Right! It's that feeling of "oh, I found this thing that works really well, who knows what else is out there that could be even better!" 😢 It's really just a form of fomo, and these companies thrive on it.

Then we need to actually get started in the Creating for Real - but equipping ourselves for that journey is so much more without risk, yet still feels like forward momentum. I have, it seems, just about every tool available to me, as well as books, lessons, and theory. But actually following through on my interest/hobby/passion feels stiflingly difficult! I have been really interested in minimalism for 7 years. But to be honest I didn't start implementing it until 4 years ago. It has taken me years to get to where I am today and I feel I will continue getting better. This was the year of decluttering my whole home. I knew with the arrival of my baby I needed to get busy. I had done certain areas but never my whole home. I am so happy I did. I already started making some short term goals and long term goals for 2025. I learned that it not done overnight process. We all have to start somewhere.
Oh my gosh, I could not agree more. I think I mentioned in the video that it could take years to nail down a good system...and I mean it! Minimalism (in many cases) is NOT an overnight process; to me, it feels more like a skill that needs developing over time! That was certainly the case for me (it took me YEARS to figure out how to actually live minimally). I wish you the best of luck in the coming years as you move along your journey. :)
Several instances of moving all lumped together in the past decade or so made me want to shift towards minimalism - but the biggest thing was how stressed I now find myself getting if I lose something. It’s pushed me to be so much more intentional about storage, accessibility, visibility, and clutter that is both seen and hidden. I really do struggle with letting go of things though. I get annoyingly emotionally attached to objects -whether they’ve served me well, not served me enough (yet????), were a gift, were a guilty impulse purchase, unfinished projects, unread books… watching inflation go up and up, I struggle to get rid of anything because I don’t want to have to imagine repurchasing something similar if I regret it! 😢
Hi! I think most people (minimalist or not) have dealt with either some or all of those uncomfortable feelings you mentioned. Thank you for sharing your experience! I hope you find a balance between keeping certain items and letting others go that serves you well as you continue on your journey!
as someone who's been trying to live low waste for a few years now, this is basically the same system i've been using as well (except you put it into actual words!)...you're very right about systems changing over time, especially since we change over time...i've had to make my clothing system more flexible in some areas as my style and preferences have changed (i've started wearing pants again after avoiding them for a long time because of sensory issues) and i felt guilty for having to buy new clothes (e.g. job interview clothing) because my system was too rigid and yet missing the essentials at the same time, so it's definitely important to allow yourself some leeway!
I am so glad you appreciated that section of the video! I think it's necessary to have some flexibility as your taste and lifestyle changes over time :)
I agree that formulas are key, i just wish they were easier to zone in on! Would love more detailed videos on your process for coming up with formulas in various categories!
I agree with you so much. The areas where I have a system work way better. For example I have a work clothes system of 3 pants, 3 skirts, 6 tops and it works very well and I only replace if needed. My love for beautiful dishes and total lack of system is whole other things😂😂😂 But, I did see a good idea of developing serving sets for all family members and potential guests, so I am hoping this will curb my endless pursuit for more:))
You know what this is amazing insight! Everyone has areas they want to improve upon...I sure know I do! :) I hope that method works for your dishes! Let me know how it goes :)
I have been trying to implement minimalism in my life for so long and I've always failed. The flavor of my brain needs exactly what you're offering: FORMULAS!!! I am floored with this concept and I can't wait to try some of these things from your other videos out for myself! This is where it all begins 🎉
Great content! I've never consciously thought of it this way, but listening to this, I realized I do have some areas that stay well-curated because it's very clear-cut to me that I have what I need of those items, I love what I have, and I don't need more. Other areas, however, have gotten out of control. I think that thinking about consumption this way may help. Thanks!
That's so wonderful to hear you think it may help! :) I am definitely the same...some areas are more streamlined and some could use a little work! It's definitely a journey!
Hi Hanna! While I was a maximalist and have accumulated a lot of stuff, I'm only getting rid of things that no longer serve me. Since I did spend the money, I would like to use them up, lol.... For me, the process will be long and I'm ok with that. I no longer bring things in my life unless it is replacing something and I have no other backups. Like you said, it's about being intentional and that really is the key takeaway. These past two years, I have spent the least amount in my life and I can't tell you how amazing it feels! I don't feel deprived of anything nor do I feel like I'm missing out on the newest and greatest release, lol... Thank you for the encouraging message in your video.
