I believe this is true minimalism 💙 Having what you need and love,no more and no less. What that looks like will change and evolve as we change and evolve. This is just my opinion, it's what has been working for me. Thank you for making very good content 🌞
Thank you so much, R.D. Whitaker. I'm so happy to hear that :) and I totally agree with you. Minimalism really is all about what you need and love, and how different this is for everyone and even for ourselves over time. And I'm glad to hear that this also has been working out for you as well :)
This was also my experience when we recently moved. I wanted to be an extreme minimalist and my husband likes our things. We packed and moved everything, and lived our last month at our old home with almost nothing - basically my dream. And I missed my stuff. I was so happy when we finally unpacked at our new place.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Yes, as much the idea of complete emptiness can be so compelling some of our stuff just is important and also adds quality to our life. It's a good experience to go through :)
Hi Anja! Very true, sometimes having too little can sometimes make life harder. Sometimes I feel like throwing away almost everything but I know I would need most of it...
Hi Lauren! Yes that is so true, I feel the same way, sometimes I really want to throw everything away as well haha :) but living with literary almost nothing for a couple of days was a good lesson. You are right that some things just really are necessary to have
Hi Anja, I just found your videos late last night, here in New York City where I live. I wrote to you last night and you replied! So before I went to bed last night I threw out a whole bunch of makeup and today I did some more. I also went through my kitchen now, and made a pile to throw out tomorrow! My kitchen cupboards already look better and I’m not done. I’ve packed up a big carton of books to donate today also. This is so liberating. I’m really glad I found you so keep making these videos! They are wonderful❤️❤️❤️
That is so wonderful!! I remember your other comment 😊It makes me so happy to hear what you have all done already! Yes, the liberation is amazing. So good to hear about your journey 💕
@@AnjasArtWorld Anja, I’ve done even more today. I have even more books packed up and ready to donate. I can’t throw out books as I think they are so valuable and others can enjoy them but I’ve read them. If I have to, I can buy one of those again, if I want to read it again but I probably won’t. And I’ve packed up more clothes to donate, clothing that is itchy or uncomfortable. I’m now going to wear what I’ve got and not buy more for a long, long time. You should see my kitchen cabinets. They’re now more than half empty. You could be the best thing that ever happened to me because you made me see things in a whole new way. Thank you for that.❤️❤️❤️
Hi Anja, you make a very interesting point that there is point at which you are living with too little for you to feel comfortable. The great thing about minimalism is that, that point is different for everyone. I think you showed this really well. 🙂
Thank you so much Rochelle! Yes, That is totally true. The good thing about minimalism is indeed that it's so personal and that for everyone this point of comfort can be different and/or that it can also change over time :) I love the flexibility of it
Nice video!! You raised some good points. I have a family so my house is not as minimal as I would prefer. Still we have moved a lot and can fit everything we own in a truck and car. As a family we own 11 pieces of furniture total (no dressers, side tables, coffee table, couch, end tables, etc). We keep our tech to 1 laptop and our phones. My clothing all fits in 1 suitcase. Where we have more "stuff" are hobbies, books & plants.....which I am good with.
Great to hear how you're living according to your values :) and it's definitely worth it to have stuff that bring value like hobby material, especially with a family. Some things just really are enjoyable and bring much value. I also keep on experimenting with what I use a lot what I like to do as hobbies and so forth.
I‘m traveling for months now and it made me realize that I need some things. I miss my furniture. I miss my well equipped kitchen and homecooked food. I miss having more than 5 tshirts and 1 pair of jeans. I miss my plants. I feel like I have just the right amount of things back home now, except for maybe a few things I don‘t miss.
Beautiful said! Certain items can bring so much value to our lives. I noticed the same thing when I was deprived of my stuff for just several days, I just missed the things I had. I can image how strong this feeling must be when you are traveling for months, and indeed what you said, sometimes we have reached the state of having just the right amount of stuff!
thank you anja, for your bread recipe and all of your suggestions -- for helping myself-- i will investigate -- be really careful--and i know you take good care of yourself. i'm going out today and get some extra food stuff-- so i won't have to go as often in closed area's.you are always helpful--your friend--deatra
Very interesting. 👏 Well done! Thanks for sharing! I am living out of a backpack right now and I can't wait to call myself an "extreme minimalist" - I am not there yet. (in my opinion) But I am working on it! 💪
Wow, how strange that there is no floor. I am in the U.S. and unfortunately here in rentals they have a fetish for putting carpet in places. It’s terrible. I would rather have no floor and just put down what I want.
