    The cuts/vents in the front bumper send the air out of the wheel arch and are meant to smooth the airflow past the wheel and along the side of the car. Also, the 1-6 buttons are touch sensitive, very gently touch them and it'll show you how they're all configured.

    Lighting seems to be been wraponised these days. I find the lights on my car don't complete with many oncoming cars and sitting low doesn't help either. Matrix LEDs seem like a very appealing feature. I couldn't justify the price of the Mini and it isn't convertible but looks very nice, pleased you like it

    Great video, I am glad you have decided to get another mini as I started following you because of your love of the mini EV. Last year I ordered the previous model but was lucky as the garage upgraded me the the later model at no extra charge. I am so pleased to get the latest model level 2 probably one of the first to do so back in April last year.
    I have the new led all in one headlights and the auto dip is so good. Also the upgraded suspension and larger central display.
    I love people knowing it’s an electric car I even got the garage to fit the green number plates as they missed that at the beginning. So I was surprised when you didn’t want people to know.
    Looking forward your next video.

      I'm just awkward or different , there's lots that encourage through emphasing it's electric , I like to show you can go electric without making a statement. Gives the doubters one less thing to moan at.

    Thanks for these informative reviews, mate. I managed to secure a L2 back in November of 2021 via a work salary sacrifice scheme for £321 with no deposit, piano trim and roof rails. Initially cancelled it when the delivery date went form March 2022 to September 2022 🤢 however, turns out I hadn't actually cancelled it allegedly and to my surprise it was still being ordered! I received an email from the Mini dealership in Southampton (I'm from South Yorkshire) asking me to confirm spec before delivery and after how things have developed in the world since November of last year with fuel prices etc etc it felt almost like divine intervention!
    So it goes without saying I quickly confirmed I would like to continue with the order and it should be with me come August/ September and can't wait. Range won't be an issue for me being relatively local most of the time so will happily be able to give it a good spank around the lovely Yorkshire countryside 😁 cheers!

    I’ve come to agree with your take on EVs, Nigel.
    I switched from an e-Golf to an EQA 350 4matic at the end of last year. I convinced myself I wanted a “modern” EV with a larger battery, more range, faster charging and more performance. Now that I have it I realise these things haven’t made the experience better overall, quite the opposite in some areas!
    It’s nice to have ~230 mile range, ~6 second 0-60 and 125kW fast charging but…. I don’t use it! I rarely do more than a 100 mile round trip and, so far, I’ve only encountered 50kW fast chargers on my travels. It’s nice to know I could drive from Yorkshire to Scotland with only a single short charging stop on a 150kW charger, but that’s something I might do once in the next 2 years.
    I don’t utilise the benefits of the EQA day to day… but I do experience the drawbacks _every_ day.
    It’s waaaay more thirsty than the e-Golf was - I’m typically averaging 3.5 miles/kWh in the EQA. I would get 4.5 miles/kWh in the winter with the e-Golf, even 5 miles/kWh with careful driving.
    The EQA is also significantly heavier than the e-Golf and the handling is impacted by that. Where the e-Golf felt planted, agile and precise, the EQA feels floaty and isn’t engaging. The acceleration is thrilling but the fun ends there. Ironically, the ~9 second 0-60 e-Golf put a smile on my face way more often than the EQA has.
    This is a long way of saying… I’ve come around to small battery EVs much like you did and a Mini electric is on my radar 👀

    • @EVPuzzle
      @EVPuzzle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I feel like dancing, I'm not alone any more.. I think humans are like sheep sometimes and they're all following each other to big battery SUVs because that's what the manufacturers want us to buy.
      Resisting the trend isn't always easy but I'll only doubt my decision when I travel to Scotland. Guess I'll have to do that for the channel won't I?

    • @e-trippingwithadamgebbett8024
      @e-trippingwithadamgebbett8024 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Wow I got an e-golf which I had from new. Was looking at a EQA of a model 3 for the same reasons of the time spent waiting for chargers. However now I’m thinking again, maybe the e-golf is better than I thought.

    • @Aaronage1
      @Aaronage1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@e-trippingwithadamgebbett8024 Have to say… I miss the e-Golf. I also had mine from new and put 30k miles on it, loved every trip in it.
      I convinced myself I needed to upgrade for more range and faster charging, but I see now that feeling was driven by a mixture of…
      1) FOMO
      2) My obsessive need to try new tech 😅
      3) “wouldn’t it be nice if…”
      … and not a genuine need.
      The EQA is a fantastic car, I don’t mean to crap on it with my comment - if I really did need the long distance perks I would be over the moon with it, but it just feels a bit absurd driving a 2.5 metric tonne tank around all the time when I don’t absolutely need it 😁 I would 100% recommend EQA if it fits your needs 👍