Hello again! Thank you so much for your message! You know what, I think you are very wise. Being a past maximalist myself, I can resonate with what you are saying. I've seen both sides of the fence (holding onto too much and getting rid of too much), and I must admit, a happy middle ground has been the most sustainable and reasonable approach when it comes to my personal journey...and it sounds like that's case the case for you too! Thank you for your thoughtful comments as always
Great video! I was a minimalist before minimalism was a thing, but you never know when you'll find a great piece of advice or a new way of looking at something, so I've been watching a lot of minimalism content for years. So many creators just basically seem to regurgitate what they've heard elsewhere, but you stand out because you've put so much thought into creating systems and methods that work for you. I love your unique perspective, and I always look forward to your videos! P.S. The new haircut looks really flattering on you!
Hi! This comment really means a lot to me. I just genuinely want to help people, and these ideas are my way how for now. Of course, these videos won't be for everyone, but even if a few people are inspired, that's all I can ask for
I like the idea. For me, it would be helpful to have more examples of the systems or some instruction/ „how to“ for setting up a system that suits my personal situation.
That's exactly what I intend on doing in separate videos! So far, I have my makeup and clothing formula updated on my channel, but intend on doing more as time goes on :)
I find this method is also what I do with food! My consumption is so minimal and consists of the same things bought and eaten on a consistent basis. If I didn't do it this way, I honestly would want EVERY item in a grocery store that I lay my eyes on! For home items, clothing etc I'm still at the curating stage, but it's coming along! I hope to get as well versed at it one day as you are! Thank you for this video!
Actually, we are the same with food! To be honest, we got pushed there due to dietary restrictions, but it has helped save time and money. I will say though, my husband is an incredible cook, so it never feels like we are eating the exact same meals all the time! I am sooooo lucky
I got into minimalist living several years ago when my kids were adolescents. Then I had two more babies, and the level of attention my systems require is too high. I declutter, but a lot has crept back in. I feel frustrated sometimes, but I am glad not to be swamped by the things I have minimized..
I'm glad you are still seeing the value of minimalist living after all these years! I completely understand not being able to dedicate attention to systems if you're a busy momma! Just go easy on yourself, go slow, and do what feels right :) we all have different seasons of life!
I can see how this rule can be so helpful, I have been implementing a bit of a system in my kitchen, because I notice things pile up very easily in this area, so I am making an effort to have things that serve multiple purposes and try to not bring new things unless I really have to. My husband and I also love to host, so we decided to create the party box where we can keep some special plates or decorations to host people over, but we want to keep it within the limit of the party box 📦 by the way you look so gorgeous on this video Hanna 🤩🤩🤩 I am catching up on this last 4 videos you have upload, really your content is the best 🩷 my husband and I are back in the PNW and it are so happy to be back here. I hope life is going well for you too 🩷🩷
See I love this! It makes total sense to keep hosting items if that's important to you and your husband. Keeping it to a box can also be helpful for it not to get too overwhelming! Very smart, Sara! Love the idea :)
I’ve been struggling with minimalism for years, with me I struggle with skincare products a lot, the problem is I always want to try new things which is very difficult for me, it’s very hard for me to just stick with one thing.
I definitely understand and have been there! I try to have a one in/one out rule for skincare, but of course, this is just for me personally, and everyone has very specific skincare needs!
Well done, I am also using a minalistic system for all areas of my life, it has brought a calm and peaceful assurance to my life. I am currently getting together a healthy diet with foods appropriate for my health needs and benefits.
What ive found to be the problem is 1) the upgrade problem, i have an item and i want to replace it something with something better, so i keep buying more until i find the 'perfect' one, which doesnt exist of course. Or 2) the panic that they will change something. For example, i found some shoes i really like and actually fir my feet for once, i bought 5 pairs. Or my shampoo is really vibing with my hair and im scared theyll change the formula, so i buy too many. They changed the moisturizer my face liked and i haven't been able to find anything since that doesnt cause me to break out or isnt too greasy.
Hi! I completely understand and have felt those feelings before...you're not alone! Would you like my input on what I do personally to combat these issues?
I think I've always only had about five pairs of shoes. Currently I have Xtratufs, Baffin's winter boots, Sneakers (requirement for work and summertime), Bear Paw boots and a pair of cute cow slippers. I guess I also have my wedding heels. I live in Alaska so I prefer having warm and/or dry feet over having super cute shoes. It isn't practical for me to have a ton of shoes if it's winter for over half of the year and then it's rainy during the summer. I'll probably get a pair of sandals for summer as my feet get too hot in July, but those will rarely be used so I'll probably get inexpensive ones. I think I've always kind of tried to have less and less. Whenever I realize I have too much of something I go through things and donate what I don't wear or use. Thanks for the video!
