Being in your mid twenties still establishing a base in life while trying to build a three deck layout with 150 foot of mainline excluding the modular helix track and all other sidings yards and industry tracks, as well as converting to a new system and to steam era, as well as very little skill in woodwork it’s going to take me so long to get it completed, so seeing your super fast progress is nice and can’t wait to see this behemoth layout in action!
I work for UP, and a consist with 3 or 4 locos will only have 2-3 engines powered up to save on fuel and emissions. So having a loco on your consist with no sound would be prototypical. Your layout’s coming along quite nicely!
Thanks for the input. I just tried putting the non-sound loco in the middle of two sound locos. You cannot tell at all that the middle one is non-sound.
500 rolling stock?! OMG!! I knew you were going to have a lot when you mentioned 35-45 car trains. WOW!! Get yourself a truck spreader and put some Kadee graphite in the wheel ends where they meet the trucks. That should help with the smoothness of it. Speaking of Kadee, I highly recommend upgrading your couplers to Kadee magne-matic couplers.
I've been ordering from Lombard's since you told us about them. I Love shopping there. I picked up 8 Centerbeam flat cars and a well car from there so far. And also a code 83 double crossover. I was surprised to get a bag, gummy candi and a track /wheel gauge from them.
Nice haul. The IM t-4 gevos are great . One detail piece I'd like to see Athearn is the PTC cabinet behind the AC unit . This should be on all rebuilt Ns. Gp38n ,sd40n gp40n. Also keep a lookout for the Atlas center partition car due to be released shortly. I'm sure Andrew can help you with those. Enjoying watching your layout come together.
oh wow im starting to miss Lombard hobbies....just moved to Florida 2 weeks ago, i cant wait to go back to get the rest of my stuff...gonna get some Bowser canadian SD40-2s to bring back...strip the paint and redetail, paint and decal for ALL!
@@EvanstonSub awesome...still got get my power tools and such...i left around 7,000.00 in tools and my 2nd astro...BUT the next time i need SD40-2s i will do a order...would love to see jeff.
I caught your comment that you plan to eventually have about 500 cars in your roster. I'm curious to know what method you used to develop your plan for a freight car roster: car types, quantities, road names, etc. and also how you decided upon a locomotive roster. How much is planning and how much is opportunistic?
Can’t believe Athearn didn’t add the red stripe on the engineer side of your 1923. Also they said they were suppose to have rear ditchlights and these dont appear to. Way to go athearn!
RCO unites can be used in normal service. Heck, they can actually be used in RCO service anywhere. And there are places where crews switch out industries as an RCO job. Usually these are close to a yard though, since when in RCO mode they cannot go above 10 Mph. One mistake I see people do with model RCO units is use the beacons when running on the main line at track speed, which is not something that happens since the beacons only come on when in RCO mode. Only bothers me since I've actually run RCO before haha. Something else to note: If you have JMRI to use for programming, you can program the auto bell on the RCO units to come on whenever you start movement for like 4 seconds exactly like the real ones. Its super easy as well. Its one function box checked and then a slider for how long you want the bell to be on for before it auto shuts off. Cheers and happy holidays!
What a great haul, Daryl. Now go over exactly what you said or did that got your wife to go into the car, even if you have to review the video from the store, and make a video for all of us to follow. Lol. Those center beams and loads look great and I don’t think you can have too many locos…
Those a;; lppk nice. UP does get a lot of use from their Tier 4 GEVOs. Interestingly, UP has used their Teir 4 GEVOs on coal trains, while BNSF does not. BNSF uses their Tier 4 GEVOs like updated Dash 9s - oil, freight, grain, and even TOFC but not coal. UP seems to operate theirs everywhere regardless of the train type. Those lumber cars look good. Walthers Mainline is supposed to sacrifice some details to keep the price down and they usually succeed. I have found most Mainline cars to be good basic cars that are well suited to operations and they can be detailed or weathered to make them fit in with some nicer cars. By the way, I also prefer Tsunami 2 for my "standard" decoder, but I also run ESI (usually becaise of a nice deal on a loco that is already equipped with them). My few dealings with Lombard have been very good. When we get to do more travelling I hope to get to their shop.

Thans. Good luck on your layout.
some really cool stuff. I always like getting to the brick and mortar stores, candy store for modelers,, lol

UP has the SD40N here in Roseville Davis Yard here in California. I see them almost everyday. And you can go in and brighten the ditch lights in JMRI.
I'll have to double check, but I think the level is already set at the highest setting. I haven't checked the other 3 that I have.
Nice collection of locomotive power.
Thanks.
Nice haul! Looking forward to your next video!
Coming soon!

Yep. 12 staging tracks x 40 cars each = 480 cars. Not to mention the Evanston Yard and industries.

The remote control version of the SD40N can be used anywhere on the system. The remote control just increases the flexibility of the loco.
Thanks!
Very nice! Love the center beams
Me too!

I can easily add the lightning stripe. Rear ditch lights would be more of a challenge. Are you sure about those? I'll have to check out some pics.
@@EvanstonSub Yeah check their PDF. I spoke to one of then, they said it was a mistake in the factory.

Good to know about JMRI. I'm going to look into getting it.
Thanks for the info. Definitely looking forward to using the SD40Ns during ops sessions.
Wow those cars are great 🚂🚃🚋🚋. Nice train as well very kool

I think she knew the damage to the bank account was going to be severe and decided ignorance was bliss.
Great idea. She actually doesn't mind too much since she figures that gives her leeway to buy more clothes.

14:02 its missing the red part of the lighting bolt lol, at least its just that side
Yep, I'll need to get that decal.
Very nice!!
Thanks!
Your missing the red lighting stripe on the engineer side of sd40n 1923
Yes, I've read about the missing lighting stripe. Will have to get some decals before I weather it.
sd40-2 is my fav loco
Yep, glad to have a few on the layout.
I think she had a good idea how much it would be hence why she excused herself lol
Very likely.
Is the cow locomotive dc? I’ve never seen it used and I’m shocked if it’s dc
What do you mean by cow locomotive.
Get a truck tuner from Mico Mark and your cars will roll a lot better
Interesting. I'll have to check that out.
What is that gray roadbed???
That’s what I’m wondering
It's Flexxbed by Hobby Innovations.
@@EvanstonSub thank you. Looks great!!!
