  • In this video I describe a method for live streaming with multiple cameras without having to use a physical video switcher. OBS does a lot more then just streaming, it can also switch between multiple video interfaces.
    Check out my new recommended multi-camera solution for live streaming! bit.ly/2TvKBeq

      Is there any reason I can't have two video stream sources at once within the same scene? I'm waiting for my Elgato Cam Link to be delivered so I've yet to test this out. But my plan for a new channel I'm starting that is coin related is this. One video source will be a USB Scope that shows up as a USB Camera for extreme closeups of the coins. Second video source will be from my Canon 70 D that will show a wider view of everything so people know I'm not switching out any coins that I found within a roll of coins.

    This was exactly the information I've been searching for! For the church I pastor I'm live streaming worship from my living room as we are under stay-at-home orders. But integrating music from our musician has been difficult. We had to stop and start FB Live streams multiple times so we could each broadcast from our homes. With OBS and this very clear tutorial, I can do a single, uninterrupted stream with recorded music and live presentation.
    I've learned a lot about OBS in the last couple days but this tutorial answers the exact question I've been asking!
    Thank you!

    Hi Steven, I have a question about this setup. I need this exact setup for show-cooking, so 2 camera, and a monitor/projector. i use vmix as software. My question is: Can i connect 2 aja utap in a single usb port, via an appropriate USB HUB (with power supply)? will it support them? because my laptop has only one USB 3.0 port but i need at least 2 cameras for this show. Thanks for your very informative videos. Professional, and easy to understand.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My experience is that video interfaces do not work well through hubs. The limiting factor on how many you can connect (besides bandwidth on the USB3 bus) is also how much power can be supplied to the devices on the bus. These video interfaces take a lot of power, so AJA doesn't recommend doing 2 at the same time - although I've gotten away with it working. Do you have a USB-C port that is available on your laptop?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, check out my latest video about the ATEM Mini. For roughly the same price as an AJA u-tap, you can get a 4 channel video mixer with the video interface built in. And it only takes one USB to operate. amzn.to/2SwcSjP

    I’m going to be helping a friend set up 1 or maybe 2 cameras with a digital whiteboard for his presentation videos in a small office. Do you have to use a video interface? I know you don’t for a webcam. For a camera like you have and I also have one similar, does it require a video interface? Great video!

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most video cameras only use the USB connection to transfer already recorded files, they don't send live video out. (some new very recent cameras are starting to add this feature, but it's not very widely done yet.) So, yes you need some kind of interface to bring video in to the computer.

    • @MattMendians
      @MattMendians ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BallastMedia Yeah I pretty much figured that. I just searched and you can get video capture cards for around $15.00 to $30.00. I don’t think you have to spend hundreds of dollars for one.

    Another great video. You’ve been very helpful in my setup process. I already had a cam link 4K and have everything running smoothly with one camera. Now of course I want to add a second camera. I have a line on a cheap second cam link. Obviously I’d like to have a nice single unit, but it’s not in the budget right now. How disappointed am I going to be if I try to run 2 camlinks at once? I have a pretty beefy gaming computer that can handle a heavy load. However, I think it’s silly for me to compromise quality if this is not really a viable option.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The issue is the amount of power the USB Controller has to supply to the Camlink. Elgato says to only use one Camlink per USB Controller you have in your computer. If you are using a desktop computer, just install another USB Host Controller and connect the 2nd Camlink to that. Or, a card like this claims to be able to power 2A/per USB connection. amzn.to/2t0YuFY

    I'm part of a public access TV station. My dream someday is to experiment live-streaming from a small-size helicopter (Rotorway A600 or Schweizer S300). WHY? To see how BIG capabilities can come from a small size chopper. Cost-effective but STRONG abilities to go LIVE. Yes, TV news helicopters can cost a commercial station an arm & a leg, especially the standard Bell JetRanger and Eurocopter AS350. But I wanna experiment with your setup and live stream from a small size chopper. For the outside, it would have PTZOptics robotic camera with a weatherproof outdoor enclosure. That setup you're showing is perfect for minimal space in the cockpit.

      Check out this video on using NDI for a great way to do that. Specially if your are using ProP7 the ndi part on that end is even easier now! th-cam.com/video/prYWKrxQ3EM/w-d-xo.html

    thank you for this! Is there a way for OBS to automatically switch between different scenes after a pre-determined time?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there is a plugin called Advanced Scene Switcher" that will do that.

    Thank you for the help you provide with your videos. One question, I have a Helo stream device and I’m trying to use it with obs but it’s not recognized by it. How can I make it work or is it not compatible with obs software. Please let me know and thanks again for all your help.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Helo is an encoder, so it's going straight to facebook or youtube, it doesn't need a computer/OBS to work. It's not a video interface (to connect to a computer) it's a standalone encoder, so it doesn't need a computer to operate.

    Wow, you have realy rich and quality content! I am a beginner and wondering what happens if you have 4 different video signals feed to a switcher, then the output goes into a computer trough the AJA U-Tap. Can you use that signal to mix the 4 cameras i.e. do custom pip in obs?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would need to do the pip in your video switcher since it has access to all the unique video feeds. In the setup you described, OBS would only be receiving the final content from one video source, the output of your switcher.

    • @gezakammer9486
      @gezakammer9486 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Steven! So it seems the only way on a budget is to install a capture card to a pc (like the bm decklink duo 2) then do the switching and mixing in OBS. Maybe adding an elgato streamdeck to still have phisical switches for lower thirds and camera switches.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gezakammer9486 that would be a good solution. Do some googling on the card you choose and compatibility with OBS. Not all multi input cards will work, it depends how the driver was written. I do think the blackmagic cards work though, but haven't done this myself.

    is it necessary to have the Aja u tap or similar device? Could you just run two hdmi signals directly into the computer?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The HDMI ports on your laptop are outputs, HDMI is a one way street, you need inputs, that's what devices like the u-tap are.

    Does it work with Mac?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the USB 3 on macs is a little funky because they use the small USB-C connector, so you may end up needing some sort of dongle to adapt it to a regular size USB3 connector. (On a side note, for some reason my experience has been that OBS is a little more stable on a PC, go figure.)

    Thank you so much for you videos. My question is, our Pastor is very enthusiastic and gets quite loud at times is there a way to limit the level of audio coming out of the mixer?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greg Shuck perfect use for a compressor. Insert a compressor on his channel with a fairly low ratio (2.5:1) and set the threshold so that it's almost always reducing volume. Then put another compressor on the mixer output at a high ratio (8:1) and set the threshold so that only the highest peaks are getting reduced.

    Hello, I would like to see what I record with my Panasonic AG-DVX200 camera on the laptop (HDMI) to avoid purchasing a video monitor. What is your advice?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could just get a cheap HDMI interface like the Elgato HD60s. amzn.to/37d9q27
