    1 liter diesel contain about 20kWh energy 1 gallon ~4 liter so its 80kWh. its enough for 2-3 days to heat a 120m2 flat. its everything just not efficient. and produce a shitload 2.5nm particles what is highly carcinogen.

    My improvement to my diesel heaters was to add a 12 volt LED light inside the case to illuminate the top of the fuel tank so I can see the fuel level from a distance. I also added a fuel filter on the pump inlet as I had 2 pumps quit by jamming up from dirt particles.

      In that same vein, that@@Bobster986mentioned, you held up something at the beginning of your shoot, we couldn't see it well because it was against your dark blue shirt - in the shade - with a bright background. Your camera's light meter was reading the bright background - which was perfectly exposed, but that was not the subject - you and the product were the subjects. The suggestion of filming against the house is a good idea or, if you wish to keep the same setup and position, using a strong fill light beside the camera would work, too. The beauty of the fill light is in the daytime, there would be no harsh shadow in the background to deal with!
      Great subject and test! Amazing how long that heat ran on low! I may consider it as an option to heat my garage in the winter - run it on high for a while then turn it down lower for the duration! Thanks!

    Nice video.
    Pro-tip: Pressing the two left buttons on the heater controller at the same time puts the heater into "Alpine" mode. A mountain peak icons will appear on the top right of the display. This cuts the pump rate in half and is helpful to keep the fuel / air mixture lean at altitude or to reduce the heat on the lowest setting, when low is still too hot. My 5kW heater is too powerful for my old VW bus on the lowest setting so Alpine mode makes it just right.

    I use it to heat my house cheap. It costs me 80 euro's a month. When I use LNG it costs me 400 euros. And I have it 22°C all day. Don't care what the calories of diesel is. Just care what it cost per month. When the prices got crazy in Europe it saved me thousands of euro's.

    1 liter of diesel contains 10kw of energy. In order to put out 5kw that heater would need to burn half a liter per hour. 1 gallon of diesel contains 139,200 BTUs of heat, if a gallon lasts 30hrs, it's putting out 4,640 BTU/hr of heat. At 11hrs the heater is putting out 12,654 BTU/hr. Other diesel heaters are not less efficient....they merely produce more heat by burning more fuel. Some actually put out 18-19k BTUs/hr.

    • @Richard4616
      @Richard4616 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The diesel fuel burns and the energy is turned into. He said the exhaust is 250 degrees. So half of the fuel is wasted by the hot exhaust and the other half is for heating. If it was built like a high efficiency home heater, you would get somewhere around 80 percent efficiency instead of 50 percent efficiency. But it still makes usable heat.

    • @Walkercolt1
      @Walkercolt1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In the US, "clean-burn" diesel has closer to 130,000 BTU's per gallon (6.6 pounds) and that's what you get at the pump. "Red" (off-road ONLY) has closer to 138 K of BTU's per gallon. The EPA mandated the "heavy ends" be removed from truck/auto diesel in 2018 or so. Some guidelines: A 1500 watt electric heater is rated at about 5000 BTU's per hour. The small unvented natural gas or propane wall heaters (bathroom sized) are usually 10,000 BTU's per hour, so 20-25% more on max. You CAN capture at least 50% of the exhaust heat with a little sheet metal work, so 16,000 BTU per hour is do-able.

    Do you know that diesel heaters and gasoline heaters run more reliably and efficiently at higher speeds. I am not talking cost when speaking of efficiency. They burn more efficiently on high. Carbon builds up like carbon on a spark [lug and the carbon clogs the heat exchanger set on low. Eventually you will get error codes and it will shut off. It will need to be cleaned out. Its not hard but it is a pain and the Chinese heaters are so cheap that many just throw them away and get a new one. Not a good thing to run out of heat when you need it. The solution is to buy a heater sized to fit your needs when run on high. You can turn it back later if it gets too warm. You didnt mention a thermostat or rheostat to control heat. Was there one? How did it work if you had one? I have a well insulated Transit van with high roof and long body and in about 25 degree weather, the 1500 watt (5120 BTUs) does a very good job with a LUX brand thermostat. On the Honda 2000 generator it uses about a gallon of gas over about 8 hours. I tried the heater on it's lower 1000 watt setting and found no difference in fuel usage. Evidently it ran longer at a lower rpm. Honda has one that has fuel injection. This will compensate for elevation changes, something to consider. I am still building the van and hope to use a gasoline heater so it can run off my fuel tank. I have a 2 gallon and 6 gallon tank for diesel I can use if i use diesel. I am not opposed to gas or diesel. Your unit seemed to run very well. Running gas off my regular fuel tank would be the ultimate fuel system. I bought the van with the larger 31 gallon tank so it will run other things or take us further. Fill ups are easy, safe and not messy. Anyway, just mentioning the carbon build up problem, You're gonna wanna run it on high to avoid (delay) problems. Best of luck. This was the first time I saw your channel. Great video.