      @@EVPuzzle we are like you - upgraded, we love the Mini, a lot of people have never sat in one or driven it, but when they do…then they think there’re wonderful, apparently the new design shares a lot of tech with the new X1 so BMW has been busy. I didn’t know about the cornering lights until the dealer told us, with the auto dim option you can leave the lights on full and it paints a box around the vehicle in-front or on-coming so they don’t get dazzled, hence the very precise edges to the light pattern, fascinating. Have you done any acceleration runs with the traction control in the correct mode (DTC, press the toggle and release it), or with it supposedly shut off (press the toggle and hold 4-5 seconds)? DTC is far less invasive, supposedly mimicking a limited-slip differential. Unfortunately, US models will not let you completely switch off the traction control, I guess because their lawyers won't let them.
    All sport mode does is change the throttle mapping, which will only matter if you are not rapidly depressing the pedal all the way. You can still do full throttle in green mode (not sure about G+), just that it takes more pedal stroke to reach that point, which ought to vary the time by a tenth of a second or less.
    In my 2010 Clubman S I would use normal mode in the winter when I needed better fine control in the lower throttle range, with winter tyres fitted. Then I'd use sport mode in the summer with high-performance tyres, though the throttle got so touchy I would take off my shoes in order to avoid over-revving the engine while letting the clutch out.
    I will fiddle with the modes in my SE this afternoon to see if the steering boost is noticeably altered in the different modes.
    My 2022 SE came with Pirelli P7s fitted. They are decent, competent, not quite as tenacious at the limit of grip. The breakaway point is much more gradual, so you should never be surprised. The drawback is that they are rubbish below around 25 Fahrenheit. The rubber compound just loses all hope.
    All the "bad weather lights" switch does is switches on the cornering lights all the time. Switch them on (after reaching halfway to the floor to find the buttons) the next time you're overtaken by a lorry on a motorway. The beams of the main headlamps do not leave a gap close in, so true fog lamps are truly unnecessary. All the posers in the US are leaving disparaging remarks on social media disparaging the removal of a fashion statement. I just wish the company lawyers (and the USA's always-hopelessly-outdated lighting standards) would permit the BW lights to turn on with the parking lamps. If you live in areas prone to heavy lake-effect snow, all these high-powered headlamps do is illuminate a wall of snowflakes immediately in front of the car; you can't see anything. Park-plus-fog would allow you to continue safely at reduced speed, being able to see the sides of the road and not blinded by lighting up all the snow. Unfortunately, the lawyers killed that ability, too.

    • @EVPuzzle
      @EVPuzzle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most people. Avoid the drain by charging the battery at the same time as grid charging on the Zappi. If its a DC connected battery then it's not possible without wiring your system to isolate the Zappi. Think I prefer to drain the battery on a fast charge tbh

    Good round-up. I also think the Harmon Kardon is a waste of money. I think the Lane Judder thing is a new feature on the 2022 model. You can switch the HUD off if you don't like it. I do find it slightly useful. I didn't know about the split screen. I prefer the 2020 foglights rather than the vents. More chrome, and they are lower to the ground so more effective in fog. Their removal seems to be a downgrade. I'm also waiting for the convertible (said to be 2026). You'll need to clean it again now! Looking forward to more videos.

    Lane Departure warning can be switched off/on by pressing the tiny switch with the plan view of the car next to the hazard warning lights switch, a menu will display on the big screen that allows adjustment of front collision warning sensitivity, pedestrian warning sensitivity and the lane keeping warning - adjust using the touch screen or the multimedia knob beside the gear shifter.
    Also with the headlights, if you have them set to auto on then press the lower half of the stalk button on the left stalk they will stay on high beam but adjust the beam pattern automatically so as not to dazzle oncoming drivers. Feels weird driving on full beam all the time! Also with that half button pressed, when you enter an area with street lights the headlights will automatically go to a lower /dipped setting, the blue full beam indicator light will go out and when you leave the street lighted place eventually the lights will automatically come back up on full beam and the blue lamp will automatically re-illuminate.

      If you can only have one car, and you have a $20k budget, don't go EV, just get a Corolla, plain and simple. If you want to buy a car and keep it for 10+ years, don't buy an EV. EVs are disposable. Within a year, the next model is already out with better range, better acceleration, better software. You lease them for 3 years and move on to the next. No maintenance, no oil change, just rotate tires. We are not at a point yet where I feel like you can own an EV as your only car. Even something like a Tesla with range that almost rivals an ICE car there are always scenarios like when it's really cold, range suffers. You need to go somewhere remote where charging network is not as good, you get range anxiety. The reality is, even if a car covers 99.5% of use cases it's not good enough. I think we will get there soon, but not quite yet.
      Now, assuming you can have 2 cars. You already have an ICE car for that 0.5% edge case (road trip to the mountains) and you want an EV for your daily driving. You will come to realize that 99% of your daily commute is most likely under 100 miles. Why then do you need a Tesla with 400 mile range? Assuming it's a 2nd car, and you have a level 2 charger at home, the short range of the Mini becomes irrelevant.
      Yes it's inherently flawed in that, they took the powertrain from an i3 and put it in a chassis designed for an ICE. On the other hand, those same flaws are what make it great compared to other EVs.
      -It's based on an ICE platform, but that means it looks like a classic Mini, which is a great looking car. They haven't ruined the looks by going EV
      -People are turned off by the numbers on paper so you only have a 4 months waiting list and pay MSRP instead of 1+ year wait list with dealer markups for an IONIQ 5.
      -The small battery means it's still a light car and charges quickly on your average 240V AC charger
      -It has an almost 50/50 weight distribution and lower center of gravity which means it handles like it's on rails (no understeer)
      -It has an interior that feels like a $40k car, nice leather seats, very good bolstering, switches and buttons feel quality (It feels like a BMW lite the same way a golf GTI feels like an Audi lite)
      -The steering actually has good feedback. Most cars in that range have a completely numb steering.
      -Most new cars at $40k or less now have 4cyl engines tuned for economy and sound like vacuum cleaners with fake engine noise played through the speakers. You want a manual transmission to get some engagement? Long gearing and rev hang will make sure to kill all the fun. Any cars that make exception to that rule (GR86) are impossible to get for MSRP. Unless you are spending significantly more money to get something more exotic that actually sounds good, give me an electric car any day.
