ALL-TIME CLASSIC ROCK & ROLL, FROM THE GOLDEN ERA. SPECTOR WAS MAD., BUT HE WAS ALSO A GENIUS. RIP, RONETTES, & THE WRECKING CREW ! --------------MJL, 77 Y/O
The best part of this is when he calls out "take 25". As in you had to know how to play it all the way through, and do it over and over until you got the right combination of correct playing and minute fuck-ups that make these recordings so great. Pro Tools and Logic and punching shit in are all fine and great, but this is where it's at.
I used to think that Spector wanted all those pianos and guitars so that the sound would be "big" somehow, but now I think he mic'd up all those instruments, (something like 19 total), then mixed during the live playing so that only the guys who were on to something good would get heard. There would have to be bleed through on the other mics as well. But it makes sense because you can't tell already genius players how to play their instrument. If you could do that, then Hollywood directors could tell stars how to act, which they can't do.
Actually the back up vocals were done by Phil's "usual suspects" Ellie Greenwich, Sony Bono and Toni Wine among others. There is a vocal backing track here somewhere that reveals it pretty well. He didn't trust the Ronettes to be able to do the job. The Blossoms were used on some recordings but mainly a little later.
@@nonadolmetsch8363 I have heard some live recordings of the Ronettes, I think it was in Toronto, with Estelle & Nedra singing the leads and their cousin Elaine Mays taking Veronica's place and they were outstanding.
@@JohnSmith-cw2wd You are correct. Nedra was lead singer on the Canadian tour. There is a poor quality (but very historic recording) here. th-cam.com/video/JVhKnuMIvGA/w-d-xo.html
Hey y'all, just did a remix of this from sampling the beat and pitch shifting from E to A back and forth. Check it out. Got it from listening to Bjm really
Hal Blaine is drving the bus, so much admiration for all the musicians.
The Wrecking Crew... The best band that never was......
As crazy as he was, no one but Spector could come up with such a timeless sound as this!!
This is the best song ever recorded, i love the Ronettes so much !
Hal Blaine made drummers out of a lot of people.
Hal’s riffs are in such perfect time. The echo in the mix is perfect. This track will forever be the number one rock and roll song of all time.
I get chills by listening to this!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

@@Pimp-Master that is an interesting theory which I don't think I ever heard before.
THE greatest rock song of the Classic Era, hands-down. ------------------WolfSky9, 74 y/o
Great Track! Was So Great to See Hal Play this with Ronnie at Namm Show!
rest in peace - what a life you led.
She was awesome - but it would have been nice to hear her voice here.....
Hal Blaine!
I don't know if it's the same chords or what, but now that the voices are absent I keep hearing don't worry baby by the Beach Boys.
Brian Wilson has been quoted as saying this was his inspiration.

A total wall of sound by every instrument, brilliantly designed and executed.
Sonny Bono was Spectors assistant when Sonny would sing Phil would say go stand way over there! you can’t SING!
Love the distant castañetas on this track!
25 takes and worth every single one..
There were 56 takes...many available on TH-cam
r.i.p.ronnie...
Wow crazy - there is so much more I'm hearing in the backing - the (Baritone?) Sax for example
A bit tenuous but I can hear the later Spector/Dion song "Only you know" in this track.
Great intro .... headphones a must !!!!!
and what a history lesson
Sounds like The Crystals "and then he kissed me" (Phil spector produced) but more manlier. Thanks for sharing that!
The legendary Three Blossoms almost certainly doing back up singing when vocals added for this session! Great job!

@@nonadolmetsch8363 Toni Wine never sang backup on this song....Cher did....Sonny did....Darlene Love and the Blossoms, Leon Russel's wife Mary....

Sublime
I swear I remember listening to this version with the vocals somewhere on TH-cam
Produção de qualidade 👍
nothing is limitless. do you agree, Anton? peace.
Is this the take they used in the song?
Sonny, consider yourself jive
Said Phil to Sonny Bono, castanets.
It was a different band who performed it..I wouldnt have known that because it sounds the same I think
I love that the guy on the right is holding up his fist like he wants to whack Phil - is it Hal Blaine?
merci pour la leçon d'histoire trop courte
Post more stuff, 'Ton!