    I recently purchased this same unit and had similar results. My additions were/are: 200cm (78”) stainless steel exhaust replacement and an 8Ft insulated duct. My purpose was an emergency backup heat source for the home, though I may figure out a way to use it with our camper as it works really well and is quite portable. My testing (so far) has been performed indoors…and I agree about the quiet part. It’s not bothersome (for us) at all. My temp setup has the main unit elevated on blocks on a granite hearth located in the livingroom. Exhaust is routed out a nearby low window and is sandwiched in between two pieces of ceramic tile with the window pressing downward to hold everything in place. I’m running it right now…main house heat is off…it’s 35 degrees outside. Unit is set on 2.5 (which will run for 22 hours on a full tank). The unit is on the main level of the house (main level = about 1600 sq ft) and temp readings within a 15 foot radius are at 70-71 degrees. Temp readings out to about 25 Ft are at 67-68 degrees. Will this heat the whole house? Nope. Is it a fantastic emergency backup that will keep you comfortable and keep pipes from freezing? Absolutely (IMO). For anyone wondering, yes, I have two CO detectors in place…one is a few feet above the main unit and the other about 15 feet away…near where we sit in the living room. Thanks for your video reviews…I enjoy them! Cheers

      What do you mean it won't heat a whole house? How can this be possible. There are a ton of videos on TH-cam showing a clay flower pot and a small candle heating a whole room. Are you telling me all those videos are lying? 😁
      On a more serious note, what power source are you using to run the heater? Also, you said you put it on the hearth, why not use the fireplace for your emergency heat?

    • @goodoz9942
      @goodoz9942 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@rogermccaslin5963 I'm powering a similar way as Sherburn Outdoors. A while back I assembled a small backup power station for our living room. A few large 12V batteries in parallel and a small inverter (700W). All of that sits inside of one of those old style moving trunks so when the lid is closed, it actually looks like a decoration. The heater gets its 12V from there via a fabricated cig lighter plug setup. With 400AH of batt capacity, it'll run for days on a charge. The fireplace is a gas insert (no chimney). So long as the gas is running, the insert "will" heat the whole house...but if gas should ever be absent, the diesel heater is one of a few means of emergency heat. BTW, I have "not" purchased any clay pots or candles 😆

      I had read how people say the exhaust gets real hot and they are not kidding. I am kind of a conservationist/efficiency type person. I think there is quite a bit of heat being wasted. This should be fine for me, saving over using electric for my shop for now. But I am thinking about playing around with saving some of that heat. Just running a longer exhaust pipe safely inside would let some of that heat stay inside. I am wondering if I could find an auto heater core and run the exhaust through it with a small electric fan blowing through the fins to get heated air from it. Most heater cores have a smaller size pipe than this. They wouldn't have much restriction to this units flow even on high, but I am not sure how touchy this is, if a small amount of exhaust restriction would cause a problem. Like I say not a big deal now early in my diesel heater career, but I am thinking.

    at the curent diesel price here in canada , thats close to about 8$ a day (roughly 2$/ liter) for 1 gallon. 30 days to a month and thats about 240$ for 30 days of heating. I think a well insulated building would probably be better to go with a supper efficient heat pump/ mini split with a seer level of about 25 or higher and hspf rating over 12 and that mini split wont cost you more then 100$ a month to heat a 24x24 insulated garage plus you would have AC for the summer with the same unit .

    Great demo. I guess I don't understand what's 5 or 8kW about it. A gallon of diesel has 37kWh of energy. If it were 100% efficient, that would be 37kW for an hour's output. Clearly, it's not 100% based on how hot the exhaust gets, but maybe they are talking about input and not output. But even with input, if it runs for 11 hours on high, the most it can be is about 3kW (37kWh/11hrs) not 5. It's a great heater though. Maybe I'm missing something.

    I was intrigued by the "no ticking" headline, thought maybe someone had come up with a different type of dosing fuel pump. Nope. This one sounds exactly like either of mine until the high fan and exhaust roar drowned out the pump noise. Also in the product description from the provided link all they say about high "altitude" operation (they mean elevation) is don't use it above 9800'. This controller looks identical to one of mine which has an "alpine mode" to slow down the pump frequency at all settings, maybe this one doesn't have that. The blue controllers have an automatic elevation feature that seems to work.
    In automatic (thermostat) mode the unit will not shut down if the ambient gets too warm, it will only go to the lowest setting. This is a good thing because both the shut-down and start-up cycles use a ton of electricity and when your battery dies not only would you wake up cold instead of too warm, eventually you'll have a fouled glo-plug or combustion chamber.
    Adding a fuel filter is always a good idea.