Back years ago when I “moved in” with my fiance, I had 1 drawer at first since I wasn’t really moved in properly. I had 3/4 outfits, 7 pair of panties and 3 bras. Makeup; a mascara, 2 eyeshadows, lip color, lip balm. Necklace, body piercing jewelry I never took out, 1 pair of shoes. A perfume and lotion. Tweezers, razor, nail clippers, blackhead popper. My game boy games and game boy, Nintendo ds and games for that. Phone and charger. It’s all I needed. I eventually grabbed the rest of my things as we moved into a place together, but at the time he was living with family and I moved in with him at 16 because my home life was bad. We got some of my furniture; 3 of my 3 drawer boxes to store things we needed and got a dresser from my great grandmothers home when she went to a nursing home. The rest of my things stayed where I grew up until we went to move out of state. I then downsized everything in a matter of 4 hours time. I looked through everything in front of my mother who I barely saw much in about 5 years or so and she was surprised seeing how easily I could go through items like that. I hadn’t seen it in that long, I knew I didn’t need it or could do something with it. A kept a few things because I was looking for them but the rest were gotten rid of. Accumulating more things again since having 3 kids and having had a business with my fiance a few years back but it’s alright, lmao. 12 years together this December. Nobody thought we’d make it due to age difference but here we are at 28 and 32 with 3 kids. He’s not the ones who abandoned them either. They are 🫠
Thank you kindly! Honestly, I don't think a single thing would still be available that I own except maybe that greenish dress (from Amazon); about half my dresses are gifted, and the other half are quite random places. My favourite places to shop in general though are Aritzia, Everlane, and Lululemon. Hope that helps a bit!
Great minds think alike 😂 l have similar schemes one daily shoe each for winter and summer, a few formal wears ( l think about ten but that is because I have three daughters and we have a general store and would wear whatever goes with the outfit) . We also have a general storage of jewellery for weddings etc .

When I watch a video like this it’s as if the person and I are visiting over coffee and would like to ask you (please take this as a gently asked question - do you would wave your hands around when talking and sitting across from a friend over coffee? I’d like to encourage you to decrease that motion some. ❤ The words are a good share.
Here I was thinking I was the only person!!!! I was noooooot sure this video would resonate with anyone. Seriously so glad this helped define what you are already doing. :)
I really love your video and the idea of a system, I already do this for example with bath items. I have a lot of old and broken shoes and I love the shoes you have shown. I know it’s against the idea of minimalism, but could you name me the shoes?
Hi! Many are not available anymore because they are so old, but I have all the information in the description box of my shoe collection video on my channel :)
My problem is that I still need those specific items that fill the purpose (for example an outfit for an event that's dressed up or the perfect jeans) and I am ordering clothes every 3 months (I was at a point where it was every month multiple packages lol) tho try and find those perfect items to fill my gaps (also like really warm winter boots, fall boots, event shoes etc.) but I'm never really happy with what I've ordered so I always end up sending everything back and have the feeling of stress to finally fill those gaps and be done with constantly searching for them😮💨 I'm even considering getting a personal stylist so she can go find those items for me because it takes up so much of my time and stress. Any tips for me, anyone?
Hi! A personal stylist is a great option if you feel like that service would be of good value to you. I also have a video about my minimalist wardrobe if you're curious (certainly not for everyone, but just wanted to let you know in case it's of interest to you!). My biggest tip would be to actually physically go into stores to shop if that's a possibility for you. I almost always return when I buy online too, so I opt for shopping in stores (mostly) now!
Hi! The rule is to have a system, but I have many examples of systems for certain categories of my life if that is of interest to you! I have videos on clothing, makeup, accessories, jewelry, bags, shoes, etc. :) if you'd like specific links just let me know!
In recent times I bought alot of korean skincare. Then suddenly I started to really disagree with using these types of products and I wanted more natural products. I want to throw all the stuff away (it gives me break outs) but I feel so bad about wasting money and recources. What to do?? Anyone got tips?
So I am no expert at all...but this is what I would do. Firstly, I would try to isolate what was actually causing my skin harm (breaking me out). Once I found out the culprit(s), I would likely use up the parts of the skincare routine that were okay for me (unless you really feel called towards natural products who I totally understand!); for the rest, if it was possible to properly sanitize them, I would offer them to friends and family who seem genuinely interested in those products (but I would of course let them know of your not ideal experience with them). If no one wanted them, I would dispose of the products that you weren't reacting well to. After they were used up, I would move on to natural skincare products (like you mentioned wanting!). Again, I am by no means a professional or expert or anything, so please take this all with a big old pinch of salt!
Agree with Hanna as to giving products to friends or family if they are interested (and sharing what happened with your skin)and remember the money is already spent so if no one wants it just get rid of it! You don’t need the stuff “yelling at you” just because it didn’t work for your skin - and go natural. Maybe it’s just me that feels like stuff is “yelling at me” if I end up not using it and it sits there…staring at me. 🫣😉 I bought makeup that I don’t usually wear to go to my son’s wedding this year. Talk about hard to figure out what is the best blush…so when I returned home after the wedding I called up a girlfriend who decided her grandkids (in their 20’s) might have a use for it. Not eye makeup for safety reasons of course, blush, face cream, nail polish. I’m happy to let it go and will not berate myself for the dollars spent. ❤
What gets me with skin care and makeup is wanting to find something that works better. That can suck me into trying a new product.