Yes, the floors are a strange thing here! But those carpets don't sound very pleasant either, then you're absolutely right it's much better to be able to at least put your own floor into it.
hello anja--again thank you again for your inspiration. why is there no flooring? i understand your mother has a utube site also. how do i get to that--do you buy your vitamins in shops or order them? you are really helpful--your friend --deatra

Hi Deatra, that is so nice to hear :) The flooring is something typical Dutch. We can get fines if we don't completely empty out everything from the homes (including curtains, lights and flooring, it must be completely empty and just concrete) Otherwise the renting corporation will have to remove the floor and they can charge a lot of money for the labor. Sometimes we do have the opportunity to arrange things with the new residents, but most people take their floor to their new homes, because changes are high that there is no floor there either, or they literally sell in online). I know it's very strange and also not practical ;) Yes, mostly I buy my vitamins online from Dutch companies. Personally I like to use: vitamin D, K, B12, Iron, Selenium, probiotic, astaxanthin. And I also use Quersetin, zinc and vitamin C combined (I have heard many good thing about this combination for the current virus. TH-cam does not allow talking about this too much but if you are interested you can Google it) My mothers cooking channel is indeed Lectin Free Recipies, this is the link to her cooking channel: th-cam.com/channels/SaManCU0z_Tx3Prol_hxFQ.html
Thank you so much! Yes, sentimental items are the most difficult to me, and I don't want to live completely without them. I keep a box with some things, but in the last year I have repeatedly looked at the things I kept and realized most of them weren't even that important to hold on to, so I made pictures and now I have very little sentimentals left, but still some! I have decluttered all schoolbooks, letters and cards. The things I felt were important I scanned and have a digital picture of it. But to be honest, a lot of them I just wanted to let go even without pictures. It was very scary to do, because I was afraid to lose important memories but I felt so liberated afterwards, and until now at least, no regrets.
@@AnjasArtWorld I've just got rid of some things from my childhood that I'd been holding on to for no particular reason (schoolbooks and cards). I found that I didn't actually enjoy looking at those items, I think I just felt I was expected to keep them, but I've realised that's really not necessary. Will be tackling some other items over the next few days! Although I'm actually fairly minimalist already compared to lots of people. In the future would like to downsize to a city centre apartment somewhere, so the less stuff we have the better.
If you feel like this in the meantime you can decorate empty places with small natural objecs like branches from brich and pinecone, stones... this will change the mood. For those few kitchenware I wouldn`t buy a dishwasher. Just try to clean after use immedeatly this is no effort and takes less time than using a dishwasher ;-). Stay safe and blessings
Thank you so much, josinora, yes, I love your tips for decorations. I'll keep an eye on it ;) You stay save too and sending you blessings too!
Cool! Not much stuff when you move. I wish I had that amount, but no. I'm still attached to more nostalgia things I really should get rid of. Why is it so difficult? I mean, they are just there, not doing anything special. I don't even look at them very often. Really silly. :) :D
I know, nostalgic things are so difficult! The attachment can be so hard to let go of. Something about a fear of losing it, even though, as you said we don't even look at it that often, it still feels so 'safe' to keep it, in case we feel the urge or something :) I also really struggled so much with nostalgic items, and I still find it the most difficult physical area.
@@AnjasArtWorld It's strange how we human beings act and think or don't think. Attached to THINGS. But some things just do have value as in nostalgia. So hard to get rid off. lol!
@@Bumbledora Yes, it's so difficult! Especially when so many feelings are connected to certain objects. What to keep and what not, it just remains a difficult question. Though I do find that it does get easier and clearer over time even with the most sentimental items :)

Haha yes! 😂 Like a carpet, vinyl or wooden flooring or something. Mostly you get an empty concrete floor. It even says in contracts that you must remove the floor when moving out en leave it empty. Sometimes people can 'resell' it to the new residents in the contract, but this doesn't always happen.