    I’m a truck driver and we use a modified version of this called a bunk heater
    The bunk heater that installed on these trucks use about 1 gallon of fuel in 8 hours
    I don’t think that 1 gallon would run for more than 24 hours unless it was like 50 degrees outside
    Based on what you are wearing, I would say that your outside temp is over 60 degrees maybe warmer
    Fuel consumption will definitely depend on air temperature
    That thing looks awesome
    Since I use them every winter on the truck I can tell you that it is a badass little heater

    My estimate is that you get about 9kWh out of 1liter of diesel. So chugging a us.gal in 11 hrs gives about 3kW of continuous heat. Low setting about 1.1kW for 30hrs. 1.1kW is alot of heat, however a tent will have massive heal leakage. (Hmm... maybe it was more like 9kWh per kg of diesel..? Being less dense than water the output would need a conversion factor of 0.85 or so, number totally grabbed from thin air/flawed memory)

    OK why did you block the hot air intake with that combustion intake muffler? WTF? Common sense should tell you not to block air intake.
    I have the same unit (mine is in the tall metal box) and they'e actually a very good heater, AFTER you make the neccessary improvements that they really need.
    First, change all the fuel lines to be safe. The green soft fuel line is garbage and can swell and leak! You don't want that as close to the exhaust as it is can cause a fire.
    If you wrap the fuel pump with insulation you won't hear the pump anymore.

  • @GordLamb
    @GordLamb 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I'm genuinely baffled by the consistent issue with these all-in-one units. Exhaust poking out the bottom is comically bad design and there's literally no excuse for it. A single 90 degree elbow under the heater itself routing through an internal muffler (all insulated) coming out the back of the unit would make it so much more usable. Also, screw terminals on the back? Come on. Powerpole? XT60?
    I get that this is a particularly ... value-oriented model. But *none* of them that I've seen (at any price) are well designed, and I can't figure out why!

Watts measure how fast electricity is being used, and watt hours measure how much energy has been used. Think of it as watts being like the speedometer on your car, and watt hours being the odometer. The first measures how fast you go, and the second measures speed x time = how far you went.

    I like the idea of a battery in the system so in case of a power failure there is power for the proper cool cycle. So for continuous running there would be two ways to do it. One, a battery with enough juice to do the start and a psu to furnish the constant juice for the run mode. Or a small battery with enough juice to run the cool down, in other words a failsafe, and a large enough psu to do the start and run modes. How many amps at 12v was this needing to run in the high mode after it has fully started? And did you see what it requires during the shutdown cycle?

      I bought a 12v power supply with 30 amps. It starts and runs it just fine. I think a 20 amp would work. My heater came with a 15 amp fuse. I just plugged the power supply into a UPS battery backup, so I didn't have to fool with a battery and charger. It only needs about five minutes to cool down, and I won't leave it running while I'm not around. The UPS should easily keep it running for five minutes.

      @@helpful5539 The only thing I can add is that the power supply I got has a fairly loud fan on it. When the heater is running, it makes no difference. When it isn't, it's kind of annoying. I'm just turning the power supply on and off with the UPS to kill the fan when the heater isn't on. I got a great deal on the PS at Amz. It was less than 20.00. If I was inclined to pay full price for one, I would get one with a power switch on it, or no fan. Other than that, turning it on and off with the UPS works, too. It's just that I have to let the heater cool off, then go back over and kill the power supply.

      I use a car battery with a 7-stage charger plugged in, that keeps it charged.

    Can this run on off-road diesel? We have a lot of off-road diesel around the farmstead....and it is cheaper than on-road diesel. I ask because some of our farm-country friends have reported that some of their diesel stuff runs more poorly on off-road diesel than on-road diesel. I have never personally experienced any difference on my machinery or vehicles...but I hate to scoff at my neighbor's various experiences. Thanks.

      I had never used ORD until last year when I moved to my friend's house in the country, and all those folks run is ORD. They all say it's the exact same stuff, but the colorant is different, and therefore taxed different. So for what it's worth, to my knowledge, it's just a different color. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

    you are lucky my bluetti ac180 wont put out quite enough watts on the dc side to get the glow plug hot enough to start, i have to give it a little boost with a 7ah 12v lead acid battery to get it going then its fine after that just running off the ac180.

    I am in Europe and do not see any availability of the Wippro heaters, but I do see what looks to be an identical product with the Hcalory brand name. Is this one of the same ?

      Most likely, I think most of these use the same components and built in the same factories

    You should say fuel, instead of gas, to avoid confusing your viewers.

    One gallon in 30 hours that’s bad you need to tweak the jet put a smaller jet in to make it spray a mist instead