Can't wait to share more! I do have a few already up already too if you're interested (my makeup and clothing formulas are freshly updated!).
I love love love how calm and straight to the point this video was. Instantly subscribed!
I'm so glad you got something from it! :) Welcome to the channel fam
I agree with you so much. The areas where I have a system work way better. For example I have a work clothes system of 3 pants, 3 skirts, 6 tops and it works very well and I only replace if needed.
My love for beautiful dishes and total lack of system is whole other things😂😂😂
But, I did see a good idea of developing serving sets for all family members and potential guests, so I am hoping this will curb my endless pursuit for more:))

Oh my gosh thank you!!! I really hope this helps you (even if it's just in a small way). Let me know how your formula journey goes :)
Of course, these videos won't be for everyone, but even if a few people are inspired, that's all I can ask for
Great video!
Good systems make all the difference!!
Agreed! :) and thank you kindly!
@@HannaMicheleRoss 🎉 nice!
This was a very helpful video. Explaining to the viewers that this is a systematic process is the encouragement that many viewers like me need.
So glad it was helpful! :) Thanks for the kind comment!
I will have to think about this, I do love a good formula.
Thank you queen for getting straight to the point
Only took me over 2 years of having this channel hahahaha!
Thankful I finally found a minimalist content creator that I resonate with to the tee!! Looking forward to the next vids!❤️❤️❤️
Ah! Thank you so much :) I hope you find some value here!!!
What serves as a barrier for me to further declutter and downsize is the no buy rule for me. If I will throw the extras, I have to purchase again.
No or low buys are great! Excellent method for sure :)
I hear what you are saying and can totally relate to the Upgrade and Shoes stories! You are not alone. ❤
@@HannaMicheleRoss have you put together a post concerning these problems. I also can relate. ❤
happy birthday from mister erics students we love you have an amazing birthday
This video was so informative, cool and different 👍
Thank you kindly :) so glad you liked it!
They are 🫠
I love this!! Thank you so much 🤎
Glad you like it! :) Thanks for watching!
thankYou, great insight!
I'm so glad you enjoyed :)
Love the brown hair on you ❤
You're so kind! Thank you :)
I love your videossss
Oh I'm so glad! Thank you kindly :)
Ilove this idea❤
Thank you kindly :)
Thank you for what you do. Love your videos. Can you share your clothes brands or where you bought it. The dresses are so pretty
Three daughters!!! How beautiful
hope you have the best day ever we love you 🎉🎉 enjoy your birthday
Have you hear of Toyota Manufacturing. Your system sounds like it could really benefit from 5S; it is amazing. It's as simple as that. I implement 5S into all facets of my life, and i'm currently trying to teach my partner it.
Happy Birthday 🎉
Hi! Great video and very realistic advice! New follower!❤
Thanks so much! Welcome to the channel fam :)
When I watch a video like this it’s as if the person and I are visiting over coffee and would like to ask you (please take this as a gently asked question - do you would wave your hands around when talking and sitting across from a friend over coffee? I’d like to encourage you to decrease that motion some. ❤ The words are a good share.
you put words to what i've been doing; formulas for categories ✨ i think our brains work the same way
Here I was thinking I was the only person!!!!
Your hair looks so healthy brunette!
Thank you! Back to my roots..literally haha
First time here- I enjoy what you’re saying in your video😄 (FYI-this video would be more flattering for your pretty face if the camera was higher)
Thank you kindly for the constructive criticism (and compliment)! I will take it into consideration for upcoming videos :)
we love you!
Happy Birthday
Once I find a clothing item I like, that fits and is a good color for me, I buy _MULTIPLES_ of it! My goal is to not have to clothes shop for years 😆
Hey Hanna! Could you tell me where did you get the heeled sandals from?
Hi! They are from Le Chateau but I don't even know if that company exists anymore!!! They are so so old haha
My friend said to throw everything away . I am tempted 😫
I'd say start slow if this is new to you! See how it feels and go from there :)
What was your formula? 😊😂
I have recent dedicated videos on my wardrobe and makeup formula if that sounds of interest to you!
@@HannaMicheleRoss ok, thank you
Hello, Are You Gonna Make a video formula about books?
Probably not! I don't find that's an area my family is minimal in (nor card or board games).
I almost always return when I buy online too, so I opt for shopping in stores (mostly) now!
lockdown helped for those People that prefer to shop direct from the shops.

Absolutely! A silver lining :)
Well that's a lot of shoes M'am 😅
Absolutely to some! It's just what is working best for me right now :)

An example of a rule would be helpful
