. After some thought I have decided to continue shooting film but only in B&W. I picked up some Kentmere 400, never shot it but the guys at the shop vouched for it. While I was there I seen two Rollies and a Konica C35 V. I’m so tempted to get it so I’m researching it and I see your video shooting it with the same film. Lol
Haha love that. What are the chances of that. If you do go and pick one up defo check the condition of it. I settled for this one in the end as I wanted to shoot in but mine does have some defects which I think effects the images. I need to shot it again to be fair. You know what I may shoot a roll on the weekend.
hello mon appareil préféré le XE4 , cool ta video 👍 👍 hello my favorite device the XE4, cool your video 👍 👍
Thank you. Yeah it’s a neat little camera that one. I do miss it.
📸👏❤️📹👌🎞️
How to respond to this 🤔😂👍🏾🤭
One thing is for shure, that`s not a camera for night photography. That is some really nasty footage you got there. The photos are flatter than flat and have no detail. Better luck with another camera.
I’m slightly confused as to you why you would say it’s not a camera for use at night? Unless you are referring to the action camera. As for flat photos 🤔🤔🤔.
