      And how the labels didn't pay enough and so many of the guys' marriages fell apart, because they loved music more than their families? So great.

      @@wexplo15 I watched the documentary, the Wrecking Crew made good money. Carole Kaye said at one point she made more than the President. They did work long hours and said they had to be there or else someone else will take their place. One of the guys said his wife did surprise him with a divorce and he had to sell his mansion and yacht.

      Phil Spector controlled every aspect of that recording, produced and also co-wrote the song with Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, the arrangement was by Jack Nitzsche under Phil’s instruction and played by The Wrecking Crew under his direction, also engineered by Larry Levine under his direction so I think it’s safe to say Phil made it a huge hit.

      @J.C. Well said. People really should do some research before making wild assumptions and stating them as fact. It was a collaborative effort yes, but it would never have happened without Phil as the glue that bound the production process together. He was the steering wheel of a brilliant musical endeavor. The comment above calling the horn section ludicrous? What nonsense. And they had the audacity to say that and not even bother to spell ludicrous correctly lol.

    • @AlexDeLarge1
      @AlexDeLarge1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I Can Hear Music was originally a Ronettes song written by Spector and his songwriting team Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich but it wasn't very popular; the Ronettes had become old hat by then and the song only reached 100 on the Billboard charts. The Beach Boys covered it and it was the more popular version, hitting 24.

      @johnnyoranges 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @j.c985

      Ronnie wanted ‘Don’t Worry Baby’ to be the follow-up single to ‘Be My Baby’ but Phil chose ‘Baby, I Love You’ instead which he also wrote with Barry and Greenwich and produced, the song was a moderate success. Spector later produced a version of ‘Baby, I Love You’ for The Ramones 1980 album ‘End of the Century’, which is truly a masterpiece.

    All Spector needed was a tempo setting metronome to start. Lots of waisted time in the studio just for tempo setting. I think Hal Blaine was entertaining Spector’s lack basic, fundamental structure. The studio musicians were in it for spending time to make money. Slow Spector down, stretch the studio time for studio musicians to make money. The goal was not end result to fame. The goal appears to make studio time money.
    Bottom line Spector was being used when Spector thought he was powerful. The brilliance was in the musicians, they knew how to work the system. Hal Blaine was a genius in many ways while making them laugh. Spector was talented in what he did while being short sighted at the same time in some of his overbalanced ways.
