      @@loweredexpectations4927 I like cold crisp winters, right now it's just wet and grey. It's good for the electricity price though so always something.
      I'm checking Vevor's website right now to possibly buy a more mobile variant "all in one". There are so many with different panels, is there any panel that is preferred? One detail I deliberately chose and will choose again is a large hot air outlet instead of four small ones....I imagine the flow is blocked with four small ones.

    I've been running my chinese diesel heater on spent cooking oil (70%) and diesel (30%). I clean the cooking oil by first mixing it with some boiling water/pork gelatine and let the deposits sink to the bottom for a day. Then I filter it, and run it in the heater. The higher viscosity makes the solenoid pump much more quiet, and burns even better than straight diesel. Diesel here in Europe is even more expensive compared to Canada, so this is a great way to cut the costs. Cheers, Robin

    • @loweredexpectations4927
      @loweredexpectations4927  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment. How long have you been running your heater on this mix ? I have talked to many people who do this and eventually have build up issues. I did a lot of testing with waste motor oil last winter.
      I have used gelatin in a small test batch to clean cooking oil and it works great. Unfortunately, it does not work at all in waste motor oil, haha.
      If Kerosene is the same cost, or less, it is likely a better option to mix with your cooking oil. Where I am, kerosene is 4x the cost of diesel, but many people in Europe run it.

      @@loweredexpectations4927 - WMO and WVO are actually worlds apart regarding build up. WMO really only works well in specialized WMO shop heaters that are designed to burn it properly and not create build up issues. WVO will still cause some build up in a mini diesel heater but nowhere near the level of build up WMO causes + WMO also tends to produce a lot more smoke and obnoxious fumes out of the exhaust port, compared to wvo.

Never took it apart, as I have had zero problems with it so far. The burn is very clean (no smoke at all) and I am still impressed of how well it runs. Running waste engine oil will probably be more difficult due to all the additives. Good idea to test. As I am positive you know these were originally designed to recirc the air in the vehicle so it would take less fuel (recirc warmed air vs heating -12 air up). Not sure how much of a savings that would be.
    Keep up the fun.

    • @loweredexpectations4927
      @loweredexpectations4927  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes... I 100% agree that I should be recirculating ... I had assumed that recirculating air with a 5kw heater would be insane overkill... but after testing I will likely be changing up the setup after some more testing.
      It will be really interesting to see how much difference there is.
      I'm currently installing a 2kw unit into a Toyota 4Runner, that my buddy owns, and we have set it up to recirculate.

      @@donnied6759 For sure... on setting 1, it's always going to burn X amount of fuel. Where it would make the cost difference is when it gets colder and we get more snow. I can run the heater on either smart mode, or setting 1, instead of setting 5 to keep my truck thawed out.
      The recirculating will also allow it to heat up more quickly (I assume)... as of now, the heater has to force hot air into a sealed area, forcing air out. Not efficient as far as heat loss goes, not efficient as far as circulating air goes.

    Oh yeah, I have a Vevor Chinese Heater I bought 2 years ago... I just opened the box yesterday as my old Chinese Heater always worked great. Today I needed to replace my old heater and my New Vevor "All in One" heater Smokes like Crazy and came with a Rotary Voice Controller that I can't fine any information on anywhere on the entire Internet !
    *WTF Vevor !*

    • @loweredexpectations4927
      @loweredexpectations4927  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment, Snail.
      Your rotary controller is not unique to Vevor, and has very little to do with the operation of the heater. These can usually be replaced as a set (ECU and controller) for $30 - 40 ( Sometimes less) from all the usual sellers. Amazon, Aliexpress, Ebay etc.
      I think you are panicking a little too soon. Smoke from your heater usually means either a blocked exhaust of inlet. It could be as simple as cleaning these out / inspecting them, and it may work fine again. If you have been burning only diesel, it's likely not more serious than this.
      You may also need to disassemble the heater and clean the burn chamber / tube, if it is really bad, of if you have been burning fuel other than diesel. Videos about other heaters, though they may not have the exact controller, should be close enough or the same as yours so you can learn how to repair your heater.
      These heaters are completely rebuildable with parts from Amazon, Aliexpress, Ebay etc. Unfortunately, Vevor does not sell parts, only units, but you can easily get parts. You can literally purchase and replace almost every part on your heater.
      Again. I would start with the simple stuff. Remove the exhaust and look inside the aluminum outlet for soot / carbon build up, check your exhaust for blockages. Try running the heater without the inlet and exhaust to see if it operates ok, to help you diagnose the issue. If it still works like crap with the inlet and exhaust removed, then it's something deeper. You will want some rubber gloves.
      If it is not the exhaust or inlet causing the problem, the next thing to do is remove the burn chamber, inspect and clean the glow plug and mesh and clean the burn chamber.... there are hundreds of videos on how to do this.
      I hope this helps. These issues are rarely caused by the heater and have something to do with the setup or operation of the heater. This is also not a Vevor problem, it happens to all heaters, but I understand your frustration.
      Happy to help if I can.

    Thanks for doing this one. Economics of this heater vary depending upon the amount of use. I calculated in the cost of electricity if i had an in car heater. Electricity is nuts in Calgary depending if you have or haven't locked in your rates.

    • @loweredexpectations4927
      @loweredexpectations4927  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There are a few ways to get this cost down, that I have not addressed at all. I am not recirculating air, so I am heating ambient air. That doesn't matter while locked into setting 1, but the heater apparently has a feature where it will shut down when it reaches target temp and restart when it cools off.
      I have not tested this, but someone left a comment telling me this heater has that ability. You can also set it to turn on with a timer, so if you leave for work at 7, you can have it turn on at 5 and run at level 10 for 2 hours ... I'm not sure what would be better / more cost effective.
      What sort of $ did you come up with for using electricity ? Just curious... alos, what kw of heater did you calculate for?

      This particular ECU is self compensating, so there is no way to set it ... however, I am at higher elevation, about 3500 ft, so I assume it should already be using less fuel (now that you mention it)
      It's great that kerosene is cheaper there. It's the opposite here. Kerosene is 4x the cost of diesel.

      Is this comment a continuation from another comment ? I feel like some information is missing.
      These heaters generally do not plug up if you are burning diesel. If your heater is plugging up, it usually means that your combustion air inlet is too restrictive (not enough air) or your exhaust is too restrictive (not enough exhaust flow)
      Restrictions to the exhaust and inlet can be caused by several things. Sometimes as simple as too sharp of a bend in the pipe or some sort of blockage. There can also be more complicated reasons, like having the heater in an area that is too well sealed, a small enclosed area, and area where air is forced in our out etc.

      @@RimjobHimself I haven't been riding bikes much in the past several years. Mostly Jet Skis... I always seem to come really close to death or jail when I ride bikes, haha.

      @@loweredexpectations4927 haha i know. The trick is to have a slow run first to check for any small piggys runnin around and then when you turn its all go ahead. ;) For the death part irs just more about technic and you just said you had been a mechanic for over 30 years now while im watching your oil spill video so you as me do have some visdom under our wings and should be good to go. Just be aware female drivers, they are ready to kill and still be home in time for their tvshow.

    Have you given up with the waste oil experiments then?

      I was wondering who would ask this question first... Congratulations, you are the winner, haha.
      No, I haven't officially given up, but a few big things have happened that means that many tests will be delayed. I had considered shooting a video with my old heater this week, but I simply didn't have time.
      I still have a folder full of incomplete footage and ideas that I started on last year ... I just have to come up with the time to complete them.
