That’s the least hideous Mini EV I’ve seen yet, getting rid of the horrendous acid yellow/ green accents is the way forward. Very nicely done.👍 Your quite correct, the car just looks right!

Great color combo- I've spec'ed the Carbon Black Lounge Leather, and I'm sure I'll regret it on hot summer days. Congrats on the Level 3... and your ability to (solar) charge at home is an inspiration. Just one word of caution- I'd used a blower to push the rinse water off of the car before hand drying and found that it worked, but it also blew a lot of debris out from those cracks and crevices. Smooth runnings to you.

I changed my order from red to grey and finally to black with chrome bits just like you. With the new black outer grill, I think the black color option is the best. On any other color, the front just looks too busy and puts too much focus on the black ring of the grill. This color combo will remain a classic for the '22/'23 model years. Thanks for the video.

The louvres in front of the battery rad close up when you drive off in normal conditions. I believe they'll open up whilst driving only if battery temp calls for cooling.

I think the light interior and the mirror caps are well worth having, they lift the overall appearance and I agree that you only really notice details when you’re cleaning! 😎 …. The draw back of dark colours is keeping them clean! I’ve recently bought a Toyota RAV4 hybrid in ‘Obsidian Blue’ with black roof and wheels which is a gorgeous deep blue metallic. It really ‘pops’ in the sunlight but keeping it clean does take some effort!

Very interesting to see another piece of your EV puzzle fitting into the picture. The Kona demonstrated that a long range EV is an alternative to an ICE vehicle. The first Mini electric showed that an efficient car with a modest range can meet your driving needs while being fun to drive. The new Mini electric offers fun driving with luxury trim and low running costs. That is a good choice for retirement, for people who travel long distance by plane and train.

Excellent choice! Like yourself I have just upgraded from a level 2 to a level 3 and love it! Word of caution on the Chester grey leather seats..... indigo dye from jeans stains them! Easy to clean off of the leather facing, but not the quilt stitching which is looking a bit scruffy on mine already and I've only had the car 8 weeks....! Mini don't currently offer a bumper protection strip for the electric version, so I'm probably going to put a fake carbon effect vinyl on it. Mine is chilli red and the dirt just sits on that lip and looks grubby! I love the look of a clean black car, but you'll have to put the hours in to keep it shiny! Enjoy.....!

    Hello Nigel.
Have been a while since I commented.
You doing almost what my brother did with three cars. Should mention, we have cars for ages before there is a shape change of vehicles here in South Africa. So his first one of the three was black, safety film with a tint and some other things. Second and third vehicle came down the road and my response was even before anyone else noticed, as he had a personalized number plate. Walks in, he gets 100 questions of which 20 are just to confirm that I was right. Small nuances that gave away it's a new car. So for 9 almost 10 years he drove the same engined vehicle and switching each time he got to 90k km on the clock.
So get a vehicle that looks so similar that almost no one realizes you have a new car. It just went into the dealer for a repair. And somehow it came out black with the new front end. Would be my excuse.

Hi Nigel, your Mini is a cracker, excellent well thought out option choices, I have played the video back a few times, please don’t tell me there ms a wee scratch on the off side mirror cap? I really hope it’s just a reflection. All the best Nigel keep
    Up the great work 👌🏻

I’m glad you’re happy with it but damn it’s such an expensive car for what it is. I personally think it’s ugly as hell but I know mini has a massive fanbase in U.K., for me it’s a bit marmite. I’ve driven one and it didn’t change my mind. The Leaf gen 1 we have is not a pretty car at all either but it was purchased out of need not to get another diesel not because we wanted it. Crazy prices on cars these days. I’ve paid £37k for my Tesla model 3 in 2019. This is a mini that is almost the same now

Mini is a premium product for sure but it's also a good buy in the lower trim levels, cat prices generally are crazy

Looks fabulous Nigel. I guess it was a conscious decision not to have the green numberplate flash based on your point about not wanting it to stand out as an electric car.

Correct, I chose not to have a green badge, I'm not a fan of them. Similar to your neighbours..

It looks good - much more distinctive than your previous car. I didn't bother with a dealer applied paint coating and have just used a DIY ceramic product this time. It will be interesting to see how it compares with a £500 "professional job". Removing signs of electric power might help you out at traffic lights as you can take the opposition by surprise:)

I am actually surprised you use all those products and rinse them off into the ground. In the US now the environmental thinking is that you use that stuff at car wash locations that capture the run off .

    • @EVPuzzle
      @EVPuzzle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I guess it depends on the chemical content but I don't usually use so much and don't you aerosols. I'd never let a public car wash near my car

@@EVPuzzle I once had an argument with a German work colleague about washing cars at home. In his view car washing (if it must be done at all) should only occur at a commercial car washes where they have the facilities to capture the residues. I asked him about closing nuclear power plants and burning more lignite (coal) to generate electricity but apparently that is OK.

There's always something of concern. Discussion is good but what next, can't use fairy liquid and let it down the drain?
We had to use a flea treatment on cracker a while back and do the house too. Very very toxic stuff with warnings not to let it into the water course!!
We all have to do our bit and reduce everything really ... Whatever we can..
Im more of the opinion if its of concern its the government who needs to regulate it.

But I don't know why anybody would buy a brand new top-of-the-range car and take all the badges off, as if they were ashamed of it! 😕 I suppose this would also explain the non-green number plate.
