      I really don't know. BMD claimed it was the USB connection of the Intensity Shuttle that limited it (although other manufacturers seem to be able to send 1080p60 through USB3, ha!) So it may work on the desktop model, but I don't know.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend you follow this video (th-cam.com/video/2fggKym43hs/w-d-xo.html) and use the AJA u-tap. You'll need to take the HDMI feed out from the camera through a video interface to get it in to a computer. The USB is only used to transfer already recorded files. Also, for most video interfaces, they won't support 4k, so you'll need to make sure the camera is set to output an HD resolution on it's HDMI, which usually just means setting the camera to an HD format for recording.

  •  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Silly question, but when you plug the HDMI into the camera and the blackmagic device, the camera onboard mic will work when streaming online?

I bought a Sony video camera that only seems to output at 1080p60. Been fighting with the the Shuttle and Blkmgic Express for the last hour. Really frustrating that it won't support 1080p60.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not been able to confirm this, but I've heard reports you can use this device and it will successfully negotiate the HDMI connection between camera's and input devices that don't support 1080p60. Quick question. I’m planning on getting the intensity shuttle for our church. But we are using a pc instead of Mac. I was told that using the usb 3 may not work on pc. So, the guy at black magic design told me to get the shuttle with the thunderbolt output. He said that I need to get an apple thunderbolt to usb type c adapter! Does that sound right to you?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using the adapter aside, the USB version of the shuttle isn't very stable. The thunderbolt version on a Mac is ok. I've never tried using the thunderbolt version on a PC. It costs more but I really recommend the Aja u-tap over the shuttle, so much simpler to get working, and it supports 1080p60.

    Hi. I recently just returned my ux90 because I could not get any feed to show through on BMD media express. How were you able to get anything show? Is there a setting within the camcorder that needs to be changed?

      @BallastMedia  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A couple thoughts... Make sure you aren't on a 4k setting. Set the camera to an HD settings, like 1080. Since you're talking about Media Express, you must have Desktop Video installed (good! you'd be surprised how many people don't install it and wonder why the camera signal isn't showing up!) Check that you have the latest version of Desktop Video installed. The SD card that comes with the Mini Recorder usually has an old version. As long as your sending signal that is supported, it usually doesn't take much to get video to show up in Media Express.

    Hi Ballast,
    I'm looking for a capture device with 4 hdmi inputs. Or i will go for 4 capture devices with single hdmi input. Which one you recommend according to the video delay. If i use 4 devices do i get 4 different video delays? Share your idea please. Thanks

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jude Quinston What are you doing with 4 inputs? No single interface will support that many, its just way too much data. It takes a USB3 connection to support a single uncompressed 1080p60 link. And you would be a monster computer to support 4 individual interfaces. I think you are taking the wrong approach. Get a switcher to connect all your inputs and then connect the output of the switcher to a single interface in to the computer.

      Ballast Media i mean i want to connect 4 canon HF R800 cameras thru hdmi to Vmix software is it impossible to use 4 hdmi capture devices on my pc

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's definitely possible. You might take a look at something like the Decklink 8K, it is supposed to be able to handle 4 HD-SDI inputs simultaneously. go.magik.ly/ml/9u59/ You'll need a computer that can support that data flow though, and I'm not sure how vMix would handle the different sources from the same card. While it's possible, you could just use 4 video interface devices, my concern would be how reliable it would be in the end. In all honesty, you'd end up spending so much on a computer to support it, when you could purchase a switcher for $1000 (amzn.to/2ouCJJu) and a computer to stream for $500 (i7/16GB amzn.to/2GL8ULC) and that is a proven reliable way to do multi-camera. And, using a hardware switcher opens up a lot of other possibilities, like integrating with your projection system, etc.

  • @torgeirhauge
    @torgeirhauge 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    First of all: Thank you for a a great channel! We are building a multi camera set up in my local church in Norway, and have watched many of your videos with great interest! This may be a stupid question, but what is the difference between the BMD Intensity Shuttle and an encoder. As far as I can see, the Intensity Shuttle is cheaper than, for example, the AJA HELO or BMD Web Presenter.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Intensity Shuttle, AJA U-tap and BMD Web Presenter are all video interfaces. They convert a video input in to a "raw" video stream that is passed to your computer. An encoder (like the BMD H.264 Pro Recorder) "encodes" meaning it compressed the video in the hardware of the device, before passing it to your computer as a compressed video stream. Many streaming software, like OBS act as the encoder for streaming - hence the reason they don't work with the H.264 Pro Recorder. Limitation of the Intensity Shuttle is that it doesn't work with all video formats.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The devices like the H.264 Pro Recorder and HELO take some of the processing burden off of your computer. It can also be useful for recording because it makes the file size smaller, which in turn means you don't need as much disk space and as fast drives to record video. As far as streaming goes, most software now acts as the encoder, and with computers getting faster it's becoming less of an issue.

    • @torgeirhauge
      @torgeirhauge 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, thank you for quick and clarifying answer! Would you recommend us to invest in a device like HELO, or is it unnecessary if the goal is streaming to Facebook and post embedding to homepage?

      Yes, but the Intensity Shuttle is very unstable. I'd use the AJA u-tap. Bruce Audie When you go through the "connect" tab instead of the "camera" tab on fb there is the added functionality to embed your stream on your website. Edgard Dominguez I'd be weary of using the Shuttle with your camera unless you can verify what it outputs on the HDMI, it doesn't support 1080p60. I'd use the Mini Recorder on a Mac and the AJA u-tap on a PC (requires usb3)

    I'm using a Logitech 920 can you make a video on using the lower end Cams such as the one I'm using, for Facebook Live?

      That webcam should just show up on your system and you can use it in FB Live from the Camera tab. Is there anything in particular that you'd want to see?

    One more question. The stream key... where will that be located? Is it generated by the software or can it be found on the Facebook side?

      It's found on your page. Publishing Tools -> Create -> Live Video -> Connect tab.

      DeionF In this setup I'd run the sound in through the camera's external audio inputs.

      Sorry, I'll need more information to help you with that. Are you trying to get a capture device to show up, and it's only showing black?
